Chapter 1269 Heart-wrenching Pain
Seeing that he wasn't saying anything, Stella figured he was silently protesting, not wanting to take Emeric on as a student.
"Randy, I promised my boyfriend I'd convince you. If you don't agree, I won't be able to face him." She was pulling out all the stops, using both charm and pressure.
Whenever she acted cute, Randy would cave.
It never failed.
This time would be no different.
After a long pause, Randy finally spoke, his voice rough. "Your boyfriend?"
Stella had a boyfriend? When did this happen?
He'd only been gone for three days, and now she had a boyfriend?
Stella nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! It's Emeric, the music student you met before from our school! Randy, please agree! Take him on as a student. You've helped him out before, so you know he's talented! You don't have any students right now, so taking one would be perfect."
Randy fought to keep the bitterness out of his voice.
Stella having a boyfriend was a good thing, right?
This way, they could always stay just cousins.
But why did it hurt so much?
Seeing him go quiet again, Stella couldn't help but ask, "Randy, what do you say?"
Even though Randy liked Stella, he wasn't the type to mix personal matters with his career.
By his standards for accepting students, Emeric didn't make the cut.
"I can't agree."
"Why not?" Stella hadn't expected him to say no.
In her mind, Randy always went along with her wishes. She thought that as long as she asked, Randy would definitely agree.
She never expected him to refuse so firmly.
Randy explained calmly, "He's someone whose hard work outweighs his talent. To get where he is today, I believe it wasn't just talent; he must really love music."
Stella nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes, he really loves music! But his family couldn't afford to nurture his talent, so he's been held back."
Randy continued, expressionless, "Stella, do you know how many people I've seen over the years who are more talented and hardworking than him? But I didn't take any of them as students because I only want one student in my life, someone unique who meets all my requirements. Emeric doesn't fit that."
Stella asked, frustrated, "Then what kind of student do you want?"
Randy replied coldly, "Definitely not someone like Emeric! I can guide him occasionally, but I can't take him as a student. I can't lower my standards just because he's your boyfriend. Do you understand?"
Stella said, "Can't you bend your principles for me?"
"No!" Randy said firmly. "Anything else, but not music! Stella, you should know that I value music more than my life. That's my bottom line."
Hearing his words, Stella felt like her chest was stuffed with a stone, suffocating her.
What did Randy mean by that?
Was he saying that in his heart, she was less important than music?
Seeing her silent and breathing heavily, Randy knew she was angry and softened his tone. "Stella, don't make this harder for me."
Stella felt very wronged.
She didn't want to make it hard for him either!
But if he didn't take Emeric as a student, how could she see him every day?
Was Randy trying to completely distance himself from her?
Stella felt a deep pain in her heart, like an invisible hand was squeezing it. "Is there really no room for negotiation?"
Randy's attitude was unusually firm. "No! No room for negotiation!"
Stella didn't want to argue with him over this.
The last time she got mad and ignored him, their relationship still hadn't recovered. She didn't want to make things worse.
So, she didn't push him but instead said, "Can you give me tickets to your concert? I want the best seats. Emeric idolizes you and has always wanted to attend your concert, but your tickets are hard to get. So, I want to ask you for two tickets."
If Randy couldn't take Emeric as a student, at least they could attend his concert together. At least she could see Randy.
Randy thought for a moment and then agreed without hesitation. "Sure! On the day of the concert, I'll have Jett meet you at the entrance."
Stella shouted in disappointment, "Do we have to wait until the concert? Can't we go earlier?"
The concert was still more than half a month away! That meant she wouldn't see Randy for more than half a month.
"No! I'm very busy these days and don't have time to accompany you! You've already taken a long leave from school; you can't skip more classes!"
Stella pouted and asked, feeling wronged, "Where's your first stop in Country Y? What date?"
"Next month on the 25th!"
"That's a whole month away!"
Today was the 25th. The concert was on the 25th of next month, which meant she wouldn't see Randy for a whole month.
"Yes!"
Stella wanted to say more, but Randy said, "It's getting late, and I have things to do. We'll talk later. Contact me if you need anything."
With that, he hung up on Stella for the second time.
Listening to the busy tone on the other end, Stella's heart sank.
The second time. Randy had hung up on her for the second time. He never used to do that.
Her chest felt tight and sour, with a deep sense of foreboding swirling in her heart.
It was as if a chasm had suddenly opened between her and Randy. She had a nagging feeling that they were drifting further apart.
A fine, pervasive fear squeezed her, making it hard to breathe.
No. She couldn't let this happen! She absolutely wouldn't allow it.
She had to repair her relationship with Randy. She couldn't let things fall apart with him.
After hanging up, Randy could no longer hold on. He closed his eyes in pain and rubbed his throbbing temples.
A voice screamed in his head. 'Stella has a boyfriend. She has a boyfriend?'
The thought made him feel terrible. The air in his stomach was squeezed, and the pain spread bit by bit.
Something in his chest was screaming and crashing, making him feel like he was going to explode, the pain almost unbearable.
He pressed his left chest, trying to ease the excruciating pain.
Actually, this was for the best. Stella having a boyfriend meant he could completely give up his delusions.
As long as they kept their distance, he could slowly remove her from his heart.
Maybe the process would be painful. But he believed he could do it.
He had to.
