Chapter 1264 Heartbroken?
Stella lay on her bed, too distracted to scroll through social media or news. She kept picking up her phone to check it, only to put it down in disappointment when she saw it was still empty.
This repeated several times.
Time ticked by slowly.
Before she knew it, it was already past midnight.
Randy still hadn't texted or called her.
Last time she was upset, he had immediately tried to cheer her up.
But this time, he was acting like he didn't notice?
Hadn't she made it obvious enough today?
He couldn't possibly have missed it!
If he did notice, why wasn't he reaching out to her?
She had lost so much money because of him.
Didn't he realize he was the one to blame?
Randy just didn't care about her anymore!
He didn't care about her at all.
She ignored him, and he just let her be!
The more she thought about it, the more upset and angry she became. Stella was so mad she couldn't sleep all night, staring wide-eyed as the night faded and the sun rose.
When the first rays of dawn shone through the window, she shielded her eyes with her hand and mechanically picked up her phone to check it again.
There were still no calls or messages.
Randy really hadn't contacted her all night, nor had he tried to comfort her.
Stella's eyes welled up with tears.
Just then, her phone rang.
She felt like a wilted flower finally being watered, her face lighting up with joy as she grabbed her phone.
But when she saw the caller ID, her expression quickly darkened.
She answered the call listlessly, her voice hoarse, "Mom!"
Her voice was dry and raspy from a sleepless night, like someone who had been feverish for a day and night.
Carol was startled by her voice. "Stella, what's wrong with your voice? Are you sick? Don't worry, I'll come over right away. Stay in your room and wait for me!"
Stella replied weakly, "I'm not sick! I'm fine! Don't worry! I just didn't sleep all night, so my throat is a bit hoarse."
Carol thought she was still upset about losing money and tried to comfort her, "It's just a million dollars, not a billion! Your dad said he'd cover it for you! Stop dwelling on it! I remember you used to be more adaptable! Why can't you let it go today?"
Stella didn't want to talk about it anymore.
She just felt miserable, her head throbbing. "Mom, it's over. I'm not thinking about it anymore! I'm so tired, I just want to sleep!"
Carol sensed her low spirits from her tone.
No one knew a daughter better than her mother, and Carol immediately felt something was off with Stella.
Seeing Carol not speaking, Stella was about to hang up when she heard Carol say, "I'm at your door, open up!"
Stella frowned tightly. "Mom, I really want to sleep!"
Carol insisted, "Open the door! Or I'll get the hotel staff to open it."
Stella had no choice but to hang up, forcing herself to endure the headache as she stumbled to open the door.
Carol was shocked at the sight of Stella's pale face and bloodshot eyes, immediately reaching out to feel her forehead. "Why do you look so bad? You said you weren't sick, but clearly something's wrong."
Stella leaned weakly against the wall, letting Carol check her temperature.
Feeling her normal temperature, Carol sighed in relief. "Thank goodness, no fever!"
Stella said self-deprecatingly, "I told you, I'm not sick. I just didn't sleep all night, and now my body can't take it. I'm just really tired!"
Carol sighed helplessly, "You can't sleep on an empty stomach! I called the hotel earlier to have breakfast sent up. Eat something before you sleep!"
"I don't want to eat!" Stella replied weakly, then staggered to the couch and lay down, her legs hanging off the edge.
Carol grew more concerned.
She sat beside Stella, placing her legs on her lap and holding her hands warmly, "Stella, do you have someone you like?"
Stella had always been carefree, the little princess they had raised with love.
For her to be so heartbroken, it had to be about love.
Stella trembled at the question.
She did have someone.
She had been pursuing Emeric for so long because she liked him!
Seeing her not deny it, Carol knew she was right and probed further, "Did you have a fight with the person you like? Tell me! I've been through this, maybe I can help!"
Stella turned over, lying on her side, and said weakly, "No! We're fine! He's in Country D, and I'm in Sunset Bay! We're not even together, how could we fight?"
Carol was taken aback. "You're really in a relationship?"
Stella nodded, "Yeah!"
Carol was surprised, "When did this start? How come I didn't know? Is it Emeric?"
She really hadn't noticed Stella was in a relationship.
When Emeric visited their home, she sensed Stella had a crush on him and seemed to be pursuing him.
But she hadn't seen any signs of them being together.
As someone who had been through it, she knew too well! When a woman fell in love, she looked radiant, surrounded by pink bubbles, often smiling at her phone.
But Stella hadn't shown any of these signs.
Stella said listlessly, "It's just a relationship, not marriage. What's there to talk about!"
Carol was speechless. "Stella, do you really like Emeric?"
She couldn't sense it at all.
Stella answered without hesitation. "Yes! I chased him for a long time before he agreed! It was really hard!"
Carol added, "If you two didn't have a fight, why do you look so heartbroken, like you're going through a breakup?"
Stella didn't know herself, so she couldn't answer.
She just knew she felt terrible because Randy hadn't comforted her.
Could it be that Randy was tired of her? Thought she was too temperamental? Often causing trouble, so he didn't want to comfort her anymore? Was he fed up with her?
Thinking of this possibility, her headache worsened. She turned over, facing the couch back, and murmured, "I don't know, I don't know! I'm so tired, Mom, can you leave? I want to sleep."
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Stella knew it must be the hotel delivering breakfast and irritably threw a couch pillow.
"I don't want to eat, I don't want to eat, Mom, tell them to take the breakfast away! I just want to sleep!" She was really annoyed.
But she couldn't take it out on Carol.
So she had to find another excuse.
Right now, she just wanted to be alone, not go anywhere.
