Chapter 1052 Hannah asked Lassie, "Are you my mother?"
When the item in Austin's hand fell to the ground, Lassie just glanced at it in surprise and didn't think much of it.
The other person said something, and she immediately laughed happily. "Yes, although I haven't seen Hannah many times, I quite like her! Besides, this time she was kidnapped because of Violet! I should go see her, both emotionally and logically."
"Okay! You take good care of Hannah! Carter has Austin and me here, so don't worry."
"Alright! I'll keep in touch with you if anything comes up."
After ending the call, Lassie placed the phone on the bedside table, then got up and walked over to Austin. She bent down to pick up the takeout that had fallen to the ground and asked with concern, "Austin, what's wrong? Is there something going on at the lab again? If the professor needs you, just go! I can handle your dad by myself."
Austin didn't answer Lassie's question, avoiding her gaze as he walked into the ward. As he walked, he asked, "Who were you talking to just now?"
Lassie followed him, walked to the bedside table, and opened the packaging, taking out the packed bowls one by one. "It was Ryan! They found Hannah. So they haven't had time to come over these past few days!"
Austin lowered his eyes, rolling them where Lassie couldn't see. "They found Hannah? When did that happen? How did they find her? Wasn't it said that there was no news for over four months?"
Lassie didn't suspect him, opening the lid of the packed bowl and handing one to Austin, along with a pair of disposable utensils.
Her hands didn't stop moving as she continued to answer Austin's questions. "He didn't go into detail, just said that the person who took Hannah tried to escape by smuggling, and they caught them at the dock. Although Hannah was frightened, she was safely rescued."
Austin's eyes suddenly turned cold. "They caught them on the spot?"
Lassie started eating and said while eating, "Yes! I heard it was quite dangerous at the time. That person tried to escape by jumping into the sea with Hannah, but fortunately, Charles is a good swimmer and quickly caught up with them."
Austin held the food in his hand. The food was still hot. But his heart sank, leaving him feeling cold.
Even though he didn't see it with his own eyes, just thinking about the dangerous scene made him realize how perilous it must have been. His palms were sweating profusely.
"What about the person who tried to escape with Hannah? Did they catch them too?"
If they caught Tina, Charles would definitely know she was the doctor treating Violet. Would the phone he used to contact Tina fall into Charles's hands? Did Tina delete their chat history?
With Charles's skills, he would eventually track him down through his chat history with Tina.
Lassie said, "Of course! They caught them on the spot, and now they're being held at the police station!"
Austin absentmindedly put a bite of food into his mouth. "Did that person say anything?"
Probably not! If she had, Charles would have come looking for him by now. He wouldn't be so at ease.
Lassie shook her head. "I don't know. This matter can't be explained in a few words, so I didn't ask much. I thought I'd ask when I go see Hannah later. Ryan only said it was a woman, and didn't say much else. I guess even he doesn't know the details."
Austin instantly lost his appetite. The food in his mouth tasted like wax. He finished the meal absentmindedly.
Lassie noticed his distraction while eating. "Austin, what's wrong? Why do you seem so distracted? Is something wrong? Tell me, don't make me worry."
Austin said, "Mom, I'm fine! I'll stay here and take care of Dad. I know you feel guilty about Hannah because of Violet! You go see her first, I'll handle things here."
Lassie looked at him, a bit worried. "But... you... you look like this."
Austin forced a smile. "I'm fine! The professor asked me to write a paper, and I'm just thinking about how to write it! You go see Hannah, I brought my laptop, I can write the paper while taking care of Dad."
Hearing his explanation, Lassie felt relieved. "Why don't you go back to the hotel to write? This is a hospital, it's too noisy!"
Austin smiled. "It's fine, this is a VIP ward, it's very quiet! Besides, it's not a particularly difficult paper, I can handle it! You go see Hannah! Say hi to her for me."
Seeing his insistence, Lassie had to agree. "Alright then! You stay here and watch your dad, I'll go see Hannah."
After saying that, Lassie cleaned up the takeout boxes on the bedside table, put them in a bag, and took them out to throw in the trash can.
Austin sat in the chair, his laptop on the bedside table. His hands were on the keyboard, trying to write the paper, but his mind was blank, with no ideas at all.
After a while, he started staring at the computer in a daze.
Time passed by. He didn't know how long it had been, but he hadn't written a single word.
Because Hannah was now in a hospital in First Mountain City. It would take Lassie a long time to get there and back.
By the time she arrived at the hospital in First Mountain City, it was completely dark.
After resting for a few hours, Hannah woke up. Ryan and Martin were not surprised at all by Lassie's arrival.
Martin politely said, "It's so late now, you could have come tomorrow! It's not safe to travel at night."
Lassie placed the bouquet she was holding on the bedside table and smiled. "I couldn't wait to see Hannah!"
Saying that, she sat by the bed, held Hannah's hand, and gently asked, "Hannah, how are you feeling? Is there anywhere uncomfortable?"
Hannah tilted her head to look at the gentle woman in front of her, and for some reason, she felt an indescribable warmth in her heart. "Who are you? Do I know you?"
Lassie was stunned for a moment and looked at Charles in surprise.
Charles rubbed his temples. "It's a long story!" He meant that now was not the time to talk about it. They would talk later.
Lassie understood the implication and didn't ask further.
Hannah looked at Lassie, not rejecting her touch at all, and felt that her hand was very warm, just like her mother's hand.
Although she no longer remembered what her mother's hand felt like. But she inexplicably had this feeling. "Are you my mother?"
As soon as she said this, everyone present was stunned.
