Chapter 493 The Psychic Connection Between Husband and Wife ===

It was three o'clock in the afternoon in Ivara City. Patricia was preparing a bottle of formula for Maria when, inexplicably, a sense of unease crept over her. The bottle slipped from her grasp and shattered on the floor with a loud crash.

Little Maria, seated in her high chair and playing with her toys, seemed startled and burst into loud wails. She was usually such a good baby, seldom fussy or tearful, but now, she seemed scared, crying her heart out.

As Maria wailed, Patricia's anxiety spiked. The more nervous she got, the more clumsy she became, spilling formula everywhere.

Jade, who’d been in the bathroom, rushed out after a quick rinse of her hands and scooped up the inconsolable Maria, rocking her and asking, “What’s wrong? What happened?”

Patricia felt an inexplicable gloom weighing heavy on her heart, a sadness she couldn't articulate. Perhaps affected by Maria's distress or her own troubled emotions, her eyes too reddened. She haphazardly wiped up the spilled formula from the table before fetching a new bottle from the sterilizer. But for some reason, her hands trembled fiercely. She spilled water, and the formula wouldn't funnel into the narrow opening.

Jade patted Maria's back while trying to soothe her, then turned to Patricia, alarmed at her shaking hands. “Patricia, what’s going on? Are you okay?”

Patricia seemed not to hear her, gripping her right wrist with her left hand to stabilize it enough to pour the formula into the bottle. Then she screwed on the lid and placed the bottle in the mixer. The mixer rhythmically swayed back and forth. Patricia leaned her hands on the counter, staring at the mixer, slightly zoned out to its soft ‘thump, thump, thump.’

Jade had never seen her like this; it startled her. Gently nudging Patricia, she called out, “Patricia, Patricia...”

Patricia didn’t seem to hear, staring blankly at the mixer. Even Maria's cries failed to draw her attention.

Jade knew something was seriously wrong. Otherwise, Patricia, who adored her children, would never be so indifferent to Maria's tears. The little one in her arms was wailing fiercely, leaving no room in her mind for Patricia. Cradling Maria with one arm, Jade turned off the bottle warmer with the other, retrieved the bottle, and settled on the couch with her baby.

Usually well-behaved and polite, Maria stubbornly refused the bottle, crying louder and pushing Jade's hand away.

Jade was sweating bullets in panic. "Baby, what's the matter with you? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?" she murmured, anxiety coloring her voice.

A thought struck her, and she immediately pressed her forehead against Maria's, checking for fever. Thankfully, her temperature was normal. Could it be a stomachache then? She recalled hearing about how often babies suffered from colic. Could it be colic poisoning Maria's peace?

Jade laid Maria back on the couch, her gentle palms pressing against the infant's belly, massaging in a clockwise, then counterclockwise movement. However, the baby wasn't cooperative, kicking her hands with both arms and legs.

Tears were close to spilling from Jade's eyes. Something was off with Patricia. Maria wasn't calming down. What was she supposed to do?

Just then, as if Patricia's soul had snapped back from outer space, she walked over silently, scooped Maria into her arms, and began pacing the room, humming a soft tune.

As she hummed, tears started streaming down her face. Maria, however, was coaxed into quiet, her head tilted, asleep on Patricia’s shoulder. Half of her face was pressed against Patricia's shoulder, her little mouth slightly open, dribbling a long strand of drool.

Jade felt overwhelmed. "My big troublemaker, why are you crying now? I just got the little one settled, and now you're starting?" she exclaimed, her voice a mixture of exasperation and concern.

Patricia continued to cry silently, holding Maria and pacing the room, still in soothing mode. As Jade wrestled with what to do, the doorbell rang. Peering through the peephole, she saw Ryan.

Jade flung the door open, ushering him in with relief. "You're finally here! If you'd been any later, these two would have driven me insane."

Patricia was quietly shedding tears, so Ryan, unaware of the muffled sobs as he took off his shoes, asked, "What's going on? Did something happen?"
Jade quickly outlined the situation.

Ryan immediately rushed to Patricia's side, his concern evident in his voice as he said, "Patricia, what's wrong? The boss called me yesterday and said I should check on you when possible. I came over as soon as I wrapped things at the office. You okay?"

Only upon hearing Ryan's voice did Patricia finally respond, stopping and looking up at him.

Her appearance took Ryan aback. Her face was ashen, lips tinged with blue, and her eyes red and swollen, resembling someone in the throes of a heart attack. Randy used to look just like that whenever he had an episode.

"Patricia, what's happening? Is it your heart?" Ryan asked.

Patricia sat on the couch so abruptly that she almost dropped the little one, seemingly forgetting she was still holding her.

Jade, startled, quickly lifted Maria from her arms and gently placed her in the crib. When Maria puckered her lips, looking on the verge of tears, Jade broke out in a cold sweat and immediately started rocking the crib. Maria's frown lasted only a moment before she quickly drifted back to sleep. Although it wasn't entirely peaceful, the quiet surroundings helped, and she soon fell back asleep without any further fuss.

Once the little one was finally settled, Jade had a moment to sit by Patricia, grabbing her still trembling hand and asking urgently, "Patricia, what's going on?"

She had a feeling both Maria and Patricia were off today.

After Jade took her hand, Patricia seemed to find some solace, turning to her and gripping her hand tightly in return. "Jade, I... I feel so uneasy, inexplicably hollow, and panicked all of a sudden..."

She struggled to articulate the specific sensations. She couldn't describe it in words; it just felt awful. An unprovoked sadness welled up inside her. Her heart felt as if it had been hollowed out, and she was overcome with the urge to cry.

Ryan was stunned by her words, disbelief written all over his face. "You're feeling this way too?"

Patricia looked at him in disbelief. "What? You also feel it?"

Ryan nodded. A strange and sudden feeling had almost caused him to slam into the guardrail as they were driving.

Patricia turned to Jade. "Do you feel that too?"

Jade shook her head. "Nope! I don't feel anything."

A wave of unease swelled within Patricia, growing and rising uncontrollably. Suddenly, a thought struck her, and her pupils dilated in alarm.
