Chapter 1109 Autopsy
For a moment, Lassie felt an emptiness in her heart and didn't know how to react.
Seeing no response from her, Alan tentatively asked, "Do you want to come and take a look? If you don't, we'll send her to the morgue for now."
Lassie struggled internally for a while. Should she go or not? After all, they had been mother and daughter for a few months. Emotionally and rationally, she should see the fake Violet one last time.
However, thinking about how Violet had repeatedly hurt Hannah, and this time even dared to run her over with a car, causing Hannah to still be in the ICU and not out of danger, all of Lassie's emotions were instantly set aside, leaving only disgust and hatred for her.
"No! Since she's already dead, you can handle the body however you want; it has nothing to do with me."
Alan immediately understood her thoughts and nodded. "I understand!"
"Then I'll leave it to you!" After ending the call, Lassie closed her eyes with a complicated feeling.
Charles, who was beside her, suddenly asked, "Violet is dead?"
Lassie nodded. "Yes! She was stabbed to death, probably premeditated murder! But the killer hasn't been caught yet."
Charles squinted his eyes, a mysterious glint flashing deep within them.
Hannah had called out Austin's name under hypnosis. Tina and Austin were classmates. In Country D, it was Tina who provided psychological treatment for Violet.
Violet was a fake, yet she could recount some of Hannah's childhood events and later remembered her feelings for Charles.
All these things seemed unrelated to Austin, yet each one seemed to be intricately connected to him.
Suddenly, Charles seemed to remember something and looked sharply at Lassie. "How did Carter have an accident in Country H? Tell me the details."
When Carter had his accident, Charles was too depressed from not being able to find Hannah to know much about it.
After a series of incidents, he suddenly had a bold idea. But this idea was so crazy that he couldn't be sure.
Lassie, unaware of his thoughts, slowly said, "On the day of the accident, Carter happened to be on a business trip to Country H, and Austin was attending a seminar there. Carter said he would secretly go see him."
"At the time, he even told me he saw Austin at the gate of H University, and then he lost contact. I tried to reach him for a long time but couldn't."
"At first, I was afraid something had happened to him and was ready to go there. But later, Austin answered the phone, saying he had gone to the restroom and told me not to worry, saying they had already met. Only then did I feel relieved."
"Shortly after, I received news of his accident. Austin said it was a newly built bridge, and someone had spilled water on it. Carter didn't see it and slipped down the stairs."
Thinking about all the recent events, she felt a sense of surrealism and couldn't help but feel sorrowful. Over the years, their family had never been peaceful, always encountering incidents.
After hearing her account, Charles's brow twitched. "So, when Carter had his accident, Austin was with him?"
Lassie nodded while wiping her tears. "Yes! Austin was with him! Luckily, Austin was there; otherwise, it might have been too late by the time someone else found him."
Charles coldly curled his lips. How could it have been too late? If Austin hadn't been with him, Carter might not have had the accident at all.
Carter was only in his forties, not eighty; how could he not see such a large puddle of water on the ground? Moreover, high-end shoes had anti-slip features.
Not to mention water, even walking on ice would be like walking on flat ground. How could Carter have slipped on water? This explanation was too far-fetched.
When Carter had his accident, Austin was right there. This further confirmed Charles's suspicions. It seemed that everything was indeed related to Austin.
Charles rubbed his face hard, filled with regret. "Actually, when Shirley was living with me in Country D, she and Hannah had many similar hobbies, and even some small gestures and habits! At that time, I also suspected that they might be sisters. I wondered if Hannah could be Violet! I even took their hair for a DNA test!"
"Because I was busy at the time, and then the incident of Hannah being switched at the engagement happened, the DNA test was delayed!"
Charles took a deep breath and continued, "If...if I had insisted at that time, maybe none of the later events would have happened. I thought it was all my imagination, that I was overthinking."
"I thought Carter had already done a DNA test when he found Violet, so there shouldn't be any mistake! I didn't expect there to still be a problem."
He had calculated everything but missed Austin. He never thought everything would be related to Austin. As the son of the Moore family, it was too easy for Austin to do something in this situation.
If he had suspected Austin from the beginning, so many things wouldn't have happened later; it was all his negligence, all his fault.
Lassie covered her mouth in shock. "There was actually such a thing?"
Charles took a deep breath, blaming himself, "After a series of events, I forgot about it! I originally thought of having Wyatt do the DNA test after the New Year. Unexpectedly, Hannah disappeared shortly after!"
Then he fell into a slump, locking himself in a dark room for four months. How could he remember anything about the DNA test?
Now that he thought about it, the DNA test wasn't that important anymore. The fake Violet's death had already told everyone that Hannah was the Moore family's biological daughter, the Violet they had been searching for seven years.
From beginning to end, the only one he loved was Violet. It turned out that God had already sent Violet back to him, but he just didn't know it.
Lassie closed her eyes and said in a deep voice, "Everything is fate's arrangement!"
Charles slowly clenched his fists. No! It wasn't fate. All of this was man-made, the evil deeds of Austin.
He never thought the mastermind would be Austin, which was why Austin's schemes succeeded time and again.
Violet was eventually sent to the morgue. On the rooftop, they initially determined she had been stabbed to death. But the exact cause of death still needed to be determined by the coroner.
They also hoped the coroner could find some information about the killer on her body. However, they found that the killer was particularly cunning, leaving no evidence at the crime scene, not even footprints.
Seeing that no evidence could be found, Lassie had her cremated hastily, found a remote cemetery for her, and buried her without even holding a memorial service. It was a way to end the few months of their relationship.
