Chapter 782 The Argument

Violet cheerfully called out, "Austin, why are you here so early?"

Austin stared at her, lost in thought.

Unaware, Violet smiled, "Where are Carter and Lassie? I didn't see them at the gate."

After a moment, Austin finally spoke, "Carter called you last night. Why didn't you answer?"

Violet fiddled with her uniform buttons, "He just wanted to ask about dinner. Charles didn't bully me; he loves me! So I didn't answer."

Austin's brow furrowed slightly, "They care about you too, but all you see is Charles."

Violet found Austin's behavior odd today.

She tilted her head, "Austin, what's wrong? Did something happen? Why are you in a bad mood?"

Austin used to dote on her, always listening to her. But today, he seemed different, though she couldn't figure out why.

Austin said, "Do you know how old you are? You're three, and Charles is ten! You should keep your distance."

Violet's face fell, "I don't want to keep my distance from Charles! I want to be with him every day."

Austin said sternly, "Boys and girls should keep a basic distance! You're young and don't get it, but Charles should know better!"

Violet felt more uncomfortable. Covering her ears, she exclaimed, "I don't want to hear it! You're mean, I don't like you anymore!"

Austin's face tightened, showing emotion for the first time. He said nothing, stood up, and moved to another seat.

When Violet lowered her hands and heard no sound, the seat beside her was empty. She turned to find Austin, pouting and looking at him with hurt.

But Austin ignored her, staring at the blackboard.

Violet's good mood vanished. She slumped her shoulders, feeling wronged, 'Why was Austin so angry? Why did he want me to keep distance from Charles?'

Violet thought Austin would calm down soon, and she could coax him. But the whole day passed, and Austin didn't speak to her, didn't even acknowledge her.

Violet's young heart was hurt. In the end, she sat next to Austin, tugging at his arm, "Austin, I'm sorry, I know I was wrong. Please don't be mad, okay?"

Austin's dark eyes stared at her, "What did you do wrong?"

Violet pouted, "I shouldn't have lost my temper. I'm sorry!"

Austin raised eyebrows, "Is that all?"

Violet blinked innocently, "What else? Weren't you mad at me for losing my temper?"

Austin felt at a loss for words. He leaned back, muttering, "I shouldn't have had any expectations of you!"

Though he was talking to himself, Violet still heard him. She asked, "Why?"

Austin was speechless. Seeing him not speak, Violet asked, "Are you not mad at me anymore?"

Austin said in a deep voice, "If you don't want me to be mad, you have to promise to keep your distance from Charles. I don't like you two always being together."

"Why?" Violet's emotions flared up again.

Austin frowned, "I already told you! You're both growing up and should keep some distance."

Little Austin didn't understand possessiveness. He just felt unhappy seeing Violet clung to Charles and wanted her to himself.

Violet exclaimed, "No! When I grow up, I want to marry Charles. I don't want to keep my distance from him!"

Austin's face instantly turned icy. He turned away, ignoring Violet.

Seeing him ignore her, Violet got angry and didn't want to coax him anymore. She returned to her seat.

The whole day passed without them speaking.

In the afternoon, when school ended, Charles came to pick her up and saw her pouting at the classroom door.

Austin came out with his backpack, ignoring Violet, who turned her head away. He walked past her without a glance.

Smart as Charles was, he immediately understood, "Did you two have a fight?"

Seeing that Austin hadn't gone far, Violet loudly said, "I hate him, I will never talk to him again."

Austin's small body stiffened, then he walked away without looking back.

At the school gate, Violet saw Carter and Lassie, started crying, and ran to hug Carter's leg, complaining.

"Daddy, Mommy, Austin bullied me. He didn't talk to me all day!"

Carter didn't believe her and lightly flicked her forehead.

"You're lying! If you said someone else bullied you, maybe, but Austin? No way! He dotes on you. I bet you bullied him instead."

In the Moore family, Austin's love for Violet was as strong as their parents'. Though he didn't smile much or talk a lot, he loved Violet deeply and would do anything for her.

Now Violet was saying he bullied her. Carter wouldn't believe it.

Violet didn't expect Carter not to believe her. She turned, took Charles's hand, and started to leave.

"I hate you, I hate Austin, I will never talk to you again. From now on, I will live at Martin's house and never come back."

Carter was puzzled.

Austin's small fists clenched tightly as he watched Violet's carefree back, his calm eyes hiding a storm of emotions.

Charles knew Violet and Austin were having a conflict. As Violet dragged him towards the car, he assured Carter he'd take good care of her.

Before Carter could thank him, Charles was already pulled into the car by Violet.

The SUV sped away.

Carter stood there, stunned. After a while, he came to his senses and almost jumped in anger.

Carter thought, 'Had we really spoiled Violet too much? Did she not know who the elders in the family were?'

Austin watched the Langley family's car disappear, his thin lips pressed into a tight line. He lowered his eyes, hiding his true emotions, and silently got into the Moore family's car.
