Chapter 1048 Amnesia

Hearing her words, Charles thought she hadn't fully woken up yet. He stood up, brought his face closer to hers, so she could see more clearly. "Hannah, it's me, Charles. Take a good look."

"Charles." Hannah furrowed her brows. The name sounded so familiar, but she couldn't remember. The more she tried to think, the more her temples hurt, as if they were about to explode.

"It hurts... my head hurts." Hannah kept pounding her temples with her hands, as if that would alleviate the pain.

Seeing her hit her head so hard, Charles grabbed her hand. "If your head hurts, don't hit it! Let me massage it for you."

Instinctively, Hannah shook off his touch. Charles was very surprised.

Hannah hugged the blanket, curled up in the corner, and looked around at everyone with confusion and fear. "Who are you? Where am I? Tina... where's Tina? I need to find Tina."

Her reaction and words made Charles realize something. Even Martin, Ryan, and Randy beside him noticed something was wrong.

Everyone looked at each other. Randy puzzledly said, "What's wrong with Hannah? Why does she seem to not remember us? Could it be that she was underwater for too long, causing brain hypoxia and memory loss?"

Martin said seriously, "Quick, get a doctor."

Randy immediately went to find a doctor.

Hannah anxiously looked at Charles. "I need to find Tina. Have you seen her? Where is Tina?"

Ryan said, "Could the Tina she's talking about be the woman who was escaping with her at the time?"

Charles's face turned unusually grim, as if a layer of frost had enveloped him.

It was clear that the Tina Hannah mentioned was the woman Ryan was talking about. That woman must have done something to make Hannah forget him and only remember her.

Damn it. He wished he could kill that woman with his own hands.

Seeing that they weren't answering her, Hannah's emotions gradually became agitated. She threw off the blanket and grabbed Charles by the collar. "Where did you take Tina? Please, take me to her. I need to see her!"

Her voice was filled with panic and fear, like a child lost from their parents, utterly helpless.

Charles's heart ached. He wanted to reach out and hold her, but she struggled violently and broke free.

Hannah retreated back into the blanket, clutching it tightly, looking at Charles with terror.

Charles's eyes reddened with pain. He reached out his trembling hand, but seeing Hannah's wary eyes, he stopped abruptly, his hand hanging stiffly in mid-air. "Hannah, don't you remember me? I'm Charles!"

"Charles?" Hannah tilted her head, furrowing her brows, trying hard to remember the name. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't recall anything.

Seeing that she couldn't remember him, Charles's nose tingled, and he felt like crying, his voice choked with emotion. "Yes, I'm Charles."

Hannah finally showed a bit of reaction, her guarded expression easing a little as she looked at Charles in surprise. "Charles, you're Charles?"

Thinking she finally remembered him, Charles smiled excitedly. "Yes!"

Hannah's tone shifted immediately. "Charles, have you seen Tina? Tina is missing, I can't find her! I need to find her."

It was like climbing up from a cliff only to be pushed down again. He had just kindled a glimmer of hope, only to fall back into an abyss. "You don't remember me?"

Hannah didn't remember him. She had completely forgotten him.

Hannah kept pounding her head with her fists, mumbling to herself, "Charles... I need to find Charles... Who is Charles? Has anyone seen Charles? I need to find Charles... Where is Charles? Where is Tina?"

Her incoherent state frightened Charles.

Just as he was about to speak, Martin placed a hand on his shoulder. "Don't rush. The doctor will be here soon. Let the doctor examine her first."

Charles swallowed his words. Soon, Randy returned with the doctor.

The doctor gave Hannah a thorough examination and reviewed all her previous hospital tests, puzzled. "There's nothing abnormal! All the test results are normal, indicating her body is fine."

Charles said unhappily, "Then why doesn't she remember us? She doesn't remember anything!"

Although he hadn't encountered this in real life, he had seen it on TV. Many people had blood clots in their brains, pressing on nerves, causing memory loss.

Could Hannah be in a similar situation? Or, as Randy suggested, her brain might have suffered damage due to prolonged oxygen deprivation underwater.

Whatever the case, once the root cause was found, it could be treated accordingly. But it couldn't be like now, where everything seemed normal, yet she remembered nothing.

The doctor, unsure of the cause, said, "As of now, we don't know why the patient has amnesia. Let's do a full-body examination to find the cause. There are many types of amnesia, and we need to investigate slowly."

Hearing the doctor's words, Charles's face darkened. "How slow? A day? Five days? Ten days? A month, or a year?"

The doctor was so frightened that he broke into a sweat. "I understand you're anxious, but treating an illness can't be rushed. It's a long process!"

Charles's chest heaved with anger. But the doctor was right, and he couldn't refute it.

His mother was a doctor, and Randy had previously suffered from congenital heart disease.

He knew all too well that treating an illness was a long process. Precisely because he knew, he was worried and anxious.

Martin placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I know you're worried about Hannah, but we need to let the doctor find the cause."

Charles gritted his teeth, nodded, and said no more. Then came a long series of tests.

At first, Hannah was very resistant and uncooperative, constantly clamoring to find Tina.

Charles gently and patiently persuaded her for a long time, "Be good. After the tests, I'll take you to find Tina, okay? Tina is busy right now and can't come to see you, but she asks about you all the time. If you don't cooperate, she'll be angry!"

Under his soft and gentle persuasion, Hannah finally calmed down and cooperated with all the tests.
