Chapter 650 Finding the Truth
After hearing the date from Patricia, Maximilian's face changed instantly.
"I got it! Thank you for telling me! Don't overthink during this time, just stay calm in the hospital! I will figure things out with Uncle."
Feeling that something was amiss, Patricia couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Reed, is there something wrong with Billy?"
Maximilian smiled and shook his head. "No! I just want to clarify some things! Don't overthink it! Take care of Martin. I hope to see him recover!"
Patricia wanted to ask further, but Maximilian had already stood up. "I have things to attend to, so I'll leave now! I'll contact you after I finish what I have on my plate.
Without waiting for Patricia to finish speaking, he left anxiously.
Patricia furrowed her brows tightly.
There must be a conspiracy at play.
Just during the day, Martin mentioned issues between Maximilian and the Hill family , and now Maximilian approached her in the evening, inquiring about the Hill family.
Was Maximilian trying to confuse matters, or was there truly an issue with the Hill family?
Patricia couldn't comprehend and had no mind to continue drinking coffee. She packed the dessert and returned to the hospital.
Upon seeing her enter, Ryan immediately greeted her with a smile. "Patricia, you're finally back! Did you bring us food? I happen to be hungry, thank you."
Taking the dessert from Patricia's hand, he placed it on the coffee table and started eating with a fork.
Martin shook his head helplessly and asked Patricia, "Did you record it?"
Patricia nodded, opened her phone, and played the recording from earlier.
When he heard the phrase, "Is there anywhere you might have inadvertently revealed to the Hill family that you were impersonating Kaleb's daughter?" his brows instinctively furrowed.
Though Ryan was eating, he was listening attentively.
He listened while eating.
After finishing the recording, and his dessert, he reluctantly licked the fork clean, threw the trash away, and remarked, "I told you, the relationship between the two families isn't as good as it seems on the surface!"
Patricia picked up on something and hurriedly asked, "What did you find out?"
Ryan replied, "Just for a day, so I couldn't find any other useful information! But I did come across an important point. The Hill family has close ties with the government, while the Taylor family has connections with businessmen. Initially, the two families had no conflicting interests, so their relationship was naturally good. However, ever since Billy started his business, conflicts arose between the two families."
Perplexed, Patricia asked, "Billy runs a mobile gaming company, and the Taylor family deals with electronic products. There shouldn't be any business competition between the two."
Ryan explained, "How could there not be! For decades, the Taylor family has dominated the entire commercial empire of the Country D. All businesses listen to him; he's the unique and largest conglomerate. But in recent years, Billy's mobile gaming company has grown rapidly. You know how large the gaming consumer base is. Moreover, in recent years, they've released several popular games. Last year, Billy's company's annual profit was close to surpassing Nexus Holdings Corporation. With their rapid growth, it's only a matter of time before they surpass Nexus Holdings Corporation and become the leading commercial entity in the Country D. If Billy's mobile gaming company were to surpass Nexus Holdings Corporation, do you think their relationship would remain as strong? This would lead to conflicting interests and business competition."
Patricia fell silent instantly.
Indeed!
There were conflicting interests, weren't there?
Moreover, their conflict was greater than that of peers.
Nexus Holdings Corporation had ruled the commercial empire of the Country D for so many years, suddenly being defeated by Billy would lead to predictable consequences.
There would definitely be a fierce conflict between the two families.
Ryan added, "In my opinion, both Maximilian and the Hill family are involved in this matter. They might each have their own schemes, and we've inadvertently stumbled into their feud."
Patricia asked Martin, "What should we do next?"
Martin decisively stated, "We should withdraw from the battlefield! This is a matter between the two families, and it has nothing to do with us. We shouldn't intervene!"
Ryan nodded in agreement. "Exactly! I also think we should step back! Originally, this matter has nothing to do with us; it's a conflict between the Hill family and the Taylor family. Why should we get involved? Besides, this is the Country D, even if we want to help, we are powerless!"
Agreeing with their reasoning, Patricia sighed, "Alright! Let's not meddle in others' affairs."
Maximilian rushed to the small town where Margaret had lived for over twenty years.
By the time he arrived in the town, it was already dawn.
The people in the town led simple lives.
They started their day early, bustling about.
The streets were lively.
The entire town was vibrant and full of vitality.
Just seeing people standing on the streets made one feel relaxed.
Following the address in his hand, Maximilian found the current home of the landlady who had rented a house to Margaret.
The doorbell rang for a while before it finally opened.
A middle-aged woman in her fifties or sixties lazily yawned. "Who are you looking for?" she asked.
"Excuse me, are you Ruth Gonzalez?" Maximillian asked.
The middle-aged woman nodded and couldn't help but scrutinize him from head to toe. "Yes! I am Ruth, who are you? I don't know you."
Maximilian took out a photo.
It was a photo that his uncle had kept hidden in a drawer.
It was a picture of Margaret when she was young, taken shortly after she had just met his uncle.
"Hello, do you know this woman?"
Ruth took the photo, examined it carefully, seemed to recognize her, but didn't respond, and asked cautiously, "What do you want with her? Who are you?"
Maximilian took out the prepared dollars and handed them to her. "She is the wife my uncle lost contact with over twenty years ago. My friend visited not long ago and told me your address, asking me to find you. He said this woman once lived with you."
Greedy and foolish, Ruth immediately believed him, nodding vigorously. "Yes, yes, her name was Linda Parker! I know her! She had been living with me for over twenty years!"
Maximilian was taken aback, "What did you say her name was?"
Ruth, oblivious to the oddity in his tone, pocketed the money and smiled. "Linda! She had been living with me for over twenty years! She was very lonely when she first came, and I felt sorry for her, so I took care of her all this time."
Maximilian's expression turned cold as he said, "You're lying."
