Chapter 987 Charles Avenges Hannah

At the hospital.

Hannah got checked out thoroughly and, thank goodness, nothing major was wrong. The cuts on her face were just surface-level and needed some regular meds, and the gash on her forehead wouldn’t scar if treated right.

Physically, she was okay, but mentally, she was a mess.

On top of that, she caught a bit of a cold from being soaked and not changing out of her wet clothes fast enough.

Charles was super worried and decided she should stay in the hospital for a few days just to be safe.

Hannah lay in bed with a bandage on her forehead. Charles sat next to her, gently tucking her hair behind her ear. "How you feeling? Does your forehead still hurt? If it does, I’ll get the doc to give you something for the pain."

Seeing Hannah like this because of Violet made Charles want to strangle Violet.

He couldn’t even bring himself to say a mean word to Hannah, and now she was hurt like this.

If Stella hadn’t shown up when she did, he couldn’t even think about what might’ve happened.

Every time he thought about how scared and helpless Hannah must’ve felt, it was like his heart was being squeezed by a vice.

He wasn’t there when she needed him most.

He was angry, full of regret, and blaming himself.

Hannah’s eyes had focus again, but she was still freaked out.

She clung to Charles’ hand, scared he’d leave if she let go.

"Darling." Her voice was so soft, it was almost a whisper.

If he wasn’t paying attention, he might’ve thought he imagined it.

It was the first time she’d called him that, and he was stunned for a second, then overjoyed.

Charles asked, "What did you just call me?"

Hannah looked at him, blinking. Maybe she’d cried too much, her eyes were dry, and her voice was hoarse. "Darling."

Hearing her call him that was like a pebble dropped in the calm lake of Charles’ heart, sending ripples everywhere.

He was so happy his eyes got red, feeling a mix of joy and tears.

He wanted to laugh but felt like crying even more.

His face, caught between laughing and crying, looked pretty ridiculous.

Charles said, "I love it when you call me darling."

It made them feel so much closer.

How sweet it sounded!

Shirley, sitting nearby, had red, puffy eyes from crying too much. Seeing Charles’ goofy expression, she finally laughed. "Charles, you look so silly, like a fool."

The warm vibe in the room finally brought a small smile to Hannah’s lips.

She slowly smiled. "Darling, I’m tired and want to sleep. Will you stay with me?"

Charles instinctively wanted to cup her face but stopped when he saw her swollen face. He leaned down and gently kissed the tip of her nose.

It was the only part of her face that wasn’t hurt.

Shirley immediately covered her eyes dramatically but peeked through her fingers.

Charles said softly, "Okay, I’ll stay with you. You rest now."

Hannah obediently closed her eyes.

With Charles by her side, her tense and scared nerves finally relaxed, and all her exhaustion hit her. She fell into a deep sleep shortly after closing her eyes.

Listening to her steady breathing, Charles gently pried her hand off his and tucked the blanket around her.

"Shirley!" Charles called out.

Shirley looked up at him.

"I'm going to make them pay for what they did to Hannah. Can you stay with her?" Charles asked.

He knew what was coming would be brutal, and he didn’t want Shirley to witness it.

Shirley nodded fiercely, her eyes blazing. "Go ahead, Charles! I'll take care of Hannah! Those jerks deserve everything coming to them! Make sure they regret ever messing with her."

Charles paused, looking at her seriously. "This was all Violet's doing. I won’t let her off the hook either. Will you hate me for that?"

Shirley’s eyes widened in shock. "Violet had something to do with this?"

Charles clenched his jaw. "Yeah, she’s the one who did this to Hannah."

Without missing a beat, Shirley said, "Anyone who hurt Hannah like this is unforgivable, even if it’s Violet."

Her reaction caught Charles off guard.

"You’re not going to plead for Violet?" he asked.

Shirley shook her head. "My dad always said people have to own up to their actions. If Violet messed up, she should face the consequences. I trust you wouldn’t accuse her without reason."

She genuinely liked Hannah.

It felt like she’d known Hannah forever, and every time she saw her, she felt at ease.

Sometimes she even secretly wished Hannah were her real sister.

She knew it was wrong to think that way.

But for some reason, she never felt the same connection to Violet as she did to Carter, Lassie, and Hannah.

Shirley liked Violet simply because Violet was her sister by blood.

She felt sorry for the tough times Violet had gone through over the past seven years.

That was it.

But with Hannah, it was different.

It was a real, heartfelt affection.

Charles stood up and walked over to Shirley, ruffling her hair. "Do you have a smartwatch?"

Shirley nodded eagerly, showing off the smartwatch on her wrist.

Charles smiled. "If Hannah wakes up, call me right away! I’ve got four bodyguards outside. If you’re hungry or need anything, just ask them."

Shirley, being the sensible and obedient girl she was, nodded again. "Got it. Go get those guys for Hannah! I’ll stay here with her. If she wakes up, I’ll keep her company and wait for you to come back."

Charles patted her head gently. "Wait for me to come back."

With that, Charles turned and left.

Before leaving, he made sure to instruct the bodyguards outside to keep them safe.

After leaving the hospital, Charles drove straight to the place where Hannah worked part-time.

The place was swarming with bodyguards.

Anyone trying to sneak out the back was caught on camera and nabbed.

Anyone trying to peek inside through the glass door was shooed away by the bodyguards.

There were hundreds of bodyguards inside and out. As Charles approached, the bodyguards at the door immediately bowed their heads and shouted, "Mr. Watson."

Their voices were loud and clear, echoing through the building.

The bodyguards at the door opened it for Charles.

He walked straight in.
