Chapter 118 Charles Avenges Martin
After leaving the operating room, Patricia went straight to the ICU. Martin and Charles stood outside the glass window, their eyes fixed on the sleeping Randy, their faces filled with worry.
Patricia reassured them, "Don't worry, Randy's surgery was successful. If there are no complications, he will wake up tomorrow. You go back for now, and I'll call you if he wakes up."
Martin turned to look at her and noticed the fatigue hidden between her brows. Concerned, he asked, "Two surgeries in a row, aren't you tired?"
Patricia smiled and shook her head, saying, "Compared to the body, the heart is more exhausted."
During surgery, the entire mind is engaged, especially testing one's ability to adapt on the spot. Debbie's lack of adaptability is why she couldn't stop Bobby's bleeding.
Martin understood what she meant and sympathetically said, "You need rest more than me. I'll stay here, you go back first. I'll call you if anything happens."
Patricia couldn't help but be speechless. "There are nurses here, you don't need to stay. If anything happens, the nurses know better how to handle it than you. You'll only make things worse."
Hearing their conversation, Charles rolled his eyes speechlessly and said, "Alright, neither of you should make excuses anymore. Let's all stay here together! I'll keep you company."
"No!"
"No!"
This time, Martin and Patricia surprisingly agreed.
They glanced at each other, and Patricia spoke first, "You've already taken a day off today. You must go to kindergarten tomorrow. Rest well at home tonight. We're here with your Daddy, you don't need to be here."
"But..." Charles was worried about leaving.
Patricia, with an unquestionably assertive tone, said, "Don't give me any 'buts.' Fannie still needs you to take care of her! If you don't go back tonight, she will worry."
Sure enough, as soon as she mentioned Fannie, Charles immediately relented.
"Fine then! I'll go back first. If anything happens with Randy, you must let me know right away."
Patricia, not trusting Martin, said, "You should accompany him back! I'm not at ease with him going back alone."
Reluctantly, Martin took one last glance at Randy and held Charles's hand as they left.
Just as they walked out of the ICU, they saw Samuel and Martha coming towards them.
Martha scrutinized Charles from head to toe, forcing a smile and pretending to be affectionate, "So, you are Charles. I'm your grandmother. Quickly, call me 'grandma'."
As Charles looked at Martha, a mischievous glint flickered in his eyes, and he curled up his lips. Though his smile appeared sweet, an inexplicable sense of horror emanated from him.
"Second grandma!"
Martha's smile froze on her face, her teeth clenched. Each word came out with clenched teeth, "Se...cond... gra...ndma...”
Charles blinked his innocent, large eyes and pretended to be naive, saying, "You're not my biological mom, and you’re my grandfather's second wife. I can't call you a stepmother, so what should I call you? Auntie-stepmother?"
Martha's face turned pale with anger.
"Samuel, look at him. He's humiliating me..."
Before Samuel could speak, Charles's big eyes suddenly filled with tears.
Through tears, he said, "Auntie-stepmother, you're being mean to me. I called you nicely, and you accuse me of disrespecting you. *Sniff* you’re a bad person. I don't like you. I hate you... No wonder they say stepmothers are not good, and it seems the same for auntie-stepmothers. You bully me in front of my dad and my grandpa, so when they're not around, you're probably going to hurt me *sob*..."
While exaggerating his crying, he recalled how Fannie would cry and believed he was doing it right.
Did he misjudge it?
Martha's mouth twitched in spasms without uttering a word.
Only eleven words were spoken, but he cried so dramatically, as if feeling wronged.
Samuel's heart ached from Charles's crying, whether genuine or fake. He shouted at Martha, "He's just a four-year-old child. Are you seriously arguing with a four-year-old? Have some shame. Apologize to Charles."
Martha pointed at herself incredulously, "Apologize to him?"
Wasn't she the one who was wronged?
Samuel's face turned dark, and he asserted, "Yes, apologize!"
Martha was so angry that she nearly burst. She glared venomously at Charles. Charles rubbed his eyes with both hands and, unnoticed by Samuel, deliberately made a face at Martha.
"..."
Who does this little brat resemble?
Seeing her silence, Charles started sobbing again, shrugging his shoulders. "Grandpa, since auntie-stepmother doesn't want to apologize, then forget it! I'm just a wild child who hasn't been officially acknowledged yet. It's understandable that she doesn't recognize me."
"..."
How did this turn into acknowledging ancestry?
Why she was suddenly labeled with so many accusations?
Samuel's deep eyes brimmed with anger, and a chilling aura surrounded him. "Enough! Apologize when asked to. Stop with the nonsense."
Martha was deeply aggrieved. She had only spoken three sentences from start to finish, all of them were spoken by Charles.
To claim that she was talking nonsense...
Martha clenched her teeth and unwillingly apologized. Especially when she saw Charles's smug eyes, it made her even more frustrated.
But under Samuel's piercing gaze, she had no choice but to lower her head.
"Charles, I'm sorry. If grandma said something wrong and misunderstood you, grandma apologizes to you."
When saying these words, she wished she could strangle the little brat in front of her.
Les waved his hand pretending to be generous and said, "Alright, alright, I am the most generous person. Since you sincerely apologized, I will forgive you!"
"......?" Martha was so angry that she almost bit her silver tooth.
Seeing Martha swallowing her anger, the corners of Martin's mouth couldn't help but turn up. He wanted to laugh, but had to keep a cold demeanor, resulting in a strange expression with his muscles twitching and trembling uncontrollably.
After a while, he regained control of his facial expression and coldly said, "Randy is in the ICU. It's not suitable for too many people to visit. You don't need to go. Go home first, and I'll tell you if there's anything."
"But..." Samuel was still worried.
Yet, with an unquestionable tone, Martin spoke again, "Randy just finished the surgery and should rest well. Go back first!"
Hearing this, Samuel and Martha dismissed the idea of visiting Randy.
"Charles, come to the Langley Mansion when you have time. Grandfather has someone make delicious food for you," Samuel reluctantly said to Charles before leaving.
"Okay!" Charles replied casually.
Samuel left with Martha.
Martha, unwilling to turn back, stared at Charles fiercely with venomous eyes, as if she wanted to swallow him whole.
Once they were far away, Martin knocked Charles on the head and said, "Martha is scheming. You shouldn't have offended her."
Charles pouted, "It's her fault that my father never had a mother when he was little. She deserved it."
Martha was originally an orphan.
His grandmother, Catherine, who is his father's biological mother, pitied her for being alone, so she let her work as a maid in the Langley family.
Unexpectedly, she shamelessly climbed into the bed of his grandfather, Samuel.
His grandmother was deeply hurt and decided to divorce Samuel, taking their daughter Charlotte away from Ivara City, never to return again.
Meanwhile, Martha, the main perpetrator, became the mistress of the Langley family and even gave birth to a son for Samuel named Ian.
Fortunately, his father fought back, otherwise the Langley family would have long fallen into the hands of Martha and her son.
With an unintentional remark, Charles stunned Martin on the spot. A warm feeling spread through the soles of Martin's feet, warming his cold heart in an instant.
Charles actually stood up for him.
Martin's eyes turned slightly red with gratitude. He held Charles' hand tightly and said, "Your father is very happy, truly happy..."
Seeing his reddened eyes, Charles blushed and turned his head awkwardly, saying, "Stop being dramatic..."
Martin's heart was filled to the brim. He rubbed Charles' little head and held his hand as they left the hospital.
