Chapter 1212 Surveillance of Austin
The room fell silent.
The doctor had everything ready for the surgery. Even though Austin was already hypnotized and wouldn't wake up without Tina's command, the doctor still gave him a dose of anesthesia just to be safe.
Once the anesthesia was in his vein, the doctor started the procedure.
The tracker Charles developed this time was even smaller than the one Hannah had ingested before, about the size of a grain of rice.
The doctor easily implanted the tracker into Austin's arm with minimal effort.
The incision was so small that it only needed a single cosmetic stitch, leaving a barely noticeable scar that looked like a minor scratch.
Normally, such a small wound wouldn't even require a hospital visit or antiseptic, and would heal within half a day. However, since an object was being implanted, Charles had taken special precautions, and the doctor administered an anti-inflammatory drip to Austin.
Despite the minor nature of the surgery, Tina couldn't bear to watch as the doctor made the incision on Austin's skin. She turned her head away, feeling a pang of sorrow.
After Austin's procedure was complete, Tina lay down on the bed herself. Following the same process, the doctor prepared a dose of anesthesia for her, but she refused. "No need! I can handle it! Just go ahead!"
The doctor was taken aback. "No anesthesia? Even though it's a small surgery, it will still be painful without it!"
Tina remained unfazed. "It's fine, I can handle it!"
"But..." The doctor hesitated. It was hard to believe a woman would willingly endure such pain.
Charles understood Tina's concern. She was worried about Austin and feared that if she were under anesthesia, something might happen to him. So she chose to stay awake and endure the pain.
"Since Ms. Morris insists, please proceed as she wishes," Charles said.
The doctor gave Tina a thumbs-up. "You're the bravest woman I've ever met."
Tina smirked, thinking it was just a minor surgery. For Austin, she would endure anything, even risking her life.
Despite her resolve, when the scalpel cut into her skin, the pain was intense. Cold sweat broke out, and her lips turned pale, but she gritted her teeth and didn't make a sound.
Even the doctor was impressed. "In all my years as a doctor, I've never seen anyone as brave as you. Many men would be crying out in pain from a minor injury."
Tina managed a bitter smile, too pained to speak.
The real agony wasn't from the incision but from the removal of a small piece of flesh to make room for the tracker. The skin cut wasn't painful, but digging out flesh was excruciating.
Fortunately, it was just a small piece, and she could bear it.
Charles watched Tina endure the pain without a word, admiring her strength. He had always known she was extraordinary, capable, and composed in ways that surpassed many men.
From the first time he met her in prison, he knew she was destined for great things.
If not for her love for Austin, her achievements would have been limitless. But love had its hold on her, just as it did on Austin.
The doctor worked quickly, finishing the procedure in less than twenty minutes. He stitched up the wound and applied sterile gauze to prevent infection.
When Tina sat up, her clothes were soaked with sweat, and her face was ghostly pale.
The doctor handed her a box of antibiotics. "Austin will need injections for three days, and you'll need to take these pills for a week. One pill twice a day. As a doctor, you know that if you don't take them, the wound could get infected, and removing the tracker would be even more painful."
"I understand. Thank you," Tina said, taking a pill and swallowing it dry.
It took Tina a while to recover.
Charles felt a mix of sympathy and admiration for her. "I know you won't feel comfortable alone, so I've had the sofa in this room replaced with a sofa bed. You can sleep there tonight. Rest for now, and the doctor is in the next room if you need anything. I'll have the staff bring you some food to regain your strength."
"Thank you," Tina accepted gratefully.
Charles and the doctor left the room.
Tina looked at Austin's face, her eyes welling up.
Despite the pain in her arm, her heart felt warm.
She traced the outline of Austin's face with her fingers, a genuine smile spreading across her face.
It was all over. Soon, they could start a new life in Country S, far from past troubles.
No matter what happened, she would never leave him and would protect him always.
After ordering the maid to make some tonic food for Tina and send it up, Charles returned to Hannah's room and explained everything to Carter and Lassie.
He hadn't intended to hide anything from them, but recent events had kept him busy.
He had expected Carter and Lassie to be angry, but Carter surprised him by patting his shoulder and saying, "You did the right thing."
Charles was taken aback.
Carter continued, "Austin has made too many mistakes in the past. It's necessary to prevent future problems."
Lassie expressed concern, "But having a foreign object in his body for too long, won't it cause issues?"
She was only worried about that, not the tracking itself. She saw the benefit of knowing Austin's whereabouts at all times.
Charles reassured her, "It won't cause any harm. Just like when a wound gets debris in it, the body can adapt. Though it's a foreign object, it won't harm him."
Lassie sighed in relief. "If that's the case, we'll trust you. Carter and I believe in you."
