Chapter 771 The Abandoned Baby

Just as Patricia was about to clap back, Charles cut in, "I don't know if Lassie had plastic surgery, but you definitely did! Look at your chin—sharp enough to pierce your fake chest!"

Fannie, equally annoyed, added, "How can you be so mean? Violet's adorable, and you call her ugly? You're the one who looks like an old witch! Lassie is beautiful and kind-hearted. How did she end up with a sister like you?"

Harper's face twisted in anger, "Who do you think you are, insulting me?"

Fannie scoffed, "Insult? I'm just stating facts."

Harper was about to explode, "You little monster, looking for a beating?"

Charles stared her down, "Go ahead. Touch me, and I'll make sure you and the entire Bennett family go bankrupt."

Patricia couldn't help but applaud him.

She thought, 'Who knew Charles could be so protective of Violet? Impressive!'

Harper sneered, "You? Who do you think you are?"

Charles stayed calm, "I'm nobody special. Just Martin's son and the 'Computer genius'. Look me up if you don't know. Your Bennett family makes electronics, right? One move from me, and you're done."

Harper, furious, raised her hand to hit him, but Logan grabbed her wrist, "Enough! We're leaving!"

Harper protested, "Dad, he bullied me, and you're not doing anything?"

Logan glared at her, then looked at Martin, bowing, "Mr. Langley, I'm sorry. Harper's immature. I'll punish her at home. Please don't take offense."

Their company relied on the Langley Group's chips. Offending Martin would ruin them.

Though Harper was still fuming, Logan dragged her away.

"Sorry, sorry, Harper's immature. We'll punish her at home!" Lily bowed and followed.

Lassie stayed silent, just shedding tears.

Since Logan and Lily took Harper back, Lassie felt completely isolated.

What hurt more than their favoritism was their support for Harper's attempts to seduce Carter.

Carter was her husband, yet they pushed Harper and Carter together. They didn't even spare Violet.

She had lost all hope for this family, for Logan and Lily. She no longer expected any love from them.

Charles looked at Violet, feeling sorry for her. With such relatives, she'd surely be bullied.

Charles said, "Why don't we take Violet home and raise her?"

Charles, feeling upset, said, "I think Carter and Lassie can't protect her! She's so young! Look at the Bennett family's attitude. She'll definitely be bullied."

Carter's eyes darkened as he stared at Violet, clenching his teeth.

Carter said, "No, I won't let anyone bully my wife and child!"

Charles, annoyed, retorted, "But you just did nothing to protect her from their bully."

Carter lowered his head in shame, admitting, "It's my fault! It won't happen again!"

Despite his apology, Charles remained unconvinced. The thought of Violet being mistreated pained him.

Patricia, noticing his concern, twisted his ear and gritted her teeth, "Carter is her biological father. What kind of father doesn't take care of his child? Worry about yourself first!"

Charles thought Patricia was going to scold him for snapping at Harper.

But Patricia surprised him, "You did great! I loved it! Harper's awful. Just seeing her makes me want to hit her."

Charles rolled his eyes, "You're the first mom I've seen who teaches her kid to insult people. You're really something."

Patricia took it as a compliment, raising her chin proudly, "Of course! I'm fair. What's right is right. If the retort is good, it's good!"

Charles couldn't help but admire her. She knew when to discipline and when to let loose.

"Alright, let's head back," Patricia sighed, walking to Lassie's bedside, "While you're in the hospital, I'll bring Charles to visit you every day. If Harper bullies you again, Charles will stand up for you."

Lassie smiled weakly, tears welling up, "Thank you!"

She and Patricia were just acquaintances, yet Patricia stood up for her. Meanwhile, her parents, Logan and Lily, who raised her for twenty years, kept hurting her.

Patricia wiped her tears, "You just gave birth! Don't cry, or your eyes will get damaged!"

Lassie sniffled and nodded.

Charles reluctantly handed Violet back to Carter. While the adults argued, Violet had fallen asleep. As Charles handed her over, she seemed to sense the change and pouted, about to cry.

Charles gently patted her back, "Good girl, I'll see you tomorrow. Be good!"

Violet seemed to understand and didn't cry.

Patricia gave some postpartum care tips before leaving with Martin, Charles, and Fannie.

Carter placed Violet back in the cradle, then sat by Lassie's bedside, holding her hand, "Lassie, I'm sorry! I let you suffer!"

Feeling the warmth from Carter's hand, Lassie's eyes reddened again, but she smiled and shook her head, "I'm not suffering! I know you didn't argue with them out of respect for me! They took advantage of it!"

The more she said, the more Carter felt he hadn't taken good care of her. He tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and vowed, "It won't happen again! If they harm you or the baby again, I won't hold back! I won't let you suffer anymore."

Lassie smiled happily, "I know you'll protect me and our daughter! I've always believed that!"

Carter stood up and gently kissed her forehead, "Rest well! I'll stay by your side."

Lassie felt warm inside and soon fell asleep with a smile.

Looking at the exhausted Lassie, Carter felt a mix of heartache and guilt.

They had married for business reasons, but after she risked her life to find him in Country M and saved him, he truly fell in love with her.

From now on, he would protect her and never let anyone bully her again.

In the following days, Patricia brought Charles to visit Lassie and Violet every day.

Charles only smiled when he saw Violet.

Patricia, having stood up for Lassie, formed a deep friendship with her, sharing parenting tips.

Life was quite pleasant.

Soon, it was time for Lassie to be discharged from the hospital.

Carter wrapped her up in layers, fearing she might catch a cold.

Meanwhile, a woman placed a basin at the gate of Rose Garden Manor, the Moore family residence. She looked at the shivering child in the cold wind, narrowed her eyes viciously, and walked away without looking back.
