Chapter 61 Martin Changes Clothes for Patricia

"Patricia..." Martin gently tapped her cheek, hoping to wake her up. But as soon as his hand touched her face, it recoiled from the heat.

"Your face is so hot, Patricia. Are you sick? Can you hear me...?"

However, Patricia showed no response. Her lips were tightly pursed, as if she were scared and in pain, opening and closing without uttering a word.

Recalling the doctor's words, Martin didn't dare to waste any more time and immediately called the duty doctor.

The doctor hurriedly arrived with a nurse.

Using an electronic thermometer, they pressed it against Patricia's forehead. There was a 'beep' sound, and the thermometer displayed a red warning sign, showing a temperature of 104°F.

This temperature frightened Martin. "Why is it so high? Is her condition critical?"

The doctor hurriedly reassured him, "Mr. Langley, please don't worry. I will take her for further examination to determine the cause of the fever. We need the examination results to assess her condition thoroughly."

Saying that, the doctor directed the nurse to push Patricia’s bed out directly.

Martin was afraid that the nurse might not have enough strength, so he called for the bodyguard waiting outside the door.

Just as he was about to follow, Randy, who was sleeping, was awakened by the commotion. He groggily opened his eyes and saw Patricia being pushed away by the nurse.

He immediately became wide awake and grabbed Martin's hand, anxiously asking, "Daddy, what happened to Mommy? Where are they taking her?"

Martin rushed to comfort him, "It's okay, Mommy just has a little fever. The doctor is taking her for an examination."

"A fever? How did she get a fever?" Randy knew it wasn't a simple matter; otherwise, his Daddy wouldn't have made such a fuss.

Afraid that Randy might start imagining things, Martin had no choice but to sit him on the sofa, gently patting his back.

"Mommy is fine. You lie down on the sofa and continue sleeping, I will accompany your Mommy and make sure she is alright."

Randy urged, "Okay. I can take care of myself. Mommy needs you."

Martin worriedly advised, "If you need anything, call me or find a nurse."

Randy nodded vigorously, "Hmm! Daddy, just go and be with Mommy quickly."

Martin placed him on the sofa and hurriedly caught up with Patricia. Not long after he left, Patricia's phone on the bedside table rang.

Following the sound, Randy found it. It was a WhatsApp video call from a user named “Baby”.

Baby?

Who is Mommy's baby?

He felt a slight pang in his heart as he accepted the video call. Fannie's little face appeared in the small frame of the phone, her eyes red as if she had just finished crying.

Upon seeing him, Fannie froze for a moment.

"Randy, why do you have Mommy’s phone? Where is Mommy? Did something happen to her?"

"Your Mommy?" Randy paused for a moment, then realized, "Are you asking about Anna?"

After his reminder, Fannie promptly changed her question, asking, "Yes, Anna. Where is she? Why did you answer Mommy's phone?"

Randy glanced at the time and saw that it was 3:00 in the morning. He wondered, "Why aren't you sleeping? It’s really late."

Bringing up the matter, Fannie's tears, which she had just managed to stop, welled up once more. She said, "I had a nightmare. I dreamt that something happened to Anna. I'm worried, so I wanted to call and confirm. Where is Anna? I miss her. Can I see her?"

Randy's gaze dimmed. "Anna has a fever. Daddy took her for a check-up."

Upon hearing this, Fannie anxiously asked, "A fever? How did she get a fever?"

"Um... well..." Randy lowered his eyes, he was a little hesitant in sharing the details with Fannie.

He didn't want Fannie to worry, but children can't hide their thoughts forever. As he hesitated, Fannie began to sense that something was seriously wrong. After her persistent questioning, Randy couldn't hold back any longer and decided to tell her the whole story.

After listening, Fannie's eyes were swollen from crying, her face filled with disbelief.

"Mommy… Mommy was beaten… beaten into a concussion?"

Off-screen, Charles, after hearing Randy's account, turned red with anger. His entire body trembled, wanting nothing more than to tear the culprits to pieces.

Randy wasn't crying initially, but seeing Fannie cry, he cried too.

"It's all my fault; I didn't take care of Mommy! I should have insisted on not letting the police take Mommy away. It's all my fault..."

Fannie's eyes swelled from crying. "It's not your fault. Debbie and her mother are too ruthless. They're so evil..."

Both of them cried in front of the camera. Randy cried on his side of the phone, while Fannie cried on hers. They cried for quite a while until Charles urged Fannie to reluctantly hang up the phone.

Charles quietly sat on the side, his face, which had a striking resemblance to Martin, devoid of any warmth. His once bright eyes were now as cold as ice in the Arctic, sending shivers down people's spines.

"I'm worried about Mommy. I want to go see her," Fannie expressed, wiping her tears.

She continued, "But you and Randy look identical. That scumbag father is so clever; if he sees you, he'll definitely know the truth.”

Charles slyly rolled his eyes, a thought popping into his mind. "Tomorrow, we’ll ask Jade to take us to the hospital. You and Jade can lure Randy down, delaying as much time as possible. I'll impersonate him and go see Mommy."

Fannie worriedly asked, "Will it work? What if Daddy finds out?"

Charles confidently declared, "I’ll be careful, he won't notice a thing."

After thinking for a while and still worrying about Patricia, Fannie agreed to his proposal.

Meanwhile, in the observation room of the hospital's emergency ward, after receiving the intravenous drip, Patricia's fever gradually subsided.
However, her consciousness remained hazy, her face pale with no hint of color, covered in sweat, which now soaked her clothes.

The doctor sighed with relief after reviewing the examination results.

"Miss Watson's brain shows no signs of blood clots, and she doesn't need surgery. Her life is no longer danger! The fever is caused by a viral invasion due to a weakened immune system, and after three days of receiving injections, she'll be fine."

Upon hearing that Patricia was okay, Martin also breathed a sigh of relief.

The doctor added, "However, Miss Watson's clothes are wet. She needs to change into a new set of dry clothes."

Pointing to the clean clothes laid at the end of the hospital bed, the doctor instructed, "These are patient gowns. Please help her change into them quickly."

Martin nodded and replied, "Alright!"

The doctor, still concerned, asked, "Do you need me to find a nurse to help?"

Martin glanced at the IV attached to Patricia's hand and worried that they might not handle it well, so he shook his head and said, "No need, I can do it myself! You all can leave first!"

"Alright! Call me if you need anything! I'll go out now." After finishing speaking, the doctor took the medical records and left the room.

Martin asked the bodyguard to bring a basin and towel from Patricia's ward, filled it with hot water, and placed it on a nearby stool. He then proceeded to remove Patricia's clothes.

Marks on her neck and collarbone caught his attention.

A wave of pain surged in Martin's chest, his brows furrowed tightly, and a hint of crimson flashed in his eyes, a chilling sight.
