Chapter 84 Patricia's Disappearance.
Roger looked at the bottle of medicine without reaching out to take it.
"What is this?" he asked.
Debbie retorted, "What do you think it is?"
Immediately, Roger grew agitated.
"He's just a four-and-a-half-year-old child. Are you really so malicious to poison him? We agreed before that sending them out of Ivara City would be enough!"
Debbie stared at him as if he were an idiot.
"This is a sleeping pill. One pill will make him sleep for a whole day! Give him one daily to prevent him from influencing all of you." Debbie said in a seething voice.
Relieved to hear that it was a sleeping pill, Roger let out a breath and took the bottle from her hand.
Debbie urged with concern, "Remember, one pill every day until you send them out of Ivara City."
After leaving the earthen house, Debbie instructed Sean, "You can take action against Patricia now! She's easy to deal with because she's constantly searching for Charles everywhere."
Since the incident at the detention center, Martin had been assigning people to protect Patricia, making it difficult for them to make a move on her.
Helpless against this, they had to target Charles first. When Patricia and Martin would relax their guard, they would snatch Patricia.
Sure enough, Charles disappeared, and Patricia went crazy, driving around every day searching for him.
Now was the perfect opportunity for Debbie to strike.
"Okay!" Sean received his orders and directly turned to leave.
...
Patricia drove aimlessly around Ivara City, searching for Charles's figure.
Suddenly, her phone rang in her pocket. The caller ID showed an unfamiliar number.
Thinking it was Charles calling, she immediately stopped the car by the roadside and answered, "Hello, is that you, Charles?"
Indeed, Charles's voice came from the other end. "Mommy, it's me!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Patricia immediately felt relieved. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she couldn't stop crying as she sobbed, "Where are you? I'll come find you right away."
"Mommy, I escaped from the human traffickers using a plan. I'm hiding in an abandoned warehouse in the eastern outskirts of the city. I dare not go out. Please come and get me quickly." Charles said.
Without a doubt, Patricia believed him and nodded frantically. "Okay, you wait for me there. I'll come right away!"
Charles said, "I'll send you the location, follow it to come." There was a hint of excitement in his voice.
Overwhelmed with joy, Patricia didn't notice anything unusual about his tone.
After hanging up the phone, she followed the location he sent and found the abandoned warehouse in the eastern outskirts of the city.
To avoid being noticed by the traffickers, Patricia deliberately parked her car in a nearby grove and walked alone to the warehouse.
Pushing open the warehouse door, a musty and rotten smell hit her nose.
The smell wafted over.
Patricia closed the warehouse door cautiously, covering her nose, searching for Charles while softly calling out his name, "Charles, Charles, it's Mommy. I've come to pick you up. Where are you? Charles..."
Suddenly, a faint sound came from ahead.
Thinking it was Charles, Patricia immediately ran over excitedly.
A figure emerged from the abandoned pile of cardboard boxes, sunlight shining through the glass windows, casting a shadow upon him, revealing his features.
Patricia realized something was wrong and abruptly stopped in her tracks, turning to run towards the door.
The figure quickly caught up, covering her mouth and nose with his hand.
"Mmm... mmm..." Patricia struggled desperately, accidentally dropping her phone and breaking it upon hitting the ground.
The pungent scent of chloroform filled her nostrils.
After struggling for a while, she couldn't resist the darkness' invasion any longer and fell into unconsciousness.
...
That Night, at the Hospital.
Randy lay silently on the bed, lost in thought, his mind wandering.
Alan reported the progress to Martin.
"Through the surveillance network, we found that the car that took Charles was last seen on Rainbow Road in the eastern part of the city. Since then, we haven't been able to find any further information. The license plate was also fake."
Martin responded absentmindedly, uninterestedly saying, "Hmm."
"Keep searching. If there's any progress, inform Patricia directly. No need to specifically come and tell me! I'm not interested in that bastard, whether he's dead or alive doesn't concern me."
If it wasn't for Patricia, he wouldn't have bothered with this trivial matter at all. Deep down, he even evilly wished that Charles would never come back.
Seeing his uncaring expression, Alan hesitated to reveal the truth, but ultimately held back.
Martin reminded him, "Don't waste your time and energy on such insignificant matters. Leave it to..."
Alan responded before Martin could complete his sentence, "Alright!"
Martin impatiently waved his hand, saying, "Okay, you can go!"
As Alan turned to leave, Martin remembered something and called to him, "Wait."
Alan thought he changed his mind and happily turned around, but heard Martin say, "He's just a bastard, not qualified to be on equal footing with Randy."
Finding it hard to bear Martin's constant use of the word "bastard," Alan kindly reminded him, "His name is Charles. If Madam keeps hearing you call him a bastard, she'll be heartbroken."
After speaking, without waiting for Martin's reaction, Alan turned and left.
"..." Martin hadn't expected Alan to go against him for Patricia's sake.
Lost in thought Martin saw Alan’s sudden return, as he handed Martin his phone that was still on a call. "It's Jade's call."
Martin furrowed his brows, a look of aversion on his face.
Alan urged, "Miss Williams says she has an urgent matter to discuss with you, and it's related to Madam."
Upon hearing it was related to Patricia, Martin quickly took the phone, his expression changing.
Martin quickly put the phone to his ear and asked anxiously, "What happened to Patricia?"
Jade's concerned voice came from the other end of the line, "Do you know where Patricia went? I can't find her."
Martin squinted his eyes, "What about her phone?"
"She turned off her phone! Ever since Charles was kidnapped by human traffickers, she's been hopeful that he might escape and ask her for help. So, she never dared to turn off her phone. But now, I haven't been able to contact her for two whole hours! I'm afraid something has happened to her."
Martin understood and said, "Go to the places she usually goes to, I'll have Alan send people to search as well."
"Okay!" Jade acknowledged.
After the call ended, Alan immediately instructed his men to find Patricia.
Soon, there was news.
"I checked Madame's call records just now and found that she received a call from an unknown number at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The call lasted for 1 minute and 5 seconds. Since receiving that call, Madame has gone missing.”
Alan continued to report. “I sent someone to the phone company, and it turned out to be an unregistered number with no identity verification."
After finishing his report, Alan handed over a document.
"The road surveillance shows that the last place Madame was seen was Rainbow Road in the east of the city. It's exactly the same place where the human traffickers who kidnapped Charles were last seen. Initially, I assumed that it should be the same group of people."
He paused for a moment and continued,
"I suspect their target is not child trafficking. Perhaps there's a bigger conspiracy! Maybe their target has always been Madame and Charles. The reason they kidnapped Charles first is definitely to distract our attention."
Upon hearing this, a hint of a bloodlust flashed in Martin's handsome eyebrows and his eyes.
"Check if there are any abandoned factories, warehouses, or temples to the east of Rainbow Road! They can't have gone far with an adult and a child, and they wouldn't dare to stay in a hotel."
"I understand. I'll immediately send people to search," Alan realized, then quickly left.
