Chapter 748 Finding Evidence to Prove Innocence
Sebastian said, "He took off the night before it all went down."
Brooke's face went white, "He ran?"
Sebastian nodded, "Yeah, Riley was watching him, but his guys knocked out Riley's team and got him out. We still haven't caught him."
Brooke shook with anger, "He tricked me too!"
Sebastian had been waiting for this. His eyes narrowed, "Do you know any of his secrets? Like where he might be hiding? Or if he did anything suspicious?"
Maybe they could find a way to fix the Koch Group's mess with some clues.
Thinking about how she had been played, Brooke felt like a fool.
Brooke said, "I don't know! I was never that close to Riley's people! When Patricia came back, that spy started hinting how Shane favored Patricia so much after she returned to the Koch family, and how guilty he felt towards Elise! At first, I felt uncomfortable and thought it was unfair, but I could tolerate it. Later, he told me that Shane had already made a will, planning to give 30% of his shares to Patricia, 30% to Riley, and 20% to Ariel. The remaining 20% would be divided among our family. When I found out about this, I felt very upset and started thinking of ways to drive Patricia out of the house."
In hindsight, he must have said those things to Brooke on purpose, to use her against Patricia!
Sebastian found it almost funny, "How could you believe such a ridiculous lie?"
Brooke wasn't as capable as Riley, but she was still one of the smartest and most resourceful women.
He couldn't believe Brooke had been fooled by a few words from a spy.
Even Brooke found it laughable now.
Brooke said, "I don't know why I believed him. I felt like I was under a spell. I'm sorry, Sebastian. I let you down. It's my fault."
Seeing Brooke cry, Sebastian couldn't stand it. He put a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Sebastian said, "We know we messed up. Let's not do it again!"
Brooke felt deeply guilty and remorseful.
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and looked sharply at Sebastian, "Sebastian, I remember once when I went to see him, I heard him on the phone."
Sebastian was shocked, "What did he say? Did you hear anything?"
Brooke thought hard, "I'm not sure who he was talking to, but I heard him say, 'I'll send the stuff to you via email.'"
Sebastian furrowed his brows, deep in thought.
Brooke continued, "He lowered his voice on purpose. It must have been something he didn't want others to know about. Otherwise, why be so secretive?"
Sebastian nodded, reassuring her, "Got it! I'll go find Riley now. You rest up in the hospital! I'll check on you later."
Brooke quickly said, "No need! The company's matters are more important. My injury isn't a big deal."
Sebastian thought for a moment and agreed, "Alright, if you feel unwell, call me immediately!"
Brooke answered, "Okay!"
Before leaving, Sebastian told the doctors and nurses to contact him immediately if anything happened, then he left.
In the President's Office of the Koch Group.
The large office was so quiet.
A suffocating tension filled the air.
Riley sat behind his desk, his face ashen, habitually turning the jade ring on his thumb, his eyes fixed on his assistant, Joshua.
Joshua kept his head down, sweat beading on his forehead, not daring to breathe too loudly.
He'd been with Riley for years.
Riley took prompt and decisive action but was never arrogant or dismissive.
He treated people well, giving employees and executives a chance to correct their mistakes without losing his temper.
But this time, Riley was genuinely pissed.
Since the incident, he'd blown up several times.
Riley's lips were a thin, tight line as he asked, "Still haven't found him?"
Joshua nodded, "Since it happened, he hasn't shown up at the company. We've checked his place, his parents' house, his parents in-laws' house, and all his relatives' houses. No sign of him."
Riley clenched his jaw, his chest heaving with anger, his breath icy.
The tension in the room was palpable.
Joshua's shirt was soaked with sweat, his nerves stretched to the breaking point.
Just as Joshua was about to crack, a knock sounded at the door.
Riley said, "Come in!"
The door opened, and Sebastian and Martin walked in.
Seeing them, Joshua let out a sigh of relief.
With their arrival, Riley might cool down a bit.
Joshua was temporarily off the hook.
Martin sensed the tension and knew things were bad, "Couldn't find him?"
Riley's anger subsided a bit, but his voice was still furious, "He might've already left the country! Before it all went down, he took two days of sick leave. He was planning his escape."
Sebastian was puzzled, "Stealing trade secrets is illegal!"
Riley irritably twisted the ring on his thumb, "Of course he knows! But people still commit crimes knowing they're illegal!"
Sebastian quickly relayed what he'd learned from Brooke to Riley, "My mom said they communicated via email! If we can access their emails and find their chat records, we might be able to clear our name."
As soon as he finished, both men turned to Martin.
Martin was puzzled.
Riley smirked, "Isn't Charles a computer genius? I've seen his skills. He might be able to help us."
Although the Koch Group had its own programmers, Riley feared leaving any trace that the other party might discover.
Only Charles could get in and out without a trace.
Martin said, "Alright! I'll contact Charles now."
He took out his phone and called Charles.
By now, Charles should've been out of school.
Sure enough, the call was quickly answered, "Dad, what's up?"
Martin asked, "We need you to access an email account and find all the chat records."
Charles readily agreed, "Sure! That's easy. What's the email address? I can get in right now."
Martin had the call on speaker, so Riley and Sebastian heard him and immediately provided the email address.
"Give me five minutes!" Charles confidently assured them and then hung up.
Riley and Sebastian exchanged glances.
Sebastian curiously asked, "Can he really do it in five minutes?"
Martin smiled, "If he says five minutes, then he would keep his word. He'll get it done."
Sebastian stroked his chin, "Charles is pretty impressive! I doubt any programmer at the Koch Group could match his skills."
Martin laughed, "You should praise him in person. He'd love that."
Sebastian laughed too, "If he works it out, I'll definitely praise him in person."
They just hoped they could find the evidence in email.
