Chapter 813: Fiancé

Hannah's head was spinning with the image of Charles messing up her hair just now.

She started to really dig that heart-thumping feeling.

Charles stood behind her, all annoyed.

How the heck did he mix her up with Violet just now?

They were totally different people.

But he always saw them as one.

The PR department wasn't far from the top floor, so they didn't have to deal with the awkwardness for long before the elevator doors opened.

Wyatt strolled over with a blue folder.

"Charles, here's the stuff from R&D for you to check out. Give it a look."

Charles grabbed the folder and, while heading to his office, said, "She's gonna fill in for Elizabeth as my assistant for now. Tell her what she needs to do. If she doesn't get something, show her yourself."

"Assistant?" Wyatt looked at Hannah, totally surprised.

Charles had just said he didn't need an assistant while Elizabeth was on maternity leave and would handle everything himself until she got back.

He said this just last night. And now, this morning, he brought in an assistant. And one from the journalism field, no less.

Hannah gave Wyatt an awkward smile and said, "I'll definitely work hard and not let you down."

Honestly, she didn't want to be an assistant.

She wanted to do something in her field.

But Gordon and the others were just too much.

No matter what, she had to stay and do her job well, to show Gordon and those who doubted her what she was made of.

Wyatt put away his doubts and calmly said, "Actually, your job's pretty simple. See that desk outside Charles's office? That's your spot. There's an internal phone on it. When calls come in, you answer them first and filter out the junk for Charles. When Charles is in a meeting, you take notes..."

Wyatt carefully explained everything.

Hannah listened closely, afraid she'd miss something, and took out a notebook and pen from her bag to jot down notes.

Every time Wyatt mentioned a task, she nodded to show she got it.

Hannah was super smart. She quickly remembered everything Wyatt taught her. In less than half a day, she could handle things on her own.

After teaching Hannah, Wyatt went back to the CEO's office to work with Charles.

Seeing him come in, Charles didn't even look up and asked, "How's she doing?"

Wyatt showed some admiration, "She's pretty good, really smart, and hardworking! I think she can handle it."

Charles couldn't help but smile.

Even though it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to have Hannah temporarily replace Elizabeth as his secretary.

It seemed like a good call now.

After asking about Hannah, Charles looked up from his notebook, all serious, and said, "Get me a list of all the interns in the PR department."

If what Hannah said was true.

Then those people must be the victims.

He wouldn't let Gordon off the hook if he found out that Gordon had inappropriate relations with employees.

Such things were absolutely not allowed in his company.

Wyatt asked, puzzled, "What do you need that for?"

And he had to check it himself.

This kind of thing usually didn't need his attention.

But now Charles wanted him to handle it personally.

Something fishy was definitely going on.

Charles leaned back in his leather chair, face like stone, and said in a deep voice, "Hannah said Gordon's been messing around with employees. If she's right, then those interns are the ones getting screwed over."

Wyatt got it right away, "Gotcha! I'll hit up HR and get that list ASAP!"

Charles nodded, satisfied, and waved him off, "Alright! Get to it!"

Wyatt turned and left.

He was quick about it, and soon enough, he had the list.

"In the three years Gordon's been here, there've been ten interns in the PR department! All their info's in the docs I gave you," Charles said.

Charles flipped through the documents Wyatt brought.

Each person's info was complete, with a photo in each file.

Wyatt frowned, "Something's off! In the past three years, the turnover in that department's been crazy high. Some folks left after just a week! The longest anyone stayed was a month. The reasons were all over the place—some said they were sick, some said they were moving abroad, and some said they were going back to school. Even weirder..."

He paused, looking awkward.

Charles gave him a light glance, "What's weird?"

Wyatt scratched his head, looking uncomfortable, "The weird thing is, there are guys in there too, all young dudes fresh outta college. Some tried to transfer departments, and some just quit. None of them stuck around long."

If the high turnover among women could be chalked up to Gordon's harassment, that made sense.

But the high turnover among men? That was a head-scratcher.

Charles raised an eyebrow.

Wyatt continued, "It's not just the employees who left, but the interns too! Some bailed after just a few days."

He paused and went on, "Logically, our company is the top dog in mobile gaming, and everyone wants in. Once they're in, why would they bounce so fast?

And the interns.

Landing an internship here means other companies will be all over them after graduation.

Why would they ditch such a golden opportunity so quickly after getting in?

Maybe because..."

Wyatt trailed off.

Charles knew what he was getting at and coldly finished, "Unless they had a reason they couldn't stay, a reason they couldn't talk about or complain about."

Wyatt stayed silent. His silence said it all.

Charles's handsome face turned dark, and a cold vibe surrounded him.

Charles said, "You handle this! Get to the bottom of it, fast."

"Yes!" Wyatt nodded and left.

Charles narrowed his eyes.

This kind of crap was happening in his company.

This time, he was gonna clean house for real.

During lunch break, Hannah instinctively reached into her bag for her lunch but found it empty.

She pulled out her phone, ready to order takeout, but it rang right then.

The call was from her fiancé.

At the same time, the door to the CEO's office opened, and Charles walked out.

Hannah smiled at him and pointed to her phone screen.

Charles glanced at it casually and walked away without saying anything.

Hannah looked at the name flashing on her phone screen, answered the call, and said happily, "Austin, how do you have time to call me at this hour?"
