Chapter 762 Hunter Returned to Normal

Martin ripped open another part of Hunter's clothes.

That spot had been scratched by Sebastian before, but there wasn't a scar in sight.

Joe felt dizzy, his legs buckling as he collapsed into a chair. The chair wobbled violently from his sudden movement.

Carol, worried he might fall, rushed over to steady the chair, "Dad! This isn't the Hunter who killed my brother! Don't you remember how strange he seemed when you caught him? He's got the mind of a child! He can't handle stress without going nuts and needing tranquilizers! Billy cared about me so much! His death broke my heart too. If this guy really killed my brother, I'd want to kill him, not help him! Patricia said the Hunter who killed Billy is actually his twin. Something happened between them, and they switched places. The fake Hunter did all those horrible things, killed so many innocent people. He even burned down the psych hospital where his twin brother was! Over two hundred innocent people died. A monster like that doesn't deserve to live, even if he dies a hundred times. But the real Hunter is innocent! I don't want you to spare my brother's killer, but I don't want you to kill an innocent man either." Tears streamed down her face.

Carol swallowed hard, bent down, and hugged Joe, crying uncontrollably, "Since Billy's death, our family has fallen apart! Joe, I don't want this. I don't want you to divorce Susan! Even though Billy is gone, you still have me. I can take care of you in his place! I'll find a husband willing to join our family, and our kids will carry our name."

Just as Carol finished, Maximilian walked in. Hearing her last words, he froze.

Joe was overwhelmed by Carol's emotions, and the grief he'd been holding back finally burst out. He hugged Carol, and they cried together.

Joe cried, "Carol, I'm sorry! I've let you down, I've let Billy down, I've let Susan down! If I'd realized sooner that Billy was involved with that scum, I would've stopped it, and maybe this wouldn't have happened! I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If I could, I'd rather die for Billy. He was so young, with a bright future. His life had just begun. He hadn't married or had kids, hadn't experienced the joy of having a child. Maybe if I'd sent him abroad to study instead of leaving him in Country D, he wouldn't have met that scum Hunter, and he wouldn't have died unjustly. It's my fault, everything is my fault."

One mistake led to another, causing today's tragedy.

Carol knew how sad Joe and Susan had been. She was in pain too.

But what's done is done, and it couldn't be undone. Everything was already set in stone.

Carol said, "Dad, it's not your fault, really. It was Billy's fate to meet Hunter. Fate made them look alike. Everything seemed destined."

Otherwise, why would it be such a coincidence?

It felt like they were following a script.

Joe said, "No, I was wrong. I shouldn't have been soft on Hunter in the beginning. Whether he was my illegitimate son or not, I should have avenged Billy. I'm not a good father. I don't deserve Susan's forgiveness! Billy would blame me for this."

Joe was still drowning in self-blame.

Carol tried to comfort him, "No, he wouldn't blame you. Billy respected you so much. Even if he knew Hunter was your illegitimate son and you spared him, he wouldn't blame you! If Billy could see you now, he wouldn't want you to be sad and blaming yourself. Susan just needs time to process everything. She'll come around and forgive you. I'll help her see that, and we'll stay a family."

Carol's words seemed to comfort Joe.

He cried even harder, like a child, loud sobs and endless tears.

For the first time, Joe and Carol let out all the emotions they'd been bottling up for days.

After pouring out their pain, the weight on their chests seemed to lift.

Their sorrow touched everyone in the room.

Martin quietly stood up, watching Carol and Joe in silence.

Patricia cried, remembering Billy's death, feeling deeply sorrow.

Billy was so young and so smart.

He had started his own company at such a young age. If Billy were still alive, his future would have been so bright. He could have done great things in Country D with his talents. But now, he was gone, so young. He was also the only son of the Hill family. If it were Patricia in Joe's shoes, she probably couldn't recover after a setback.

Maximilian stood at the door, his gaze shifting between Joe and Carol, finally settling on Carol.

He pondered, 'Carol said she wanted to find a husband willing to join their family? Was that for real? Didn't she like me before? How could she change her mind so fast?'

Hearing Carol's words, he felt sad and even had the urge to pull Carol aside and have a talk with her. But he knew now wasn't the time.

After dealing with Hunter, he'd definitely have a serious talk with Carol and ask if her feelings for him were real!

Maximilian quickly picked himself up and went over to untie Hunter.

After being untied, Hunter silently got up from the ground, his eyes slightly red. He didn't say a word, just stood there, staring blankly ahead.

Patricia didn't notice anything unusual about Hunter. She walked over, took his arm, and asked with concern, "Hunter, are you okay?"

Hunter stayed silent, his gaze fixed straight ahead, his eyes empty, lost in thought.

Maximilian said to Patricia, "Leave this to me. You guys take him away!"

Patricia nodded, took out her phone, and sent the documents Riley had given her to Maximilian's phone.

Patricia said, "These are Hunter's death certificate and cremation authorization, along with the surveillance video of him being cremated! These prove that Gabriel, the killer of Billy, is truly dead! This guy here is just Gabriel's twin brother. Hunter is innocent. He's been in a psychiatric hospital for years because of mental issues and has never hurt anyone."

Maximilian gently patted Hunter's shoulder, "I get it! You guys go ahead. I'll handle things here!"

"Okay!" Patricia nodded, supporting Hunter's arm as they left.

Throughout the ordeal, Hunter never spoke another word, his eyes vacant, leading Patricia away as if in a daze. Everyone thought he was just in shock.
