Chapter 811 Support
Charles strolled into the department, giving everyone a once-over as he made his way in.
As he got closer, everyone immediately dropped their heads and held their breath.
Even though Gordon usually strutted around like a peacock in front of Hannah, he turned into a mouse in front of Charles. Trying to butter him up, he said, "Charles, need anything? Or did we mess something up?"
Charles just stared at him, not saying a word.
Gordon had no clue what Charles was thinking.
'What's he doing here today?' Gordon wondered.
When Hannah saw Charles, she thought he must be a good guy since he took her home last night and didn't even get mad when she puked on him.
Since he was a good guy, he'd definitely have her back.
"Charles, I wanna report Gordon for trying to use his position to get with an employee. Last night's dinner was supposed to welcome a new colleague, but really, he just wanted to get me drunk and sleep with me. When he failed, he got the whole department to gang up on me and force me out today."
Gordon didn't even flinch. Instead, he smirked and said, "Hannah, you got it all wrong! I was just excited to have a new colleague, so I suggested dinner. You couldn't handle your booze and got wasted. I tried to help you out, and now you're accusing me? I've got integrity, and everyone here knows it! Charles is smart; he won't buy your story."
As he finished, the other colleagues chimed in.
"Charles, Gordon's telling the truth. We all got drunk last night, not just Hannah. It wasn't on purpose."
"Yeah! We were just celebrating the new colleague and went overboard. Gordon, who’s used to socializing, can hold his liquor better. When he saw she hadn't come back from the restroom, he went to check on her. We didn't expect her to twist things like this; it's really unfair."
"We've worked with Gordon for ages and know him well! He's a great leader, nothing like what Hannah says."
"Since Hannah joined yesterday, she's been acting all high and mighty, not doing the tasks we gave her and causing trouble."
"Someone like Hannah isn't welcome here. Please, Charles, don't let her stay and cause more problems."
Hannah's hands shook as she pointed at them.
"You're lying! You didn't give me any work and deliberately isolated me! Yesterday, you all forced me to drink, and that's why I got drunk. You weren't drunk at all. You all ganged up on me."
Everyone put on their best innocent faces.
"We didn't! We really welcomed you; you're the one who bullied us."
"Yeah! Yesterday, I even poured you tea, trying to get to know you better, but you looked down on us."
"We know you have someone backing you, and we don't dare to offend you. But please don't twist the facts and wrong us."
Hannah was fuming, tears streaming down her face like a busted dam.
"It's you guys! You said I got in because of someone's help, looked down on me, ganged up on me, and now you're framing me. This is too much," she cried, her voice breaking. She turned to leave, unable to stay in this toxic place any longer.
She really wanted to work here, but...
But they were just too cruel.
Seeing her about to leave, everyone exchanged smug glances.
Finally, she was leaving!
This department was their turf. If Hannah wanted to stay, she had to play nice, and she had the nerve to complain to Charles.
Just when everyone thought they had finally driven her away, Charles grabbed her arm as she walked past him.
Hannah didn't look back, still sobbing, "Why are you holding me? They're too much. Since they can't accept me, why should I stay?"
Gordon quickly chimed in, "Charles, her character really isn't a fit here. Even though we're short-staffed, we can't just hire anyone! Please tell HR to screen candidates more carefully and check their qualifications."
The others echoed, "Yeah! Our work affects the company's image; we can't afford mistakes. Not just anyone can do it."
"She's just a freshman. Her education and work experience don't qualify her to stay here."
"Even though we're willing to teach her, her attitude is bad, and she's not willing to learn. We can't help her."
They all made it sound like Hannah was the problem.
Hannah's social circle was small.
She never expected people at work to be like this.
She couldn't adapt quickly and cried until her neck turned red.
She knew she couldn't outtalk them.
Since she couldn't outtalk them, she could only hide.
"You'll all get what's coming to you one day!" Hannah said.
She tried to pull her hand out of Charles's grip to leave, but he held on tighter.
Charles took a couple of steps back, stood beside her, and said in a deep voice, "Leaving already?"
Hannah's face was a mess of tears, and she choked out, "What else? Stay and keep getting bullied by them?"
Seeing her so upset, Charles suddenly smiled and turned to Gordon, "You're right; she did get in with someone's help."
Hannah thought he was going to join in on the bullying and struggled even harder.
"I know I'm not capable. You don't have to humiliate me with them! I promise I won't rely on anyone's help again!"
Before this, she never thought she was incompetent.
Since starting college, both her classmates and professors had praised her abilities.
This was the first time she began to doubt herself.
Maybe she shouldn't have accepted Stella's kindness in the first place.
Gordon's smirk grew even wider after hearing Charles's words.
"Charles, I don't know who helped her, but since yesterday, she's been mocking us in the department..."
Before he could finish, Charles cut him off, "The person who helped her is me!"
As his words hung in the air, the entire department fell silent, and even the air seemed to freeze.
Thread static buffer is already in use.
