Chapter 819: Matchmaking Charles and Hannah

The next day.

Hannah was at her desk, chatting on the phone.

Then she spotted Stella strutting out of the CEO's private elevator. Noticing Hannah was on a call, Stella waved and waltzed right into the CEO's office.

Hannah was like, "What the heck?"

She quickly hung up, dashed into the CEO's office, and blurted, "Charles, sorry, the CFO was on the line, and I didn't see her sneak in."

Stella shot back, "Sneak in? I walked in like I owned the place! Hannah, we're tight, and you say that about me?"

Hannah felt totally betrayed.

"I was working!" Hannah protested.

Stella wasn't having it, "What's more important, work or me?"

Hannah stammered, "Of course, it's..."

Obviously, Stella was more important.

But saying that in front of Charles...

Seeing Hannah cornered, Charles's lips twitched as he looked at Stella.

Charles asked, "What do you need?"

Stella crossed her arms, leaned on his desk, and grinned, "Charles, do you know what day it is today?"

Charles felt a headache coming on. "What day?"

He had no clue if today was special.

Stella's eyes went wide, feigning shock, "It's my mom's birthday, and you didn't know."

Charles's mouth twitched. Was he supposed to know Carol's birthday?

Stella continued, "It's my mom's birthday, and my dad and I are throwing a party! You're my Charles, shouldn't you be there?"

She'd cooked up this excuse all night.

Charles asked, "Is Carol having a party today?"

Stella nodded, "Yep, six o'clock tonight. Be there or be square."

Charles sighed, "Alright!"

As family, he should be there for Carol's birthday.

Plus, Maximilian and Carol had always been good to him. No way he could skip it.

Seeing her plan work, Stella was thrilled.

Charles was still confused.

Stella added, "After work, drive Hannah over with you."

Hannah, standing by, was taken aback and pointed to herself, "Me? I have to go too?"

Stella turned, hooked her arm around Hannah's shoulder, and said, "You're my bestie. Shouldn't you go? My mom treats you like a daughter. If you don't go, she'll be bummed."

Hannah sighed, "Alright!"

Stella made it sound like she'd be a jerk if she didn't go.

Stella said, "It's settled then! Six o'clock, see you at my place! Don't be late!"

"Okay!" Charles and Hannah said together.

Stella's eyes flicked between them, thinking they were a perfect match, even speaking in sync.

Charles and Hannah felt a bit jittery under her gaze.

Her look was kinda weird.

"I've said my piece, so I'm out! You two get back to work," Stella said, waving as she walked backward to the door.

"Don't forget to come, and if you finish early, just head out. Don't be late, or my mom will flip!"

With that, she opened the door and left with a grin.

Hannah muttered, "Don't you think she's acting a bit off?"

Charles rubbed his temples and sighed, "That's just Stella being Stella. Don't sweat it, get back to work!"

"Okay!" Hannah replied.

Hannah thought Stella was acting strange, but knowing she meant well, she let it slide.

They couldn't be late for Carol's first birthday celebration. Charles wrapped up work early and left with Hannah.

Charles parked in the underground garage.

Hannah took the CEO's private elevator down with him.

Charles, being a gentleman, opened the passenger door for her.

Hannah blushed and said shyly, "I'll sit in the back. It feels weird sitting in the front."

Charles chuckled, "You want me to be your chauffeur?"

Hannah misunderstood.

She said, "I can drive too! Got my license at eighteen. If you trust me, I can take the wheel."

Charles was amused by her innocence.

He smiled, "If you drive, I might not survive! Get in, I don't have any other thoughts."

Hannah said, "Thanks, Charles!"

With no other choice, Hannah got in.

What they didn't know was that as they drove out of the underground garage, the employees started gossiping.

[Guess what I just saw in the parking lot?]

[What? Spill it.]

[I saw Charles personally open the passenger door for Hannah, and they drove off together.]

[No way, isn't the passenger seat for girlfriends?]

[Yeah! And Charles opened the door for her himself.]

[So, Charles is her driver now?]

[Yep! Charles was driving, and she was in the passenger seat.]

[She got to ride in Charles's car. They must be a thing.]

[So, they really are a couple?]

[I'll bet a hundred bucks they are. Never seen Charles treat any woman like that.]

[I'm in for a hundred too, they're definitely a couple.]

[If she's Charles's girlfriend, the PR department is screwed. They messed with Charles's girl, so heads are gonna roll.]

[Totally! They might all get canned soon.]

[That's why you gotta be careful. Piss off the wrong person, and you're toast.]

[Exactly! Good thing we caught on early and didn't mess up.]

They chatted excitedly, while no one from the PR department dared to speak, hiding in the corner, full of regret.
