Chapter 832 Charles's Suspicion

"Hannah?" Carter shook his head, looking confused. "Who the heck is Hannah?"

Charles ignored him and kept pressing, "You know if he's got a girlfriend around here?"

Carter's eyes lit up, thinking he was onto something. "Wait, does he have a girlfriend? Is it that Hannah chick you just mentioned? You know if he's seeing someone? Did you meet her? Spill the tea, man! What's Hannah do? How old is she? Are they a good match?"

Charles just looked puzzled.

Carter kept rambling, "You don't get it. Since Violet vanished, he hasn't had any girls around. Now that he's got a girlfriend, I'm stoked. Most guys his age have had a few girlfriends, but not him. Knowing he's got someone now, I'm really happy. Gotta find some time to visit and surprise him."

Charles just twitched his mouth.

Seriously, when did Carter start talking as much as Ryan?

Carter was about to ask more about Hannah, but Charles cut him off, "If you don't know her, let's just drop it!"

He was ready to hang up.

He got what he needed, no point in dragging it out.

Carter, sensing the end of the call, quickly shouted, "Charles!"

Charles raised an eyebrow, "Yeah?"

Carter sounded worried, "Charles, I know you don't like Austin, but he's my son. Even though you're not his real brother, I treated you like my own back then! If you can, check on him for me, see if he needs anything, and help him out! Austin's been on his own since he was a kid. Ever since he went abroad, I haven't sent him a dime, and he never asked! He's been working and getting scholarships. It's tough, man. He's so young, and it breaks my heart thinking about him alone out there. I'm begging you."

Charles couldn't say no and softly replied, "If he hasn't done anything shady, I'll look out for him. I'll visit him when I can."

But if Austin had messed up, Charles wouldn't hold back. Carter assured, "He's always been a good kid, never gave Daisy and me any trouble! He wouldn't do anything bad."

Charles didn't want to say more until things were clear. After a bit more chatting, he hung up.

After the call, he pulled out his phone, found Hannah's number, and his fingers hovered over the digits. In the end, he didn't call.

He needed to stay cool.

No need to complicate things.

Meanwhile, Austin didn't want Charles finding out about him and Hannah, so he took her to a restaurant far away.

He ordered all her favorite dishes.

Looking at the spread, Hannah sighed, "Even after all these years in Country D, I still love this food! Can't stand the stuff in Country D."

Austin laughed, "But you're a Country D citizen now!"

Hannah stuck out her tongue playfully, "I don't know what my parents were thinking. Sunset Bay was perfect! Why'd we have to move here?"

Austin gave her a serious look, "Your dad got a job transfer! When he moved, you all had to follow."

Hannah nodded, "Yeah, no choice there. I just wish we could move back someday. That's where I was born. It'd be awesome to go back."

Austin's eyes darkened at the thought.

He said, "You know, after we get married, I'm staying here."

To give Hannah a good future, he had already started his own business.

Even though he was the only son of the Moore family, he wasn't their biological kid. Besides Violet, he didn't want anything that wasn't his.

As for the revenge his biological mom talked about, he couldn't do it. He couldn't go against Carter, who raised him, for a dad he never met.

Taking Violet away and making Carter and Lassie feel that pain, he still felt guilty.

So, he would never hurt Carter and Lassie again.

Hannah focused on her food and replied, "I know! Don't worry, I'm just venting. As long as I'm with you and my parents, I can stay here."

Hearing this, Austin finally relaxed.

After Hannah finished eating, he held her hand and apologized, "Hannah, I'm sorry about last night. I was too jealous. Seeing another guy hold your wrist made me mad, and I said some bad stuff. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"

Hannah didn't expect him to apologize, and her eyes teared up, "I was wrong too. I shouldn't have hidden my internship from you. You had every right to be angry! But I really like this job. Can I finish it? I'll quit when school starts."

Austin knew that forcing her to quit would only push her away.

Rather than pushing her towards Charles, it was better to agree to her internship.

Austin agreed, "Okay! If you want to continue your internship, go ahead! I support you! I know you've always been independent. As your fiancé, I support you."

Seeing him finally agree, Hannah was overjoyed.

She said happily, "You really agree? Austin, I knew you were the best! Trust me, I'll quit when school starts! I'll work hard and prove myself to you."

Austin tried to keep smiling and not show his displeasure.

He added, "But you have to promise me one thing."

Hannah readily agreed, "Just say it. As long as you let me intern, I'll agree to anything."

Austin said, "You must keep your distance from Charles. Besides work, no private meetings or meals."

This wasn't an unreasonable request, so Hannah didn't hesitate and immediately raised her hand to promise, "I promise, besides work, no private contact with Mr. Watson."

Seeing her agree so quickly, Austin breathed a slight sigh of relief.

He said, "You absolutely cannot break this promise."

Hannah nodded vigorously, "I definitely won't break this promise."

Austin's smile deepened, but there was no warmth in his eyes.
