Chapter 153 Martin's Sudden Change of Heart Toward Fannie

Seeing that Debbie had stopped pretending to be mad and stupid so openly, Hunter knew that she had been persuaded by him. The smile on his lips gradually became sinister.

Debbie raised an eyebrow and said with a half-smile, "Aren't you and Patricia childhood sweethearts? Why do you want to ally with me against her?"

Hunter replied, "That's none of your concern. You just need to answer me, do you want to work with me or not?"

Debbie pressed further, "Then how do you plan to help me evade Jocelyn's surveillance? With the standing of the Thomas family in Ivara City, if they discover my act, I'm a goner. And I won't be able to use this tactic to save my life anymore! I won't agree unless I'm completely sure."

Hunter smiled enigmatically, "Don't worry, if I approach you, it's because I'm fully confident!"

Immediately, Debbie said, "If you can free me from Jocelyn, I agree to cooperate with you."

Hunter gave a smile, no longer spoke, and turned to leave.

Debbie glanced around, sweeping the area, then lowered her head to knock her forehead repeatedly against the iron door, mumbling multiplication tables again.

She really looked like a lunatic.

After leaving Debbie's hospital room, Hunter turned a corner and went straight to another ward.

Through the bars of the iron door, he saw his brother inside, looking out of the window foolishly. A tearful Hunter called out, "Brother..."

The man inside turned around and chuckled upon seeing him.

"Little brother, you're here?"

Hunter could not hold back anymore and tears streamed down his face.

"Brother, don't worry. I will definitely avenge you. Those who did this to you won't get away with it. I'll make them pay with their blood..."

...

The day passed swiftly.

During dinner time, Fannie still showed up.

She was forcibly brought there by Charles.

Martin and Randy sat on one side.

Patricia and Charles sat with Fannie on the other side.

Fannie looked at Martin sitting across from her, and no matter how she looked at him, she found him disagreeable. Puffing her cheeks, she looked as grumpy as a frog.

Martin, a departure from his usual indifferent attitude towards Fannie, pushed a piece of cake toward her from across the table, "Fannie, your mommy told me you love sweets. This cake is delicious, you should try some."

His sudden change left Fannie completely astonished, almost suspecting someone had switched his soul; it was as if he was a different person.

"Why are you suddenly so nice to me? Is there some sort of scheme behind it?"

That bastard dad is definitely up to no good.

Her words caused Martin's expression to freeze, his forced smile nearly collapsing.

Patricia shot her a glance, issuing an annoyed warning: “Fannie, do you remember what I told you? What should you say when someone gives you something?”

Fannie replied with haughty defiance, “I don’t want his stuff.”

A hint of irritation flickered between Patricia’s eyebrows. “Fannie…”

Patricia knew, when Mommy used both her first and last name, it meant she was starting to get angry. Even though Fannie was still cross with her dad, she begrudgingly accepted the cake and muttered a thank you: “Thank you, Mr. Langley.”

Both Patricia and Charles’ lips twitched involuntarily, feeling helpless about the grudge between Fannie and Martin.

After dinner, Martin suggested going to a movie.

“Fannie, I heard from Randy that you really enjoy Disney animations. There’s a new release. Shall we go watch it together later?” This piece of information was something he had made a point of inquiring from Randy on the way over.

Fannie hadn’t expected him to take an interest in her preferences. Surprised, she began to see this 'jerk dad' in a new light, the resentment in her heart lessening bit by bit.

Maybe… she had been wrong about jerk dad?

Could it be that jerk dad wasn't as bad as she imagined?

Perhaps, she could find a time to tell jerk dad that she was his daughter.

Yes!

That’s what she would do!

Having made up her mind, Fannie’s attitude towards Martin gradually changed. She was no longer puffing with anger, opposing him at every turn, instead readily accepting his suggestion with a light heart.

“I've also heard that Disney has released a new animation. I want to see it.”

“Alright, I’ll book the tickets now.”

Martin was thrilled that she was so easily appeased, quickly pulling out his phone to make the call: “Book five tickets for the 8 o'clock Disney animation.”

Fannie looked at him with disdain and, after he finished the call, said dismissively, “Would you be helpless without Alan?”

Martin was confused: “...??”

Fannie continued, “Even buying movie tickets, you have him handle it? He really doesn’t have an easy job earning your money.”

Martin was still baffled: “...??”

Fannie stood up and took a seat next to Martin, extending her hand: “Give me your phone; I’ll show you how to buy movie tickets on it.”

As she earnestly handled the phone like a miniature adult, Martin was momentarily caught off guard, yet not angry, and unlocked his phone to hand it to her.

Fannie operated the phone deftly.

Seeing his distracted gaze, she growled with displeasure: “I’m teaching you, so pay attention! How else are you going to learn?”

Immediately, Martin obediently shifted his gaze to the phone.

As she operated her phone, Fannie narrated, "First open the app, then tap here, wait for this... then choose a seat... next, hit the payment button, and finally do this..."

Martin watched Fannie's demonstration with the earnestness of a student brimming with curiosity.

Patricia and Charles shared a conspiratorial glance, a hint of a smile touching their eyes, delighted by the easing tension between them.

After the tutorial, Fannie didn't forget to check with Martin, "Got it?"

Taking the phone, Martin replicated Fannie's steps and soon enough, had booked the tickets successfully.

Chin tilted up in pride, Fannie boasted, "See? Easy, right? So, for little things like this, you don't have to bother Alan anymore. You can ask me directly; I'll teach you."

While not as adept as Charles with tech, she certainly knew her way around the basic apps.

Grateful, Martin handed her a slice of cake, "Thank you, this is your reward."

This time, Fannie didn't play coy and refused; she happily took a bite, the cake's aroma enveloping her taste buds.

Perhaps due to her buoyant mood, she found the cake in her hand exceptionally delicious, surpassing any she had tasted before.

With tickets in hand and purchases made via Fannie's instructions, the family of five drove to the cinema.

Martin at the wheel, Randy in the shotgun seat, and Patricia in the back with Charles and Fannie.

It was evening and the cinema was near capacity, filled mostly with parents and their children.

The group quickly found their seats.

Unspoken agreement among the three youngsters had Patricia and Martin sitting together, with Randy and Charles flanking Fannie like bodyguards.

Martin, uninterested in the animated feature, took advantage of the dark to steal glances at Patricia. The flickering movie light cast upon her face, highlighted her delicate complexion, and he found himself mesmerized.

Patricia, however, was enjoying the film, munching on popcorn with relish.

In the midst of the film's seamless progression, the screen suddenly shifted and a dark shadow flashed across, paired with ominous music, startling Patricia enough for her to instinctively clutch at Martin's neck —
