Chapter 345 Rescuing Randy
"Talk. What's going on?" Martin's," Martin said, voice was a frosty specter wafting from the abyss. "What's going on?"
The occupants didn't seem inclined to play coy, spilling it all. "Some folks came up to us tonight, and handed us cash to follow their instructions for a spin around Ivara City."
Another chimed in eagerly,. "Yeah, that's right!. A cool hundred grand just to drive around Ivara City—; we couldn't resist the offer. They told us if anyone stopped us, just stay put, don't get out, and leave the doors unlocked."
Veins throbbed in Martin's forehead as a glacial chill radiated from him, as if he could freeze you in place.
Back at the base, Charles, picking up on the commotion, quickly rerouted the surveillance feed to 367 Seaborough Lane.
And sure Sure enough.
While, while their attentions were fixated on the SUV, the real Charlotte had slipped away with Randy and Patricia in another vehicle.
"Daddy, we've fallen for a classic diversion strategy."
Martin clenched his fists tight.
In his rush, despite sensing something was amiss, he'd failed to pay closer attention, hastily jumping to conclusions and decisions.
He forced himself to keep his cool and said to Alan, "You want these people locked up, don't you?" Alan said.
"Yes!"."
Alan signaled to his men, and they escorted the individuals into a vehicle.
"No, why are you taking us?Hey, what'd we do? Where are you taking us? I don't even know you…"!" one of them protested.
"We'reWe were just doing a job for some cash,! I don't need this… I'm notain't going anywhere with you…"," another muttered, the fear evident in his voicesaid.
"We're going to call the cops, this! Kidnapping is kidnapping, it's illegal…!" Aa third voice tried to assert some semblance of control over the quickly deteriorating situationsaid.
Their cries, however, did nothing to alter their fate.
Eventually, with no other recourse, they had their cell phones were taken, their hands and feet bound, and their mouths gagged, and. They were taken away by force.
Once the situation was handled, Martin climbed back into the car and asked Charles, "Where have they taken them now?"
Charles had a grim look on his face. "They're headed toward the north suburbs, not the route out of Ivara City. They've been gone nearly an hour now, well beyond the surveillance cameras' reach."
Martin, cautious not to fall for another trap, asked gravely, "Are you sure the ones they took are your brother and mother?"mommy?" Martin asked gravely.
Charles nodded. "The surveillance footage isn't great, but I ran a contour data analysis with some software I developed. There's an eighty percent match. I'm sure it's them."
"Which road did they take?" Martin pressed.
"Parrot Road," Charles replied.
With that information, Martin made a snap decision. "Everyone, follow me— in full pursuit of Charlotte."
Alan took the order, and the rest followed Martin's car, speeding towards Parrot Road. Charlotte had almost an hour's head start.
Charlotte had almost an hour's head start.
They were nowsoon on the south side of Ivara City, racing to the north—a; the journey that spanned the entire city from end to end.
By the time they reached Parrot Road, dawn had completely broken.
Charlotte's van had already left the monitored area, disappearing without a trace.
Fortunately, Parrot Road had no forks—just one straight path. They had only to chase straight ahead.
An hour passed.
They when they finally caught up in the northern suburbs.
Untamed wasteland and sparse woodlands surrounded them.
From a distance, Martin spotted a vehicle parked on the side of the road.
Seeing the car, Charles's eyes lit up instantly,. "Daddy, look quick, there's! It's the white van that took Randy and mom."Mommy!"
Alan immediately commanded his team to surround the vehicle.
Before the car had fully stopped, Martin, unable to wait a moment longer, flung open the door and sprinted towards the white van.
The door of the van was ajar.
In, and in the spacious back seat, a small figure lay in silence.
The sunlight kissed the child's cheeks, and in an instant, Martin's eyes were tinged with red in an instant, a sharp pang of acidity in his chest. Even with his steely composure, he could not mask the flurry of emotions shaking him to the core.
It was Randy.
It was really Randy.
No doubt about it.
With tremblingshaking hands, Martin lifted Randy fromout of the van, and gently checkinged his pulse at thehis neck.
It was still beating.
His, and his body temperature was normal.
He was alright.
Thank goodness!.
Martin quickly carried Randy back to their car for Charles to look after, and then resumed the search with Alan.
"There's onlyOnly Randy was in the van. No sign of anyone else; they must have fled. Call in for more people to join the search in the area,; I'll take Randy to the hospital with Charles," Martin instructedsaid.
Alan nodded, wasting no time to arrange the backup.
Back atin the car, Martin fetched a bottle of water and carefully dribbled it into Randy's mouth.
Charles, worried, asked, "Daddy, what's wrong with Randy? ?" Charles asked, worried. "Is he going to be okay?"
"I'm not sure, bud," Martin replied, shaking his head. "Let's get him to the hospital. Once he comes to, maybe he can tell us where your mommy is."
He knew the chances were slim.
But, but it was the only lead they had.
Arriving at the nearest hospital, Martin rushed Randy to the emergency room.
Fortunately, Randy was mostly unharmed, just mildly sedated with a sleeping drug. Because the dosage was small and due to his unique condition was unique, they couldn't pump his stomach;. tThey had to wait for the drug to wear off naturally.
Charles sat somberly next to the hospital bed, overwhelmed by a sense of defeat like never before.
Despite claiming to be a computer wiz, he couldn't even save his own mommy.
It had been over ten hours.
Still, yet still no word from mom.
Mommy. How would he find her?
Meanwhile, Martin was on the phone with Alan, catching up on the latest updates.
Alan reported frankly, "We've searched a thirty-mile radius; not, but there isn't a soul in sight. The area's too remote and desolate to even find someone to question."
The implication was clear.
ThereIn other words, there were no leads.
Martin's handsome face tensed, his gaze turning icy, casting a shadow over the whole hospital room.
ThroughEven through the phone, Alan could still feel the burning fury of his boss. He took a deep breath to brace himself,. "The area's too wide. To comb, so combing through it bit by bit will take some time. But one thing's for sure—they've left the city. I've checked all the surveillance on the roads leading into town, and there's no sign of them."
Martin clenched his teeth, his voice seething with determination,. "Keep searching. Turn Ivara City upside down if you have to, but find them. We have to save Patricia at all costs."
Hearing the urgency behind his words, Alan quickly replied, "I understand!"."
After hanging up, Martin slumped onto the sofa, rubbing his face hard with both hands.
The man who had always been confident, composed, and seemingly in control of everything, now had his mask of forced calm shattered,. It was as if he had fallen from a pedestal of power.
HelplessnessInside his heart, helplessness, confusion, fear, dread, guilt, and self-reproach wove together inside his heart, tormenting him relentlessly.
Never He never before had he felt so utterly useless.
He couldn't even protect the woman he loved the most.
Charles sat in silence.
FatherThe father and son, theirson's expressions, their postures, theirand gazes - all mirrored each other exactly.
Two hours later.
, Randy, who had been unconscious, finally woke upfinal opened his eyes.
