Chapter 928 The Rift Between Charles and Austin

Until the door slammed shut, Austin's cries got totally cut off.

Man, the soundproofing in this place was top-notch. Wyatt could kinda hear some muffled noises from inside but couldn't make out a word. When he saw the bruises on Charles's face, he lost it. "Austin actually hit you! I'm gonna go in there and teach him a lesson."

He raised his hand to knock, but Charles stopped him.

Charles said, "It's over. Don't bring it up again."

Wyatt looked shocked. "He tried to kill you, and you're just gonna let it slide? If you let him off now, he'll definitely come back for more. Your life's always gonna be at risk. I get that the Moore and Langley families are tight, but a guy like him won't ever be grateful!"

Charles rubbed his right wrist.

When he clocked Austin earlier, he hadn't paid attention to his form, and now his wrist was sprained and aching.

Looked like he needed a trip to the hospital for some meds, or it might become a bigger issue.

Charles explained, "I let him go this time 'cause I owe him! He's right; I did take Hannah from him, which is why he hates me and wants me dead! I've been so wrapped up in my own happiness that I forgot about him. It's my fault. Letting him go today makes us even. If he tries anything again, I won't let him off."

Wyatt still wasn't buying it. "But if there's a next time, it might be too late."

Charles knew Wyatt was worried, so he patted his shoulder and smiled. "To be blunt, I am the third wheel who broke up his relationship with Hannah! So I gotta be a bit generous! Besides, the same thing won't happen to me twice. Don't worry!"

Wyatt was left speechless.

It was the first time he'd seen someone admit to being the third wheel in breaking up a relationship. But, it seemed true.

Hannah and Austin split because of Charles.

If it weren't for Charles, they probably would've been married by now.

So, Charles ruining Austin's marriage and forgiving him once kinda made sense.

After a moment, Wyatt spoke again, "Then let me take you to the hospital to get patched up! Hannah's gonna freak if she sees you like this."

"Alright!" Charles nodded.

As they headed to the elevator, Wyatt asked, "How's your leg?"

Charles moved his right leg, then his left. "It's okay. Hurts a bit, but I can handle it!"

The elevator doors opened.

They stepped in, and Wyatt hit the button for the first floor. "Let's get your leg checked too! The doc said your leg hasn't fully healed yet, and you can't stand for long or do anything crazy! You probably messed it up during the fight."

Charles said, "I was too pissed earlier, didn't control my strength, and didn't think about anything else."

Thinking back, he realized he had been too impulsive.

Ever since he found out Austin had hired someone to kill him, he couldn't keep his anger in check.

On the way there, he kept wondering why Austin would do such a thing.

It wasn't until he heard Austin's tearful complaints that he realized how deeply he had hurt him.

Taking Austin's fiancée was definitely wrong. But matters of the heart are uncontrollable.

Even if it meant crossing moral lines, he was still determined.

He loved Hannah, and even if Austin hated his guts, he still wanted to be with her.

Wyatt took Charles to the hospital.

Yeah, he was banged up, but nothing too serious. The doc slapped on some meds, gave him some pills to help with the bruising, and put ointment on his wrist.

By the time they wrapped up at the hospital, it was already midnight.

Wyatt drove Charles home before heading back himself.

Charles went to the bathroom to strip off his dirty clothes. With his wrist all bandaged up, he couldn't take a proper shower, so he just wiped himself down and changed into some clean threads.

He stood in front of the sink, staring at his reflection in the mirror.

His left cheek had taken three solid punches and was now swollen and unrecognizable, with a thin scab forming at the corner of his mouth.

Even though he had changed into clean clothes, he still looked like a mess.

He rubbed his temples with his good hand. Just as he closed his eyes to gather his thoughts, his phone in the other room started ringing non-stop.

He pulled himself together and walked back to the room.

The call was from Hannah.

Charles glanced at the time.

It was almost 1 AM.

Hannah was still up?

He answered the call and asked, "What's up? Why aren't you asleep at this hour?"

Hannah sounded a bit upset, "Where have you been? Didn't you say you'd text me when you got there? You didn't text me back or reply to my messages. I thought something happened to you!"

Charles checked his phone and saw that Hannah had sent him a bunch of messages.

The first one was to let him know she had arrived at her dorm.

The rest were asking where he was, why he wasn't replying, and if he was busy.

At that time, he had been brawling with Austin and later in the hospital's ER, which was noisy. So he hadn't heard his phone.

He was so pissed off that he didn't think to check his phone, completely forgetting to text Hannah.

Feeling super guilty, Charles said, "I'm sorry for making you worry! I've taken care of everything here. I was a bit busy and didn't see your messages."

Hannah clearly breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as you're okay! I was so scared something had happened to you! Since everything's fine, get some rest. I'll go with you to the hospital in the morning."

Thinking about his current state, Charles didn't want her to worry, so he quickly said, "No need. I'll have Wyatt go with me."

Hannah was taken aback.

She had been going with him to rehab every day recently.

This was the first time he didn't want her to go.

She was momentarily stunned and felt a bit weird. "Really don't need me to go?"

Charles lightened his tone, "Wyatt said that ever since I got together with you, I haven't needed him, and he complains that I'm biased! To make it up to him, I'll let him tag along for a couple of days. If you really want to come, we can all go together! The more, the merrier."

Hannah was amused by his humor and rolled her eyes. "It's not like we're going shopping! The more, the merrier! If Wyatt wants to go with you, let him. I'll catch up on my studies during this time."

"Alright then!" Charles lay down on the bed, and they chatted a bit more before reluctantly hanging up.

On the other side.

After Charles left, Austin sat on the floor, smashing bottles and breaking everything within reach.

When his anger couldn't be calmed, a melodious tune suddenly started playing from the room, echoing through every corner of the house and sounding especially clear in the quiet night.
