Chapter 1134 You Are My Mother
However, Charles didn't care at all.
After cleaning Hannah's face and hands, he got ready to dump the water. Lassie quickly grabbed the basin and headed to the bathroom to pour it out.
Stella handed the breakfast she bought to Charles. "Charles, I got you breakfast! Lassie's right; you can't keep neglecting your health like this! What if Hannah wakes up and you're the one who collapses? She'll definitely take care of you without rest! Then, when you recover, she'll be the one who falls ill! This cycle can't continue; it's a vicious circle."
Lassie came out of the bathroom and chimed in, "Stella's right! You two are stuck in a vicious cycle! I'll stay up tonight; you go home and get some rest."
Charles took the breakfast she handed him, opened it, and placed it on the bedside table. He started eating while saying, "I'm fine! I want to be the first person she sees when she wakes up."
Stella's eyes showed a hint of worry. "But when will she wake up? What if it takes a week, a month, or even longer? You can't stay here indefinitely! A day or two is manageable, but over time, your body won't be able to handle it."
Charles didn't respond, clearly avoiding the topic and not wanting to continue the conversation.
Everyone knew he was stubborn.
Especially when it came to Hannah, he was even more stubborn.
Once he made up his mind, no one could persuade him otherwise.
But everyone also knew that his body couldn't endure this much longer.
Lassie didn't give him a chance to refuse, sternly saying, "It's decided. I'll stay up tonight! Hannah is my daughter; it's my duty to take care of her! You go home and get a good night's sleep. If Hannah wakes up, I'll notify you immediately."
Charles still didn't speak.
His silence was his way of refusing.
Lassie sighed, her tone softening a bit, and said helplessly, "Listen to me, go home and rest! I finally reunited with Hannah, and I want to spend some time alone with her! Please, grant me this one wish, okay? We've been apart for eight years; I have so much to say to her."
Seeing her say this, Charles finally nodded in agreement. "If she wakes up, you must notify me immediately!"
Seeing him finally agree, Lassie breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. "I'll notify you right away! Don't worry!"
Charles stayed by the bed for another day.
That day, Hannah didn't have any nightmares and lay quietly in bed, as if she were just sleeping.
As night fell, Charles was still sitting by the hospital bed, showing no signs of leaving. Stella sighed and forcibly pulled him up from the chair. "Charles, it's late. Let's go home together! Lassie and Carter are here to take care of her; she'll be fine!"
Stella pushed him towards the door.
Charles reluctantly looked at Hannah, only turning his gaze away when he was completely out of the ward.
Stella said, "Charles, don't worry. Carter and Lassie are Hannah's biological parents; they'll take good care of her! Go home and get a good night's sleep. Maybe Hannah will wake up tomorrow."
"Okay." Charles nodded absentmindedly, then turned back to the room and said to Lassie, "Lassie, if she has nightmares tonight and you don't know how to handle them, call me immediately. I'll come and take care of it."
After saying this, he added, "Last night, she had a painful nightmare but didn't wake up! I think it might be related to the mental illness the doctor mentioned."
"Alright! We will be careful!"
After Lassie repeatedly assured him, Charles finally left.
That night, just as Charles had said.
Lassie cleaned Hannah's body, and Carter stayed by the bed. Lassie prepared to rest on the sofa, and they planned to take turns watching over her.
But as soon as Lassie lay down, before she could fall asleep, Hannah started having a nightmare.
She seemed very sad, with tears streaming down her face.
Her hands clutched the sheets tightly, and she kept muttering.
"Why are you doing this to me?"
"No!"
"Mom, Dad, why don't you believe me?"
"Why?"
"If you don't like me, why did you have me?"
"I didn't steal the money!"
Hearing her talking in her sleep, Lassie immediately got up from the sofa and walked to the bed, leaning in to listen.
But Hannah spoke too quickly, with a crying tone, and her voice was too soft to understand.
Carter held her hand, feeling heartbroken.
Lassie gently stroked her face and said softly, "Hannah, what's wrong? Tell me, what nightmare are you having? Don't be afraid; no matter what happens, I will protect you and won't let you get hurt."
Upon hearing Lassie's words, Hannah miraculously calmed down.
Although she stopped talking in her sleep, tears continued to flow.
In her dream, she was also crying.
She knelt on the ground, crying bitterly and desperately.
Lisa's feather duster struck her repeatedly. "Tell me, did you steal the money? That was the money I saved with great effort, and you dared to steal it? Give it back, or I'll beat you to death."
Hannah shook her head, denying it. "It wasn't me, it wasn't me. I didn't steal it. How could I steal your money?"
Lisa didn't believe her at all and hit her harder. "You're still lying. There are only four people in this house. Who else could have stolen it? You ungrateful person, I knew you'd end up like this."
Hannah raised her head and asked defiantly, "There are four people in the house. Why don't you suspect them? Why do you suspect me? I worked hard to earn that money, too. Why would I steal it?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she was slapped hard.
Her face immediately swelled up, showing a clear handprint.
"You dare to argue! In this house, no one else would dare steal money. Only you, with your bad character, would do such a thing."
Hannah felt a suffocating pain in her heart.
She covered her slapped face and screamed, "What did I do to make you say I have bad character? I never asked you for a penny and worked part-time to earn money for you!
What did I do to deserve this treatment? Am I really your daughter? If you hate me so much, why did you have me?
Why didn't you kill me when I was born?
You raised both me and my brother. Why are you so good to him but treat me like this? Do you think my efforts are just taken for granted?
Do you think I should be wronged and beaten?
From childhood to now, you never allowed me into your room. Why do you say I stole the money? I don't even know where you keep it.
Before, when that drunk harassed me, you didn't help me get justice. Instead, you said I seduced him and was indecent.
I'm your daughter! Why don't you believe me? As a mother, aren't you supposed to protect your daughter? And you? Have you ever fulfilled your duty as a mother?"
She vented all her grievances and dissatisfaction in one breath.
