Chapter 862 Charles Goes on a Blind Date

In the evening, the doorknob to Charles's room got a sneaky twist, and the door creaked open.

Patricia threw a quick "shh" at Fannie behind her, then tiptoed in, with Fannie right on her heels.

Maria, hanging outside the door, looked kinda confused.

Patricia crept up to Charles's bed and craned her neck to peek.

Seeing Charles was out cold, she waved frantically for Fannie to come over.

They started hunting for Charles's phone from different angles.

They rummaged through the nightstand, the drawer, the sofa, the coffee table—everywhere—but came up empty.

Finally, they both zeroed in on the pillow under Charles's head.

Patricia mouthed for Fannie to grab it.

Fannie shook her head like crazy, signaling for Patricia to do it.

Patricia wasn't having it either and kept shaking her head, telling Fannie to go for it.

Fannie waved her hands, saying she didn't dare.

Snatching something from under the pillow might wake Charles up, and then they'd be toast.

She wasn't about to mess with him.

When he was in a good mood, maybe she'd risk it.

But now, with him in a bad mood, poking the bear was a no-go! She wasn't that dumb!

Patricia was fuming at Fannie's chicken-heartedness. Just as she was debating whether to do it herself, the phone suddenly appeared in front of them.

They were squatting face to face.

The phone just popped up between them.

Seeing the phone, they both lit up. But before they could celebrate, they realized something and looked up in horror.

In the dim room, moonlight streamed through the window, casting a glow on Charles.

His face was in the shadows, his eyes gleaming in the light.

He slowly curled his lips into a smile.

But under the moonlight, it looked creepy as hell, like a demon from the underworld. Patricia and Fannie were so freaked out they fell to the ground, clutching each other.

"So scary!" Fannie shrieked.

Maria, hearing the ruckus outside, knew something was up and bolted.

Don't say Maria didn't help; she always thought this plan was a bad idea. Only Fannie would be dumb enough to get roped in by Patricia to swipe Charles's phone, hoping to dig up his secrets.

Good thing Maria didn't go in with them earlier. Otherwise, she'd be in the same mess.

The room light flicked on, flooding the place with brightness.

Charles sat by the bed, holding the phone, "Is this what you were looking for?"

Patricia, realizing how awkward this was, shoved Fannie away and got up with a sheepish grin, "Charles, it's a misunderstanding. All a big misunderstanding! It's all Fannie's fault; she insisted on stealing your phone, and I couldn't stop her. I was just scared she'd wake you up, so I followed to pull her back."

Fannie was stunned.

Today, she finally saw her mom's true colors.

In the face of danger, she could throw her under the bus without a second thought.

Was she really Patricia's daughter?

Patricia plopped down next to Charles with a smile, patting his thigh, "Fannie is just worried about you. She thinks you have something on your mind!"

Fannie also got up from the floor. Between Charles and Patricia, she ultimately chose to piss off her brother.

Pissing off Charles wouldn't be fatal. But if she pissed off Patricia, her dad would be furious. If her dad got mad, she'd be in deep trouble.

She really didn't get why they had kids.

The dad who loved, adored, and spoiled her as a kid had changed! Now, his heart and eyes were only for his wife.

Fannie piped up, "Charles, I'm worried about you too! Don't forget, we're triplets, totally in sync! I can tell something's bugging you."

Charles's lips curled into a smile.

He was smiling, but his eyes were ice-cold.

Charles sneered, "Oh yeah? Then use that intuition to guess what I'm thinking right now. Am I gonna break your hand first or your leg?"

Fannie shivered in fright.

Patricia chimed in, "Hand! If her leg's busted, she can't walk and needs someone to take care of her! Break her left hand; it won't mess with eating and bathing."

Fannie was floored.

She seriously doubted if she was really her mom's kid.

Patricia switched gears, linking her arm with Charles's, and said, "But we really are worried about you! You've always told me everything since you were little! This time, you didn't say anything, and it makes me sad!"

Charles knew they were concerned.

It's just that he'd been in a bad, chaotic mood these past few days. So his face was all gloomy, scaring them.

Charles sighed deeply and said slowly, "It's all over!"

Patricia was puzzled.

Fannie was puzzled too.

Sensing a chance to get the scoop, Patricia immediately asked, "When did you start dating, and how did it end? If you like her, you should hold on to her, or you'll regret it later."

Charles said, "We're not right for each other and can't be together! I know what you wanna ask! I came back to clear my head! Once I feel better, I'll go back."

Patricia didn't get it, "Why can't you be together? If you like her, be with her. Why all the drama?"

Charles replied, "She's getting married!"

One sentence left Patricia and Fannie speechless for a long time.

After a while, Patricia finally spoke, "In that case, it's definitely not cool to pursue her! Even though I want you to get hitched soon, being a homewrecker is a no-go. Because of Debbie and Hunter, you almost died, and our family almost fell apart! The thing I hate most is homewreckers. You must never be one. You're so handsome, so smart, so awesome; if you go after someone, they'll definitely break up! So coming back was the right move."

Fannie rolled her eyes.

She'd never seen a mom who, even while lecturing, didn't forget to praise her son.

Charles said, "Right! So, let's drop it! Let me have some peace and think it through. Once I figure it out, I'll be fine!"

Patricia patted his shoulder, "I believe in you; you got this! I won't bug you anymore; I'll head back to my room."

After saying that, she ignored Fannie and turned to leave.

Fannie laughed in frustration and patted Charles's shoulder, "Charles, cheer up! I have tons of friends who are super pretty. Since you're back, I'll pack your schedule."

She planned to introduce a new girl to Charles every day. She didn't believe he couldn't find someone he liked.

Charles thought she meant a busy schedule of outings and didn't think much of it, nodding, "Okay! You set it up!"

A packed schedule might leave no time to think about Hannah.

Patricia was waiting outside the door. Seeing Fannie come out, she immediately grabbed her, "Fannie, I had no choice just now. Better one of us gets in trouble than both. Don't be mad."

Fannie gave her a cold look, "I'm not mad."

Before Patricia could be relieved, Fannie added, "It's really hard not to be mad!"

Then she walked away.

Patricia was stunned.

It's over!

For the first time, Fannie worked so fast that she had already set up a blind date for Charles by the next day.
