Chapter 312 Setting Up Martin and Eva

Patricia turned at the sound of Eva's voice.

There, Eva was triumphantly pullinged out two braided red cord bracelets from the pocket of her white coat. "What do you think? PrettyThey're pretty, aren't they?" she beamed.

Martin's gaze drifted to Patricia, offering an indifferent nod,. "Yeah, pretty."

Oblivious to his disinterest, Eva's smile widened, oblivious to his disinterest. "I made these myself! One'sOne each for you, and I'll give the other to Randy."

She tried to press one into Martin's hand, but he strode past her, approaching Patricia with a gentle concern,. "Did you sleep well last night?"

After several days of rest, Patricia's complexion had noticeably improved, and some color returninged to her previously pallid cheeks.

Patricia's eyes darted around guiltily, avoiding his direct stare. "I slept great! I need to check in with the director, so I can't chat right now."

"Alright, I'll catch up with you later."

," Martin seemed to besaid in high spirits, his tone more buoyant than usual.

With a quick nod, Patricia beat a hasty retreat.

Eva moved closer to Martin, her eyes gleaming with envy,. "You're so goodnice to ProfessorDr. Watson. I really admire that."

A smile involuntarily tugged at the corners of Martin's mouth; he didn't deny her remark.

Eva handed the bracelet back to Martin, pressing on, "I made these with my own handsmyself, one for you and one for Randy. RedI chose red for the cords are lucky;because they it ward off evil. I chose this color very carefullyrepresents good luck."

"I..." Martin began, about to decline.

Catching his intent,"I—"

"No refusing," she cut him offsaid, "No refusing."catching his intent.

"I..." He frowned, as he attemptedattempting to give the bracelet back, but Eva put on a stern face, feigning annoyance,. "Don't forget, I saved your life. Is this how you treat your savior?"

Martin was  speechless, "? ?".

Worried he might still refuse, Eva gave him no further opportunitysaid, "I have to get to work. I'll catch you and Randy later!"

With that, sheShe waved her hand and scurried away.

Martin looked down at the red bracelets lying calmly inon his palm, took a deep breath, and tucked one into his pocket before heading back to the hospital room to hand the other to Randy.

Unexpecting to receive a gift from his dad, Randy's face lit up as heupon receiving a gift from his daddy. He slipped the bracelet onto his wrist, admiring it from all angles.

The more he looked, the more he liked it. The more he liked it, the more it grew on him.

He was head over heels in love with it.

"Daddy, did Charles and Fannie get one too?"

Martin dropped onto the couch with a poker face. "Nope!"

Randy's face screwed up in confusion. "Why did you only get one for me and not for them? Daddy, that's not fair."

Pulling out his phone, Martin flipped through the emails. Alan had sent some documents early that morning. He seemed distracted as he responded, "The lady made that bracelet by hand just for you yesterday."

The smile on Randy's face froze solid.

What moments agohe had been so cherished nowmoments ago seemed to prick at him now, and he swiftly pulled the bracelet off, tossing it to the floor.

"I don't want her stuff."," he said.

Martin paused from scrolling through the documents and frowned at him, clearly displeased. "Randy, that was a kind gesture. Even if you don't like it, don't trashchuck it."

Randy instantly sensed something was off.

"Daddy, you're different with her."

Martin's attention shifted back to his phone.

"How so?"

Randy voiced his direct thoughts.

"When Debbie was your fiancée, you never scolded me over her. Today, you're taking herBut today, you took this lady's side and gettinggot mad at me."

It was evident—this woman held a special place in his daddy's heart.

Martin, without concealment, replied while still reviewing the material: "Yes, it's different because she's done me a favor."," Martin replied while reviewing the material.

He didn't like being in anybody's debt.

So,, so he had to figure out a way to repay her for saving his life.

Then, they'd be even.

Randy stared at him, puzzled. "What favor?"

Martin replied, "You're too young to understand, even if I explained. ," Martin said. "Just be nicer to her from now on. You don't have to like her, but don't give her the cold shoulder. She doesn't owe you anything."

Randy's eyes widened in disbelief; he could hardly fathom his father lecturing him because of a woman.

Little did they know, their entire exchange had been overheard by that Patricia, who was about to domake her rounds, had overheard their entire exchange.

She stood silently atby the door, her eyes brimming with warmth, a myriad of feeling hot; pinpricks of pain blossomedspread across her chest, as if countless needles were piercing her heart.

Fearing that entering now would betray her presence, she turned away, heading and headed to the next patient's room, a tear trickling down her cheek.

A single tear trickled down her cheek as she turned.

After finishing her rounds, Patricia filled out a pre-surgery checklist for Randy.

If all the tests came back normal, his second surgery would follow in three days.

Frank hoelds clinic sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, made rounds in the inpatient department on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and takesrested on Sundays off to rest.

To ensure Randy's surgery was successful, theyThey arranged for Frank, a top-notch surgeon, to assist with the second operation, hoping to spare Randy to ensure Randy's surgery was successful, sparing him from a third.

After wrapping up her tasks, Patricia breathed a sigh of relief and stretched languidly.

Before she could fully relax, someone handed her a steaming cup of water was handed to her.

A sweet smile . A smiling face then appeared before her eyes.

"ProfessorDr. Watson, you must be tired! Have some tea and relax," came the cheerful offer.

Patricia blinked in surprise, "?" she blurted, caught off-guard.

!" Eva blushed, said cheerfully.

Patricia jumped, blinking in surprise.

"Sorry, ProfessorDr. Watson. I didn't mean to startle you. My friend calls me 'overly social'," she admittedoverly social," Eva said, blushing, somewhat embarrassed. "I mean well, and you'll get used to it soon."

Moved by Eva's sparkling eyes, Patricia's resolve melted. under Eva's sparkling eyes. She accepted the water and took a small sip.

Eva pulled up a stool with familiarity, trying to ingratiate herself, "Professorand sat close. "Dr. Watson, you're pretty close with Martin, aren't youright?"

Gladys, who was eavesdropping, let out a disdainful snort and said sarcastically,

snorted disdainfully. "Close? More like 'very' close!"

Patricia gave her aan expressionless look that was devoid of any emotion.

Chagrined, Gladys retreated, kicking a chair away in frustration as she stormed out.

Eva was confused,. "What's her problem? Does she not like me or something?"

Patricia forced a smile,. "Don't mind her; that's just how she is."

Eva nodded, steering the conversation back to Martin, then said, "Since you're so close to himMartin, you must know what he likes, right?"

Patricia paused, her breath hitching,. "What are you planning?"

Eva grinned, her eyes crinkling with enthusiasm,. "I want to win his heart, of course!

He's a tough nut to crack –. I have no idea where to begin."

Patricia could only respond with a puzzled, "??" look.

Eva was now boldly seeking advice from his ex-wife on how to woo her former husband.

She was likely the first to ever do such a thing.

Eva linked her arm with Patricia's and gently swayed it, pleading adorably, "Professor. "Dr. Watson, you know him so well, given your past. Could you please help me? If I manage to win him over, I'll definitely treat you to something nice."

Patricia's heart ached so much that she couldn't even muster a polite, professional, insincere smile.

It pierced her heart to admit it, but the truth was inescapable.

Eva was simply a better match for Martin.

She was pure and, kind, full of life, and utterly adorable - —a true darling that anyone would love.

As for herself, a womanHow could someone like her, who had lost her innocence, how could she ever compete?

Perhaps the best way to repay Martin was to find him a wife more deserving of him—.
