Chapter 203 Living Together?

As usual, Martin arrived at the hospital early. He barely had time to warm his seat before he saw Patricia walking past the ward entrance, closely followed by a male doctor, their demeanor remarkably intimate.

He immediately followed them. He just happened to overhear Patricia ask, “What is our relationship?”

Without any hesitation, the man replied, “We've lived together for so long; what do you think our relationship is?”

Rolling her eyes to the heavens, Patricia retorted, “Enough with the wisecracks! Now tell me, how did you end up coming to work at Ivara Hospital, without giving me a heads-up?”

Glancing over his shoulder, Frank teased, “You're neither my wife nor my girlfriend; why should I have to tell you?”

Unable to take any more, Patricia kicked him, “Enough is enough, okay? If you don't talk, I'm through with you.”

Frank dodged her assault with a cocky sway of his hips. "Still as rough as ever, not at all ladylike..."

Under Patricia's lethal gaze, he finally ceased his jesting. Extending his upper arm, he caught her shoulder again, pulling her to him until they were almost touching, he leaned in to whisper in her ear.

At first glance, the two appeared to be an intimate couple sharing secrets. Martin pressed his sharp lips tightly, a mix of icy disdain and fiery anger spreading throughout his being. The sight of Patricia being so close to another man, had nearly driven him to stride over and pull her away.

But after taking a step forward, fearing Patricia's anger, he stopped himself. He couldn't be impulsive again. If he was too impulsive again it would cause even more misunderstandings between him and Patricia. He couldn't afford to fight with Patricia, nor give other men a chance.

In a voice low enough for only the two of them to hear, Frank said, "I was traveling the world before, wasn't I? After some time alone, I found it meaningless, so I planned to return to Country A to pick any hospital to work at, just to pass the time.”

“That's when I got the invitation from Ivara City Hospital. They offered a generous salary, and since you guys were here, I accepted. I didn't tell you because I wanted to surprise you."

Patricia stepped back, blinking in confusion, "Why so secretive if it's nothing shameful?"

And whispering right into her ear, too. Anyone would think it was some scandalous secret!
Frank grinned down at her, "Keep it down, can't let others know how impressive I am!"

Patricia rolled her eyes at him, too tired to continue the nonsense talk. After briskly showing him around the cardiac surgery inpatient department and the outpatient clinic, she returned to her office. Since Frank was new and had no patients yet, the hospital provided him a clinic to work in.

Yesterday, the hospital had prepared his promotional materials and put his information on the official website. Once the news spread that he was at Ivara City Hospital, visitors flocked to the hospital, with appointments already lined up well over two hundred.

Patricia had a surgery scheduled that morning. After completing her rounds, she was heading to the operating room. Upon arriving at Randy's room, she found Martin sitting on the couch, silent and sullen, his face clouded with deep thoughts.

Patricia intended to ask after him but then remembered her place and swallowed her words of concern, walking straight past him.

Martin couldn’t believe it, she just left! Patricia actually just walked away. Couldn't she see he was in a bad mood? Usually, wouldn't she say something caring? Then he could take the opportunity to ask about her relationship with that man.

To his surprise, she simply ignored him, not even turning her head as she walked away. As if she couldn't care less about him. As a result, Martin felt even more dejected, feeling like he was cloaked in darkness.

It was one o'clock in the afternoon when Patricia finally emerged from the operating room.
As soon as she set foot in her office, Gladys beamed and placed a cup of coffee on her desk.

Clearly wanting to garner favor, saying, "Professor Watson, you must be exhausted from the surgery! I prepared this cup of coffee, especially for you. I've noticed you always drink black coffee, so I took the liberty of getting you black coffee."

Without hesitation, Patricia pushed the coffee back into her hands, "Sorry, but I cannot accept this cup of black coffee."

Seeing no one else around, Gladys grew bolder, pulled up a stool to sit down, leaned in close to Patricia, and whispered conspiratorially, "Actually, I have a favor to ask of you!"

Patricia raised her eyebrows in surprise, "You need a favor from me? Isn't Dr. Ward your current mentor? Why can't you ask him for help?"

Ever since Debbie's incident, Gladys had been reassigned to work under Dr. Ward. She couldn't fathom why Gladys would come to her for anything.

With a giggle and a blush spreading across her cheeks, Gladys shyly said, "Well... about Frank, Professor Taylor, you two are alumni, aren't you!"

The moment Patricia heard the name Frank, she understood. Another tiny fan of Frank's, it seemed.

Gladys continued, "Since you and Professor Taylor are schoolmates, you must know him well! You would know whether he has a girlfriend or not? What are his interests and hobbies? How does he spend his free time? What type of girl does he like? Lively? Gentle? Smart? Or beautiful?"

Patricia spoke to her coldly, "Sorry, I don't know, and if you want to find out, you should ask him yourself."

But Gladys was persistent, intent on getting an answer. "How can you not know whether he has a girlfriend or a wife after knowing him for so long!"

Patricia felt she had made herself very clear, but some people just acted as though they didn't understand, so she had to put it another way. "There's no hope for you, he's already married!"

"Ah..." Gladys' face fell in disappointment, but she quickly composed herself and continued to inquire, "So what's his wife like? Is she beautiful? A doctor as well? Do they have children?"

Patricia looked at her seriously, "Why do you need to know all this? He already has a family!"

Gladys cast her eyes down guiltily, unable to meet Patricia's gaze, and mumbled softly, "Being married doesn't mean one can't get divorced."

Her voice was low, but Patricia heard her all the same. Patricia's eyes widened in disbelief, hardly able to trust what she had heard.

"He may be willing to divorce his wife for you today, but he might just as easily divorce you for another woman tomorrow. Can you really marry a man who is so fickle that he'd abandon his spouse for a mistress? Or do you think you can be different from the other women, confident that you'll be able to keep him tied to you forever?"

Gladys said nothing, her head hanging low. Although she didn't argue with Patricia, inside she felt angry towards her.

Having performed surgery for several hours, Patricia was exhausted. She couldn't be bothered to waste any more time arguing, wanting only to rest. She stood up, took off her lab coat, and left the office without looking back.

Gladys watched her leave until her figure disappeared at the office entrance. Her hand, lying on the desk, slowly clenched into a fist, and she gritted her teeth in rage, as if she wanted to tear Patricia apart.

It was clear she already had Martin, yet she still clung on to Frank. It was just to prove how charming she was by having a foot in two boats. She simply couldn't believe that there were faithful men in the world.

If Debbie could separate Patricia and Martin, she was confident she too could break up Frank and his wife. Of course, she was determined not to end up like Debbie did.
