Chapter 967 A Chance Encounter at the Cinema
Charles eagerly pulled the clothes out of the shopping bag.
Hannah, a bit nervous, said softly, "If you don't like it, I can exchange it. But I really love this style, and I think it would look awesome on you."
Just then, Stella walked over and chimed in, "This is a gift from Hannah. Even if you don't like it, you can't say that. She spent a lot of her part-time job money on this for you! She even skipped her homework to get you this outfit."
Charles was too caught up in his excitement to hear a word they were saying.
Without even taking off his current clothes, he threw on the down jacket Hannah had given him.
The mid-length dark blue down jacket, paired with a black trench coat underneath, surprisingly looked pretty cool.
Hannah realized that needing clothes to look good didn't really count as looking good.
A truly stylish person could make anything look great, even if it was just two pieces of ragged cloth.
And Charles was exactly that kind of stylish person.
Even though this outfit wasn't on the same level as what he usually wore, he made it look high-end.
"How do I look? Does it look good?" Charles, spinning around in the clothes Hannah gave him, asked Stella.
Stella pouted and teased, "It doesn't look good. Let Hannah return it for you."
Charles, feeling like Hannah had given him the most precious gift in the world, proudly said, "I think you're just jealous! I think it's great and I really like it."
Stella pouted, "Don't you usually dislike clothes with hoods?"
Charles, without missing a beat, said, "Who said that? I never said that."
Stella almost choked, gritting her teeth in frustration. "Yeah, it wasn't you who said it. It was me."
She clearly remembered him saying it, but now he wouldn't admit it.
Charles, still wearing the clothes Hannah gave him, was reluctant to take them off, smiling like a fool.
Charles said, "I really like it."
Seeing how much he liked it, Hannah suddenly didn't feel the pinch anymore.
Although she had paid for the clothes without hesitation earlier, thinking about how it almost spent all her internship salary at IntelliMerge Technologies Company, she still felt a bit of a pinch.
But now, she didn't feel it at all. She thought it was worth spending any amount of money as long as Charles liked it.
Stella was speechless.
She realized that no matter how smart a person was, once they fell in love, they turned into a fool in front of the person they liked.
Charles stuffed the shopping bag that had held the down jacket into Stella's hands, holding an umbrella in one hand and Hannah's hand in the other. "You take the stuff back to the dorm first. Hannah and I are going to eat."
After saying that, he walked away without looking back.
Stella looked at the shopping bag in her arms, first stunned, then angrily stomped her feet.
Stella shouted, "You two annoying people. Don't come to me if you have any arguments in the future."
However, Charles and Hannah seemed not to hear her, completely ignoring her.
Stella got even angrier.
Ever since he wore the clothes Hannah gave him, Charles had to show off wherever he went.
Charles asked, "Have you noticed anything different about me?"
Wyatt looked at him, puzzled.
'Nope! Still the same as before!' Wyatt thought.
Charles didn't care if he noticed or not, smiling. "The clothes I'm wearing were given to me by Hannah. She bought them especially for me."
Wyatt remained silent.
Back home, Charles couldn't help but show off to Randy, striking a pose with his hand on his cheek.
Charles asked, "Don't you think I look handsome in this outfit?"
Randy was a bit confused.
Before Randy could answer, Charles continued, "This is the outfit Hannah gave me. Of course, I look handsome in it! My girlfriend gave it to me!"
Randy thought Charles might have gone crazy.
Charles showed off his clothes in different ways every day, leaving Randy speechless.
Time flew by.
Hannah finished her final exams, and after completing all her coursework, she didn't go back home but rented a short-term apartment near the school.
During Christmas, part-time wages tripled, and she didn't want to miss this great opportunity to make money.
She also wanted to stay with Charles. If she went back home, it would take several hours for them to meet.
Besides, she didn't think Quentin and Lisa needed her to go back.
Charles had initially hoped Hannah would move in with him to save on rent.
But since Violet knew where Charles lived and could drop by anytime, Hannah decided against it, worried it might make Violet's condition worse.
Charles then suggested she stay at his other place.
Hannah turned that down too.
Her pride wouldn't let her spend Charles's money before they were married.
Even though she wasn't rolling in dough, she often insisted on paying when they went out.
The more she cared, the more she paid attention.
Charles knew about her pride and, unable to change her mind, personally helped her find a cost-effective one-bedroom apartment after Violet finished her treatment.
The place was newly renovated and fully furnished, ready for her to move in without needing to bring anything extra.
Charles helped Hannah drag her suitcase into the apartment.
Before moving in, Charles had already hired a cleaning service to give the place a thorough scrub-down.
Hannah started organizing her stuff.
She neatly folded her clothes and put them in the wardrobe.
Towels and toothbrushes went into the bathroom.
Skincare products were placed on the vanity.
Shoes were put in the shoe cabinet.
Charles tried to help several times but was gently pushed onto the sofa by her.
Hannah said, "Alright, stop messing around. I'll do it myself. I like to organize things so I can find them easily later!"
Watching her busy around, Charles couldn't stay still. He got up and hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Charles said, "Hannah, I'm hungry! Let's stop organizing and go out to eat."
Hannah took out her phone and checked the time. "Wow, it's already six o'clock!"
Charles nodded, feeling a bit dramatic. "Yeah! It's already dark outside! We only had a quick bite for lunch. Aren't you hungry?"
As if on cue, Hannah's stomach growled.
She blushed.
Hannah asked, "What do you want to eat? I'll cook for you."
Charles took her hand and said, "Cook what? We just moved in, and there's nothing here! Come on, I'll take you out for some good food. While you were organizing, I checked out the area and found a highly-rated restaurant. Let's go try it."
Hannah thought about how there were indeed no ingredients at home and let Charles take her out.
It started snowing heavily again outside.
The ground, just cleared, was covered with a thick layer of snow.
Charles said regretfully, "It's snowing, and I didn't notice. I didn't bring an umbrella! Wait here. I'll go upstairs and get one."
Hannah pulled him back and beckoned him with her finger. "Bend down a little."
Charles looked at her, puzzled. "What for?"
Hannah stomped her foot playfully. "Bend down! You're too tall, and I can't reach."
Hearing her words, Charles thought she was going to kiss him, and he couldn't hide the smile on his face. He obediently bent his knees and squatted down to be level with Hannah.
Afraid she might be shy, he even closed his eyes and turned his face to her.
Seeing him like this, Hannah knew he misunderstood. She rolled her eyes at him, then pulled the hood of his jacket over his head and zipped it up to the top.
Hannah said, "Good thing the jacket I bought for you has a hood."
Charles was stunned for a moment, then he also pulled up Hannah's hood.
Hannah continued, "Let's hold hands and walk in the snow!"
Charles nodded, took her hand, and walked in the snowy landscape.
Large snowflakes fell on them.
The dim streetlights stretched their shadows long.
At the movie theater entrance.
Hannah went to pick up the tickets.
Charles stood in line to buy soda and popcorn.
Hannah had bought tickets online for a romance movie that premiered at 3 PM today.
They had set aside a day for a date.
After that, Hannah would officially start her job.
There was only one person ahead of Charles in line. He looked up at the snack recommendations, wondering if he should buy some other snacks.
Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded in his ear, "Daddy, Mommy, Shirley, do you want anything? I'll go buy it. Watching a movie requires popcorn and soda, and maybe some other snacks. Should I just get a bit of everything?"
Hearing Violet's voice, Charles immediately frowned, and all his good mood vanished.
Charles thought, 'What a coincidence? In such a big city, with so many movie theaters, how do we end up at the same one and at the same time? It's enough to drive me crazy.'
(I highly recommend a captivating book that I couldn't put down for three days and nights. It's incredibly engaging and a must-read. The title of the book is "After Car Sex with the CEO" You can find it by searching for it in the search bar.
Here is the synopsis of the book:
After being betrayed by my boyfriend, I immediately turned to his friend, a handsome and wealthy CEO, and slept with him.
I initially thought it was just an impulsive one-night stand, but I never expected that this CEO had been infatuated with me for a long time.
He had approached my boyfriend solely because of me...)
