Chapter 737 Bid Farewell to Him

When the three of them got back to Silver Birch Sanctuary, it was already evening, and the crematorium had closed for the day.

Martin and Patricia were worried that bringing Hunter's brother back might cause trouble, so they decided to crash at a hotel for the night.

Once the sedative wore off, Hunter started to calm down. He seemed to have forgotten his earlier outburst and gave Patricia a goofy smile, drool trickling from the corner of his mouth.

Seeing his innocent yet foolish face, Patricia felt a mix of emotions she couldn't tell exactly.

She pulled out a tissue and wiped the drool from his mouth, "Is your name Hunter?"

Hunter nodded like a kid, "Patricia, Sister Patricia."

Hearing him call her that, Patricia's eyes welled up. It was the Hunter she knew.

Only Hunter would call her "Sister Patricia."

When they were kids, she always called him "Brother Hunter," and he always called her "Sister Patricia."

How could she have forgotten such a special nickname?

The first time she met him again, she didn't even notice anything strange about the way he addressed her.

Seeing Patricia cry, Hunter got flustered and clumsily tried to wipe her tears, but he pressed too hard and made the corners of her eyes red.

Patricia didn't cry for pain and let him continue.

She asked, "Are you Brother Hunter?"

She still couldn't believe it and needed one last confirmation.

Hunter didn't answer, his brows furrowed, and he said nervously, "Sister Patricia, don't be scared. I will protect you, Brother Hunter will protect you."

Even though he answered incoherently, Patricia was now sure he was the real Hunter.

The Hunter who had looked after her since they were kids.

Tears streamed down her face out of control.

Patricia hugged Hunter tightly and cried out, "Brother Hunter, what happened to you? Why are you like this now?"

When they parted over a decade ago, Hunter was perfectly fine.

Why did he go mad?

If he was the real Hunter, then who was the one who died?

Was he Hunter's twin brother, Gabriel?

Why did Gabriel tell Martin before he died that Hunter changed like this because of Patricia?

Patricia was sure she hadn't seen Hunter since they parted over a decade ago.

A dying man's words could be true.

Gabriel probably wasn't lying.

But Patricia really hadn't harmed Hunter!

What on earth was going on?

Seeing Patricia cried, Hunter got even more panicked and kept patting her back, "Sister Patricia, don't cry. Don't cry. Brother Hunter will protect you."

Martin, who had just finished running their bathwater and came out of the bathroom, saw them hugging each other.

Though he felt a bit bad, seeing them cried so sorrowfully, he touched his nose and quietly turned back to the bedroom.

Patricia knew she couldn't get the truth from the real Hunter.

She was also afraid that saying something might hurt Hunter again, so she decided not to ask anything for now.

Everything could wait until they got back to Sunset Bay.

She didn't even know if Hunter's illness could be cured.

Patricia said, "Brother Hunter, it's late. You should rest early. Tomorrow, I'll take you to see Gabriel."

Hunter held Patricia's hand, looking at her reluctantly, "I'm not sleepy. I'm scared. I don't want to be away from Sister Patricia. I want Sister Patricia to stay with me."

"Well..." Patricia hesitated a bit.

Even though Hunter's mind was like that of a child, he was still a man.

It wasn't exactly appropriate for them to be alone together.

But Hunter wouldn't let her go.

Patricia couldn't bear to refuse him and said slowly, "Alright, I won't leave. I'll stay in the living room with you. If you need anything, just call my name."

"No," Hunter pouted and refused.

Patricia rubbed his head, "Come on, be good! How about I let Martin stay with you? I'll be right outside."

Hunter wanted to refuse again, but Patricia didn't give him the chance, "Brother Hunter, be good! Sister Patricia likes obedient kids!"

Hearing this, Hunter immediately closed his mouth and didn't dare to say anything more.

That night, Martin stayed with Hunter in the bedroom.

Hunter slept on the bed, and Martin took the sofa.

Patricia slept on the sofa outside.

Even though they had booked two presidential suites, they used just one.

The next day.

The cremation was set at eleven o'clock.

Patricia and Martin brought Hunter to the crematorium early.

Before leaving, they made sure he took his medication.

Since Gabriel had no relatives, there was no grand funeral, and no guests came to see him off.

Hunter was scared and held Patricia's hand tightly.

Maybe because he had been confined at home or in a mental hospital for too long, Hunter was very timid, always hiding behind Patricia, head down, trembling in fear.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here! I won't let anyone bully you again." Patricia held Hunter's hand tightly, carefully protecting and comforting him, just like he used to protect and comfort her when they were kids.

Although Hunter was scared, he was still obedient.

Gabriel's body lay quietly in the ice coffin, covered with a white cloth.

Patricia brought Hunter to the ice coffin.

Hunter kept his head down and didn't look at the ice coffin.

Patricia asked Martin to contact the pallbearers and go over the procedures with them.

After Martin left, Patricia reached out and opened the ice coffin.

The moment the ice coffin was opened, Hunter seemed to sense something, his body trembled, and he slowly looked at the ice coffin, nervously twisting the hem of his clothes.

Patricia reached out again and slowly removed the white cloth covering Gabriel, revealing Gabriel's pale face.

When Hunter saw the person lying in the ice coffin, he couldn't hold back any longer and burst into tears, holding Gabriel's face in his hands, tears falling like broken pearls onto Gabriel's face.

Hunter said, "Gabriel, Gabriel, Gabriel, what's wrong with you?"

But Gabriel didn't respond at all.

Hunter completely broke down, leaning over the ice coffin and tightly hugging Gabriel.

Hunter said, "Gabriel, don't leave me. I'll be good, I'll be obedient. I won't make you angry anymore. Gabriel, don't leave me. I can't live without you."

Patricia was moved by his sorrowful cries and couldn't help but tear up.

She placed her hand on Hunter's shoulders and choked up, "Brother Hunter, I brought you from Country M to let you see him one last time. Don't worry, I will take good care of you from now on."

Hunter used to protect her.

Now and in the future, it was her turn to protect Hunter.

The Miller family had disappeared since the Miller Group went bankrupt. No one knew if they were dead or alive.

Hunter's only relative, Gabriel, was also dead.

If she didn't take care of him, he would truly have no way out.

But Hunter seemed unable to hear Patricia's words, clutching Gabriel's collar and shaking him desperately, "Wake up, wake up."

As he spoke, he kept slapping Gabriel's face.

But no matter how much he cried or hit, Gabriel had no response.
