Chapter 628 Dying

"Frank worked efficiently and had all the medicines on the prescription ready within a few hours.

Ryan was worried about Martin and feared any mishaps during transportation that could affect saving lives, so he personally delivered the medicinal herbs to the United States.

Meanwhile, Maximilian searched the entire city but couldn't gather all the medicines.

The commonly used medicines were relatively easy to find, but there were a few types that were usually hard to come by, so the hospital didn't have them prepared.

Thanks to the high efficiency of Frank and Ryan, after the medicines were transported to the United States, Kaleb inspected each medicine for quality assurance before taking them back.

Even when the butler offered to help, he was turned away. He insisted on personally handling his son-in-law's medication.

While waiting at the airport for Maximilian to transport the medicines, Ryan visited Martin at the hospital immediately.

After not seeing Martin for a while, who had visibly lost weight, Ryan, a big man, couldn't help but feel sad, his eyes slightly reddened.

""Martin, how did you end up like this?"" he asked, his voice trembling.

At that moment, Martin, feeling very weak, sat on the hospital bed, leaning against the headboard, having just finished a bowl of corn porridge.

In reality, he had no appetite.

He could clearly feel that his life was nearing its end.

He felt a loss of appetite, weakness throughout his body, and difficulty mustering any strength.

Even speaking was a challenge for him.

However, to avoid worrying Patricia, he forced himself to finish the bowl of corn porridge.

As soon as he finished the porridge, he felt his stomach churning, feeling nauseous and on the verge of vomiting, but he endured it, not letting himself throw up.

Seeing Ryan arrive, Martin weakly smiled and said, ""When someone is sick, naturally their spirits are low.""

Ryan wiped his nose and said, ""If I had known, I would have gone with you and Randy to save Declan in the United States.""

Martin smiled. ""What would you have done there? They had a large group, and if you had gone, it would have been risking your life for nothing. I already feel guilty towards Randy, and if something happened to you, I wouldn't be able to live with myself.""

Ryan replied, ""I'm good at fighting! If I had gone, even if all three of us got injured, at least you wouldn't be in such a critical condition.""

Ever since Charles's incident, he blamed himself every day.

He always asked himself why he hadn't gone with them.

If he had gone, perhaps things wouldn't have escalated to this point.

Just as Martin was about to comfort him, he felt a difficulty in breathing, covering his mouth, he started coughing loudly.

Ryan immediately approached and gently patted his back to help him breathe.

After coughing for a long time, Martin finally caught his breath. To avoid worrying Ryan, he clenched his hand slightly, preparing to hide it under the blanket.

Ryan noticed the blood seeping through his fingers, grabbed his hand, and before Martin could react, he opened his palm, revealing the bright red blood.

His eyes widened in shock, ""Martin, you're coughing up blood!""

Since he had been discovered, Martin decided not to hide it anymore. He wiped the blood off his palm with a few wet and dry tissues and handed them to Ryan.

""Dispose of these in the trash in the utility room, don't let Patricia know. I don't want her to worry,"" he said.

Ryan took the blood-stained tissues, his eyes turning red.

""Martin, why are you coughing up blood? Are you really going to die? Are you really going to leave me?""

He didn't want this to happen!

He had just managed to recover from the sadness of losing Martin.

Before he could even be happy, Martin was about to die again.

Afraid that Patricia had returned, Martin frowned slightly and urged, ""Enough, don't say anything, just get rid of the things for me! It wouldn't be good if Patricia saw them when she returns.""

Ryan obediently nodded and walked towards the door, bypassing the bed.

At the moment Martin finished speaking, a figure flashed past the ward door.

Patricia hid in the women's restroom, standing in front of the sink with her eyes closed, taking deep breaths, trying to hold back the tears in her eyes and prevent them from falling.

After a long time, she barely managed to compose herself, lowered her head, washed her face with cold water, and practiced smiling in front of the mirror.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't manage to smile.

Seeing herself in the mirror, her suppressed emotions collapsed again.

Tears flowed uncontrollably like a bursting dam.

After crying and venting, she lowered her head, continuously rinsing her face with cold water and applying cold compresses to her swollen eyes.

She didn't know how long she had been in the restroom.

When she returned to the ward, Ryan and Martin were chatting as if nothing had happened.

Seeing her come in, Martin gently smiled at her, ""Why were you gone for so long?""

Patricia obediently sat down beside the bed.

""Since I was ordering food, I had to check the cleanliness of their kitchen, I couldn't just choose any place randomly, so it took some time.""

Previously, all of Martin's meals were bought by her from outside.

Back then, she would just buy from anywhere without paying much attention to the place.

Now she couldn't do that anymore.

With Martin's condition worsening, she had to be extremely careful.

So she chose a restaurant, spent a lot of money, and had the food prepared according to Kaleb's specifications.

In each dish, there were herbs selected by Kaleb to aid in recovery.

Martin immediately noticed her bloodshot eyes and reached out to touch her eyes. ""What's wrong with you? Have you been crying?""

Patricia thought her face didn't show any signs, but Martin immediately noticed, so she forced a smile and said, ""I've been crying almost every day these past few days. You know I've always been a crybaby.""

Martin almost thought she knew about him coughing up blood, but hearing her words, he dismissed his suspicions.

At that moment, Ryan said, ""Patricia, I'll stay here for now and help you take care of Martin! You've lost a lot of weight during this time, and taking care of Martin alone would be too much for you! I can help you.""

Patricia originally wanted to refuse, but Martin had already spoken up, ""Since Ryan wants to stay, let him stay! The more hands, the better.""

Patricia initially wanted to refuse but changed her mind and nodded. ""Then I'll leave it to you!""

""Why be polite with me! Taking care of Martin is the least I can do!""

And so Ryan stayed as well.

Patricia had to frequently call the children in Ivara City to report on Martin's condition. To avoid worrying them, she only mentioned the positive things that happened.

With Ryan staying to take care of Martin, Patricia would come to Kaleb's house every day after taking care of Martin's breakfast to learn medicine from him."
