Chapter 954 Hearts in Harmony
Seeing Charles's face, Hannah knew exactly who was calling.
Hannah didn't even flinch; she just said, "Go ahead, answer it! I'm not mad."
She wasn't about to start a fight with someone who was sick.
Charles let out a tiny sigh of relief when he saw she wasn't upset. To keep things clear, he put the call on speaker.
Violet's voice came through, "Charles, are you done with work? Can you come with me to my treatment today? I haven't seen you all day, and I miss you."
Charles shot a quick look at Hannah, keeping his face blank.
Seeing she was still cool, he said, "I can't today. I'm out of town. I'll hit you up when I'm back."
Violet pressed on, "You're out of town? Where are you? Is everything okay? Do you need my dad's help?"
Charles felt like he was being smothered by Violet's constant neediness.
She wanted him around 24/7.
If she couldn't see him, she'd call.
If he didn't pick up, she'd keep calling.
She never gave him a break.
Even lovebirds weren't this clingy.
"No need, I got this. It'll just take a bit! Be good and let your folks take you to your treatments. I'll be back when I'm done." He was getting annoyed but tried to keep his voice steady so Violet wouldn't catch on.
Violet didn't want to hang up. "But without you, I'm really scared."
Charles almost lost it.
Sensing he was about to blow, Hannah put her hand on his leg.
Charles glanced at her, knowing she was trying to calm him down, and forced himself to chill.
To keep Violet from freaking out and to help her get better, he gently said, "Be good. I'm super busy. I'll be back as soon as I can! You want me to see how much better you are when I get back, right?"
Violet didn't answer but softly asked, "Can you come back tomorrow?"
Charles looked at Hannah, feeling a warm rush in his chest.
Charles replied, "Not sure, but I'll try!"
He really didn't know.
He finally had some time away and wanted to spend it with Hannah.
He'd go back when he was ready.
Violet was almost crying. "Then hurry up! I'll be waiting for you!"
"Okay!"
After Charles reassured her a bunch of times, Violet finally hung up.
Charles let out a long sigh and rubbed his temples, feeling more drained than ever.
Charles said, "Honestly, I feel so guilty. Seeing Violet like this makes it worse! I keep thinking, if I'd figured out her situation sooner, could I have found her right away? The delay made us miss the best time. If we'd found her earlier, she wouldn't have gone through so much these past few years."
Hannah patted his hand and said, "It's all in the past! Plus, her dad hid it from you, and you weren't in Sunset Bay, so it's not your fault. No one saw this coming."
Charles hugged her.
Thinking about how they had finally made up, he kissed her on the forehead.
Charles said, "Since we're here, let's stay a few more days."
Hannah looked worried. "Aren't you gonna go back to be with Violet? She doesn't seem to be doing too well."
Charles hugged her tighter. "It's cool. Carter and Lassie are with her! After that last mess, they should be keeping a close eye on her. Nothing like that will happen again."
He glanced towards the sunrise.
The sun was fully up now.
The night's chill was fading away.
Hannah didn't really want to leave either. She came here to chill, and now she wanted to enjoy a little vacay.
After a moment, she nodded. "Alright, let's stay a few more days!"
Then she suddenly remembered something. She pulled away from Charles, looked him over, brushed some dust off his face, and said, "Go take a shower! You're filthy!"
Charles looked at his legs. "I think I need to rest a bit more. My legs are too sore to go down the mountain right now."
Hannah laughed. "There's a hotel up here! Last time we came, it wasn't fully set up, but now it's almost perfect! I booked a room. You shower, I'll wash your clothes, and then we can decide if we wanna stay another night."
She had booked a room just in case, and it turned out to be a good call.
Charles asked, "So, you're not planning to go back?"
Hannah tilted her head and said, "I was thinking about it! But since you came and apologized, I'll forgive you."
Charles ruffled her hair.
After sitting for a bit, Hannah massaged his legs to help him recover, then put his arm around her shoulder and helped him stand.
Hannah asked, "How do you feel? Can you handle it? Need more rest?"
Charles frowned a bit.
His legs still hurt.
He felt like they couldn't hold him up.
But he didn't want to worry Hannah, so he forced himself to stand straight and walk slowly.
Charles replied, "It's okay, just a bit sore, but better than when we came up."
Hannah supported him, walking slowly. "If you can't take it, let me know, and we'll rest."
"Okay!" Charles nodded.
When Stella and Randy finally got to the top, they saw Hannah helping Charles towards the hotel.
Both of them sighed in relief.
Stella was fuming, ready to go scold them, but Randy stopped her.
Stella said, "What are you doing? Let me go yell at them! I'm so mad. They didn't tell us anything. Don't they know I was worried?"
Randy looked at where Hannah and Charles were heading, then turned Stella around. "Let's go back!"
Stella's eyes widened. "We just climbed up, and now we're going down?"
Randy said, "Let them have some time alone! We came to make sure they were safe. Now that we know, let's not bother them. They need time together after making up."
Stella thought he had a point, so she held back her anger and started down the mountain.
They had climbed up with a lot of effort and were super tired, but now they had to go back down.
If she had known, she wouldn't have come.
It was exhausting.
She had never climbed such a high mountain in her life.
