Chapter 609 Really Pregnant

Shane's voice was laced with worry as he spoke, "It's been half a month already, and we're still in the dark. Her condition isn't improving! I've suggested another hospital visit, but she's adamant about not going."Ariel, attempting to lighten the mood, chuckled lightly, "I assure you, I'm fine."Shane's brows knitted together in frustration, "Fine, you say! You even vomit when you drink water."His gaze turned to Patricia, anxiety evident in his voice, "Patricia, why don't you take your sister for another check-up? What if it's something serious? I've heard that advanced-stage stomach cancer can cause severe vomiting. Please tell me it's not that."His fear was palpable; the thought of an incurable disease terrified him. He had already suffered the loss of his daughter; the thought of losing a granddaughter was unbearable.Patricia's frown deepened at his words, "Vomiting even when drinking water? Is it worse in the morning?"Ariel nodded, "Yes, in the morning, I feel nauseous, and sometimes I can't even bring anything up, just some yellowish liquid."Her words stirred up her own fears of a serious illness, and she turned to Patricia anxiously, "Patricia, do you think there could be something seriously wrong with me?"Initially, Patricia had only harbored suspicions, but now she was almost eighty percent certain of her guess. However, it was clearly not the time to discuss this. Patricia offered comfort, "Don't worry, I'm 100% sure it's not stomach cancer. When the doctor is on duty, I'll take you for an examination."Being a doctor herself, Patricia's words carried weight. Naturally, Ariel believed her.The assurance that she didn't have stomach cancer brought a wave of relief over Ariel.Patricia then asked, "Did you have breakfast? I'm about to go buy breakfast for Martin; I'll get you something, too!"Jeremy volunteered, "You stay here with your brother-in-law. I'll buy it for you. What do you guys want?"As Patricia was keen to learn more about Ariel's condition, she didn't argue with him, "Sure! Get Martin a burger; I'm not picky; get me whatever you want."Once everyone had placed their meal requests, Jeremy took his leave.Patricia gestured to Shane, asking him to stay with Martin in the hospital room, then she guided Ariel out of the hospital building.Ariel followed without question, not once asking, "Patricia, where are we going?"Instead of answering, Patricia led her to a pharmacy across the street from the hospital and bought a set of pregnancy test strips."Typically, the chances of pregnancy test strips being wrong are low. Let's buy a few more and test them all. It's unlikely they will all be wrong."
Ariel widened her eyes in surprise. "You mean I'm pregnant?"Patricia nodded. "That's my guess."Ariel immediately shook her head, "It's impossible. I've been married for so many years and have never been pregnant! A while ago, I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor said I have a thin uterus wall, making the chances of pregnancy very low."This had been a source of guilt and self-blame for Ariel for a long time. She had even considered divorcing her husband because she couldn't have children. But her husband had refused to divorce, stating he would rather not have children than lose her.She had been deeply moved by his words. As a result, her older brother had handed over The Koch Group's Southeast Asian market entirely to Miles. The idea of her being pregnant seemed impossible. She had been checked before, and they had said she wasn't pregnant. How could she be pregnant now?It must be a mistake.Patricia explained, "They only said the chances are low, not that it's completely impossible to get pregnant! Anything is possible. Nothing is absolute.""But..." Ariel's voice trailed off as she sadly lowered her head. The fear of disappointment was overwhelming.Patricia comforted her, "Just give it a try. It won't hurt! What if you're pregnant?"Although she didn't know what the problem was.Why couldn't doctors in America detect Susie's pregnancy? However, based on her expertise, Susie was ninety percent likely pregnant.Hearing her words, Ariel felt a glimmer of hope and agreed, "You're right, we can try!""You finally see the light!" Patricia exclaimed.

Patricia and Ariel made their return to the hospital room.
Without a word, Ariel went straight into the bathroom and closed the door behind her with a soft click. In their absence, Jeremy had already made a breakfast run and was in the process of distributing the morning meal among the room's occupants.

Spotting the two women reentering, he couldn't help but voice his curiosity. "Where did you and Ariel disappear to? If I'd known you were stepping out, I would've asked for your help. I nearly spilled the entire breakfast trying to carry it all by myself.""I just stepped out to pick up a few things with Susie," Patricia responded, carefully omitting the details of Susie's pregnancy. She was hesitant to raise their hopes prematurely. No one pressed the matter further, their attention swiftly shifting back to the breakfast before them. Martin, ever the considerate one, urged Patricia to join them. "Come and eat with us. Jeremy got you a burger. It'll get cold if you don't eat it soon.""Okay," Patricia responded, her tone absent-minded. She moved to join them, picking at her food with a casual indifference.Meanwhile, Ariel seemed to have taken up residence in the bathroom, spending an inordinate amount of time within its confines. By the time she finally emerged, everyone had finished their breakfast. Her eyes were red-rimmed, her body trembling slightly, causing a stir among the room's occupants.Shane was the first to react, his concern evident in his hurried words. "Ariel, what's wrong? Did you throw up again? Jeremy, quickly get her some warm water."Patricia moved to comfort Ariel, wrapping her in a gentle embrace. She murmured soothing words, trying to alleviate her disappointment. "It's okay. You're still young, and you'll have plenty of opportunities in the future."Jeremy was quick to comply with Shane's request, handing Ariel a glass of warm water. Martin, too, offered his words of comfort. "Don't worry. Medical science is advanced nowadays, and besides, your issue is minor; it can be easily treated."Ariel felt a surge of warmth at their collective concern. Trembling, she reached behind her and pulled out the pregnancy test strip she'd been hiding. "I'm pregnant... I'm pregnant... I'm pregnant..." she sobbed, her words devolving into tears by the end.Shane and Jeremy were stunned into silence. Shane, in particular, rose to his feet with the aid of his crutch, excitement coloring his words. "Are you really pregnant? Could it be a mistake?"Ariel nodded, her voice filled with conviction. "It's true. There are two bars on the test, and Patricia and I bought pregnancy tests from all the brands, and every single one showed two bars."Patricia took the pregnancy test from Ariel's trembling hand, presenting it to the room. Ten pregnancy test strips in total, each one displaying two vibrant bars. Shane and Jeremy saw it too.Jeremy was overjoyed at the news of his sister's pregnancy, but a nagging question lingered. "So, you were throwing up because you were pregnant, not because of a gastrointestinal disorder?"Ariel, caught up in her happiness, missed the implication of his words. "Yeah! The pregnancy caused it."Jeremy, ever the blunt one, voiced his confusion. "If that's the case, then why didn't the doctors in the U.S. check for it? They said it was a gastrointestinal disorder. What kind of doctors did you see?"His words hung heavy in the room, the joy of moments ago dissipating into a tense silence.

The atmosphere shifted dramatically, leaving them all in a state of uneasy anticipation.
