Chapter 40 Patricia Exposes Debbie's Scheme

Patricia's eyebrow arched with a mocking smile.
She had to admit, Debbie's acting was improving by the day.
Debbie knew that causing a scene would only drive Martin further away. So, she switched tactics, opting for a softer approach, retreating in order to advance.
Randy had no fondness for her, particularly when she wept. He said with a frown and impatience, "My parents have reconciled. Dad confessed his love for Mom last night. Tears won't change his mind; he won't marry you."
Randy's words hit Debbie hard. She swayed weakly, her fragile form almost folding, and asked, "Martin, is what Randy said true?"
Before Martin could reply, Randy interjected, "Of course it's true! Dad promised we'd be a family again, with them tucking me in every night."
The thought of their nightly intimacy was a cold shock to Debbie. Her head spun, and darkness claimed her as she collapsed.
Patricia couldn't help but snicker to herself. Such wasted talent in deception.
Martin was displeased with Randy's bluntness and scolded him, "Randy, that's your aunt. You shouldn't speak to her like that."
"Hmph! She's trying to take my dad away. I don't like her!" Randy retorted, his little chin defiantly raised.
Martin sighed, giving Randy a stern look before turning to Debbie, lifting her gently, "Debbie, are you alright? Speak to me..."
Patricia, with a sly smirk, quickly offered, "I'm a doctor. Lay her down, I'll examine her."
Martin, trusting her, laid Debbie down.
Patricia conducted a quick check-up and announced, "She's passed out from distress. Nothing serious. I'll give her a holistic remedy."
"Holistic remedy?" Martin questioned, confused.
"I taught myself!" Patricia boasted, pulling out her kit.
Debbie, though unconscious, tensed up. Her fingers twitched.
Patricia watched her closely, a knowing smile on her lips. "I learned from books. I have a knack for it."
"Self-taught?" Martin was skeptical, considering a hospital but not wanting to offend Patricia.
"Even if I haven't practiced much, finding the right spots should be easy. If I'm wrong, I'll just adjust," Patricia said as she leaned in to whisper to Debbie, "I know you're faking. Dare to keep it up, and see what happens when your true colors show."
Debbie's heart pounded with fury.
Curious, Randy approached, "What's this remedy? Can I learn?"
"Sure, you can help. Just be careful," Patricia instructed, handing him a syringe as she searched for the right spot on Debbie's body.
Martin watched, hesitant to interrupt.
As Debbie felt the syringe on her skin, panic set in. She couldn't be a test subject. But revealing her ruse now would ruin everything.
While she hesitated, Patricia indicated a spot to Randy, "Right here, insert it two-thirds deep."
Debbie knew the spot was wrong. A misplacement could be disastrous.
As the syringe pierced her skin, Debbie's fear overcame her, and she sat up abruptly, "I'm okay... No need to bother Patricia..."
But Randy's alarmed voice cut her off, "The syringe... it's..."
Debbie's heart raced, "Did it break inside me?"
Randy couldn't answer before Debbie, enraged, accused Patricia, "You did this on purpose! Letting a child hurt me. You wanted to harm me, didn't you? If I'm hurt, I'll drag you down with me."
Randy feigned shock.
"Debbie, weren't you unconscious? How'd you know it was me?" he said, feigning realization, "Were you pretending?"
Debbie seethed.
"So you knew and used it against me? Breaking the syringe intentionally? What are you teaching him, Patricia?"
"Enough!" Martin intervened.
Debbie, still fuming, tried to charge at Patricia but Martin held her back.
"Isn't this enough chaos?" he said.
Debbie, her eyes brimming with tears, turned to Martin, "They're ganging up on me! You have to defend me!"
Martin, his patience thin, stared icily at her.
"Think before you speak," he warned.
Debbie noticed the syringe on her arm, bent but intact.
She tried to smile at Martin, an awkward grimace. "I... I just..."
She stammered, then claimed, "The remedy worked! I woke up."
Patricia's lips thinned in disdain. "Do you think we're fools?"
Debbie, furious, pulled the syringe out, ran to Martin, and clung to him, weeping, "I'm telling the truth! Seeing you with Patricia broke me. You promised."
Patricia had enough of the melodrama. She took Randy's hand, "Let's have breakfast."
Randy resisted, "No, I want to watch over them."
Patricia, amused, coaxed him with the promise of treats, "You'll love my cooking. Let's make some for the hospital."
Their voices faded as they left, closing the door behind them.
