Chapter 578 The Kiss
Jade had one of the guys backed up against a high stool, gripping his collar and getting right in his face.
"Are you going to date her or what? Give me a straight answer!"
The guy was already sporting a cut on his forehead, the blood slowly seeping out, and here was Jade, pressing him for a commitment to Patricia.
"I... I guess..." the guy practically whispered, backed into a corner.
"Then swear it. Swear you'll be true to her, and if you ever stray, I'll be your worst nightmare. And if you leave this world before her, rest assured, I'll make sure you never rest in peace."
"Haunt... my rest..." The man shuddered, his complexion drained of color with dread. "But how can I promise to outlive her? Anything could happen, right? Life's full of unpredictable stuff."
Jade gave him a fierce shake. "No excuses. You promise right now, or else."
The guy was on the brink of breaking down, completely overpowered by Jade.
His buddies tried to step in, but Patricia had them pinned against the bar, nowhere to run.
"So, you think less of me 'cause I've got kids? What's the big deal about having kids, huh? Explain to me, what's so wrong about it?"
The two guys were squirming, their faces a mix of embarrassment and confusion.
"We don't think any less of you, really."
"You're amazing, both as a mother and a person. Truly amazing..."
But Patricia just kept hammering the same points home.
"So, you think less of me 'cause I've got kids? What's the big deal about having kids, huh? Explain to me, what's so wrong about it?"
The guys were at their wit's end, trapped in a loop with her.
They had just wanted to make small talk, not looking for trouble. But somehow, they'd landed in the middle of a minefield. Out of all the people in the place, why did they have to stumble upon these two?
Ryan was pretty sure if things kept up, these three guys were going to end up in tears. Despite being cornered, they hadn't once tried to fight back. Honestly, that took some patience.
Ryan had to stifle a chuckle, shaking his head as he stepped in to pry Patricia and Jade apart.
Jade was not having it, though. "No, let me at him. I need to make sure he's up for dating her. I won't rest until I get a 'yes.'"
The guys, now free, clutched their heads, looking at Ryan like he was their saving grace.
Ryan was blunt. "You guys still here? You're not seriously considering this dating talk, are you?"
It was like a get-out-of-jail-free card for them. They didn't need to be told twice, scooting out of there as fast as they could.
Jade tried to go after them, but Ryan held her back, losing his cool. "Cut it out, Jade! Martin's barely gone, and here you are, already playing matchmaker for Patricia. You've got some nerve."
Jade, missing the point entirely, just grinned and gave herself a self-congratulatory pat on the back. "Exactly, that's me, loyal to the core. Patricia can't be left on her own. I'll find her someone perfect, just you wait."
Patricia, touched by Jade's declaration, pulled her into a tight hug. "Jade, you're the best. Really..."
Ryan tried to wrangle them both, but they were like glue, inseparable. He was the one left worn out in the end.
"Friends forever," they chanted in unison, lost in their drunken revelry.
Ryan, at his wit's end, dialed Alan. "Hey, we've got a situation. Patricia's plastered, and so is Jade. I'm out of my depth with these two. Drunk women are a whole other level of difficult."
He was right. If those three guys couldn't handle them, what chance did he stand alone?
After the call, Ryan just watched them, hands on hips, gasping for air, as Jade and Patricia continued their antics.
His buddies stepped in, ready to lend a hand, but Ryan waved them off.
"I've got backup on the way. You guys head out. I'll keep an eye on them."
But really, the thought of any other guy getting too close to Patricia was a no-go for him. He could almost hear Martin giving him a piece of his mind from beyond.
And Jade? Uh… well, he just didn't want her giving his friends a hard time. No hidden agendas here. Really.
So, his friends took off, leaving him to it.
Alan showed up not long after, finding Patricia in tears, clinging to Jade, who had this odd grin on her face.
Ryan was drenched in sweat. "You're just in time. They've been on this rollercoaster of laughs and tears. Any minute now, they'll crack up again. You'd think they were losing it."
Alan couldn't help but feel for Ryan.
Ryan laid out the plan. "We've got to split them up. It's like they're superglued together."
"Got it," Alan agreed, gearing up for the task.
He went for Patricia, while Ryan tackled Jade. It took everything they had, but they finally pried them apart.
The separation was met with dramatic protests.
"Don't split us up..."
"I wanna stay with Jade..."
It sounded like a tragic farewell.
Ryan was at his wit's end. "Let's get out of here. I've had it with this drama!"
He vowed to steer clear of that bar in the future, too much hassle.
Alan, feeling equally awkward, just nodded, and they made their escape.
Alan hurried Patricia into his car parked right outside the bar and took off.
Ryan, on the other hand, had his car parked a bit further in the lot. Supporting Jade, he made his way there, with her chattering nonstop as they stumbled along.
