Chapter 932 Evasion
Charles figured out that not just Patricia, but even Maximilian, Carol, and Stella were acting all weird and cagey, like they had something to spill but couldn't, especially Stella.
Stella, usually the loud one, had gone all quiet these past few days. And she was dodging him and Hannah like the plague.
Even Hannah picked up on the weird vibes.
So, they decided to corner her and get to the bottom of why everyone was acting so sketchy lately.
After a bunch of failed attempts to catch Stella, they finally trapped her at the entrance of the school library.
Seeing Charles and Hannah blocking her way, Stella forced a smile. "Oh, hey! Fancy seeing you two here."
Hannah crossed her arms and stared her down. She didn't say a word, but her face said it all.
Stella took a step back, giving Hannah a goofy grin.
But she didn't get far before Charles blocked her from behind.
Her smile vanished, and her shoulders slumped in defeat.
Stella sighed, "Hannah, don't push me. It's not that I don't wanna tell you, but I can't! I've been avoiding you guys on purpose. You know I'm terrible at keeping secrets. I'm scared I'll spill the beans."
Hannah raised an eyebrow. "Of course, I know you got something to say, and it involves me! Spill it, what's the deal?"
Stella looked desperate. "You figured it out?"
Hannah rolled her eyes. "You might as well have written it on your forehead. If I didn't know, I'd be a total idiot."
Stella looked down, avoiding her gaze.
Hannah knew she wouldn't crack easily, so she lifted Stella's chin, making her look up. "Stella, what's going on? Why's everyone acting so weird lately?"
Stella looked at her pitifully. "I really can't say."
Hannah asked, puzzled, "Why not?"
Stella's face turned red with frustration. She wanted to talk but couldn't. After flailing her arms a bit, her shoulders slumped again. "Hannah, I really can't say. If I do, you'll get hurt."
Charles got curious. "What could possibly hurt her?"
Stella bit her lip tightly, refusing to speak.
Though she usually yapped a lot, she knew this was something she couldn't spill no matter what.
Charles and Hannah had just started their happy life together, and now this? Hannah wouldn't be able to handle it.
Charles raised an eyebrow. "What's going on?"
Stella seemed to make up her mind, biting her lip tightly and refusing to speak no matter how much they pressed.
Hannah and Charles exchanged a glance. The more she clammed up, the more they felt something big was being kept from them.
Looking at Hannah, Stella's expression changed, showing a hint of pity and reluctance.
Hannah was super confused.
Stella patted Hannah's shoulder, saying with concern, "Hannah, remember, if even I can't tell you something, it must be for your own good! Don't ask anymore. Just be happy with Charles."
Hannah was even more puzzled.
"Remember what I said, don't worry about anything!" After this final advice, Stella took off.
In all the time they'd known each other, this was the first time Hannah had seen Stella so serious.
"What's up with her?" Hannah asked, walking over to Charles, watching Stella's retreating figure, feeling more and more uneasy.
Charles put his hand on her shoulder, pulling her into his arms to comfort her. "If she says so, then just roll with it! Let's not dig any deeper."
The unease in her heart made Hannah feel scared.
She nodded, trying to convince herself. "You're right. Let's head back."
They had only taken a few steps when Stella, who had already left, came running back in a hurry.
Hannah and Charles were both puzzled.
Stella grabbed them and turned them around, heading towards the left side of the library. "Come on, I'm starving. We haven't hit up the third cafeteria in a while. Let's go there today!"
Hannah was surprised. "Didn't you say the food at the third cafeteria was trash? With so many cafeterias at school, you hate the third one the most."
Why was she suddenly saying she missed the food there?
Stella seemed anxious, walking quickly. "Even bad food can be missed if you don't eat it for a long time! Though the third cafeteria's food is bad, some of it is kinda good! Since you're here, let's go eat together."
Hannah was speechless. "Aren't you afraid of letting something slip?"
Stella laughed. "As long as you don't keep asking, I can keep my mouth shut."
Hannah was at a loss for words.
As they walked towards the third cafeteria, Stella suddenly turned them around and headed in the opposite direction.
Hannah asked, "Weren't we going to the third cafeteria?"
Stella explained, "I changed my mind. Let's go to the first cafeteria!"
Hannah continued, "What do you actually want to eat?"
Stella was preoccupied and answered absentmindedly, "Anything will do!"
As long as they could avoid it!
She was definitely hiding something.
Hannah stopped her, looking stern and displeased. "Stella, what's going on? First, you say you want to go to the third cafeteria, then the first. You're not here for the food, are you? Are you avoiding someone?"
She couldn't think of any other reason for Stella's erratic behavior.
Stella was so anxious that she was about to cry, stomping her foot. "Stop asking and just come with me!"
With that, she tried to forcibly drag Hannah away.
If she wouldn't speak, Hannah wouldn't go. "I'm not going! Tell me first, maybe I can help you!"
Charles also noticed her urgency and asked with concern, "Yeah! Even if Hannah can't help, I can. Tell us, what's going on?"
Stella was so anxious that sweat was forming on her forehead.
She looked around, and when she saw the person behind Hannah and Charles, her expression turned to despair. "If you don't leave now, you'll regret it!"
Charles frowned slightly and thought, 'Stella is acting really strange today. What could she be hiding for so long?'
Hannah, still confused, asked, "What could I possibly regret?"
Just as Stella was at a loss for words and trying to drag them away, a gentle voice sounded behind Hannah and Charles. "Charles..."
Immediately, a figure rushed over and hugged Charles from behind.
