Chapter 984 Charles is Here

Seeing Stella blocking the door, some folks started to get riled up.

"Hey lady, don't push it. A side chick stealing someone else's man is naturally gonna get hate. What's wrong with us trying to set things right?"

"Exactly! If she didn't want this, she shouldn't have done it. She had to know this day would come."

"She even got plastic surgery to look like someone else just to steal a boyfriend. That's low. She deserves a little payback. Today’s just a warning."

"Are you sticking up for her 'cause you're a side chick too? I bet you're no better."

Hearing all this, Stella couldn't help but laugh.

With tears streaming down her face, she was crying and laughing at the same time, which weirdly made everyone a bit uneasy.

"Who told you that crap?" Stella said, pointing the knife at Violet, "That bitch told you? Hannah's always looked like this. She didn't need surgery to look like anyone. You keep saying that jerk is my cousin. No one knows their situation better than me. Yeah, she grew up with Charles, but she vanished seven years ago, and he's been searching for her ever since. How many guys would stay single for seven years for a missing girlfriend? Charles did everything he could for her. Does he have to stay single forever? I felt bad for him and saw that Hannah looked a lot like her, so I introduced them. What's wrong with that? Charles didn't fall for Hannah right away. They got to know each other and developed feelings over time. Charles finally moved on from his past and got with Hannah, and now she comes back. Tell me, is Hannah a mistress?"

Hearing this, everyone's faces got all complicated.

Some folks didn't want to admit they were wrong and kept arguing.

"That's just your story. There's no proof. I think you're just making stuff up to protect her."

"Yeah, you guys are friends, so of course, you'd defend her."

"Move out of the way, or we'll call the cops! You're holding a knife and hurting people, so you'll get arrested."

"There are so many of us here. Do you think you alone can stop us?"

Stella found it hilarious and really laughed.

Her laughter was dripping with sarcasm.

Stella mocked, "And aren't you all just listening to Violet's side of the story? She says Charles is her boyfriend, so he is? What proof does she have?"

Someone pulled out photos taken by the private detective Violet hired. "This is the proof."

Stella glanced at the photos, her eyes filled with even more sarcasm, like she was looking at a bunch of fools.

Stella said, "Just a few photos? How do these prove she's Charles' girlfriend? You idiots. None of you who hurt Hannah today will get away with it. Just wait. Charles won't let you off."

She didn't want to explain any further.

Saying one more word to these idiots made her feel dumb.

Seeing things going south, Violet, clutching her bleeding arm where Stella had cut her, stepped out from the crowd, glaring at Stella and gritting her teeth. "Don't listen to her. They're in this together. Of course, she'd defend this mistress. There are more of us. Let's rush her, take the knife, and drag this mistress out. We need to teach her a lesson today, or she might go after your husbands or boyfriends next."

But despite her words, no one dared to move.

Especially with the blood still dripping from the knife in Stella's hand, they were even more hesitant.

Mistresses were despicable, but they weren't the victims here.

They were willing to help as long as it didn't put them in harm's way.

Once it got personal, no one wanted to get involved.

Blocking the door was one thing.

Seeing no one moving, Violet started shouting like a madwoman, "Go! That bitch is a mistress. She stole my boyfriend and deserves to die."

At that moment, the store was dead quiet, and her voice echoed loudly.

The glass door of the store had a big gap in the middle, so her words were all heard by Charles, who had just arrived.

Charles, holding Shirley's hand, stood at the store entrance. The first thing he saw was the backs of Stella and Hannah.

He recognized Hannah's back instantly, his brows furrowing.

Charles thought, 'Why is Hannah wearing Stella's clothes? Why are people surrounding them?'

Charles, holding Shirley's hand, gently pushed the glass door from outside.

Feeling someone pushing from behind, Stella turned to look.

Many people had tried to come in earlier, but she had stopped them.

Seeing it was Charles standing outside, her tense nerves finally relaxed, and the tears she had managed to hold back started falling again.

She turned around and opened the door for Charles, and before he could react, she started crying.

Her cries were full of grievance, and she kept hitting Charles' chest. "Where were you? Why didn't you answer the phone? Do you know how many times I called you? Why didn't you answer?"

Charles didn't hear what she was saying at all, because from the moment he entered, his eyes hadn't left Hannah.

Hannah was beaten so badly that her original appearance was unrecognizable, with injuries on her forehead and blood all over her face.

Her hair was wet, dripping water.

He reached out his trembling hand, wanting to hold her.

Hannah, like a frightened rabbit, kept retreating, her face full of fear. "No, I'm not a mistress."

Seeing her like this, Charles felt like his heart was being ripped out, bleeding profusely.

Shirley, seeing her like this, ran over and hugged her waist, crying worriedly, "Hannah, what's wrong? How did you end up like this? Who did this to you? I'll make them pay."

Hannah didn't speak, her eyes unfocused, repeatedly muttering the same words, "I'm not a mistress."

Charles wasn't stupid. Seeing Hannah's current state and recalling what he had just heard, he immediately understood what had happened. His eyes swept over everyone present, finally landing on Stella.

Charles said angrily, "Tell me, what happened? Why is Hannah like this?"

Stella pointed at everyone present, gritting her teeth. "It was them. They said Hannah was a mistress, so they beat her like this and wanted to strip her and throw her onto the street. If I hadn't arrived in time, Hannah would probably have been beaten to death by them."
