Chapter 725 The Hunt for Hunter
Hunter had no clue how long he'd been out cold.
When he came to, the first thing he noticed was the TV blaring.
"The Koch family, the wealthiest in Country Y, was robbed this morning. They're offering a five-million-dollar reward for any information. Contact the police if you see anything."
Hunter's eyes darted to the TV.
His own photo was plastered on the screen, with the reward amount in bold.
Rock was lounging on the couch, fiddling with a tiny device, barely bigger than a pinky nail, while listening to the news.
"Quite the spectacle! If we hadn't been tipped off, we might've bought it!"
They'd launched such a high-profile search.
Anyone foolish would think the Koch family was hell-bent on finding the culprits.
In reality, it was just a ruse to throw them off, then use the tracker to nab them all at once.
Hearing movement behind him, Rock didn't even turn around, "Awake?"
Hunter groaned, "Yeah."
Rock said, "Your wound's bandaged and bleeding's stopped. You're not in any immediate danger. Just keep up with the dressings and meds."
Hunter lay back on the sofa, eyeing the device in Rock's hand, "Is that the tracker?"
Rock nodded, "Yep. Found it in the chunk of flesh they cut from your arm."
Hunter clenched his good hand into a fist, he asked, "Is it still working?"
Rock snorted, a hint of sarcasm in his eyes, "Of course, it is. Since they planted it on us, we might also come it into play."
Hunter got the drift, "You're gonna work it to our advantage?"
Rock twirled the tracker between his fingers, eyes cold, "No one messes with me."
Hunter smirked, "So, you can't let those who played tricks on you off easily."
Rock's eyes flashed with a thought. He suddenly stood up and headed for the door, "You stay here and rest. I've got something to take care of."
Rock didn't say where he was going to, but Hunter had guessed his purpose.
Rock was too proud to let anyone play him for a fool.
Martin was in deep trouble now.
Meanwhile, in the study of Silver Birch Sanctuary.
Martin and Sebastian were sitting in front of a computer screen, watching a map with a slowly moving red dot.
Martin pointed at the dot, "That's the tracker I planted in Hunter's wound. They're in this area now."
Sebastian nodded, "I've already sent more people to search, just like you said."
Martin nodded.
Just then, the red dot stopped moving.
Both men held their breath, eyes fixed on the screen.
Sebastian broke the silence, "Could this be their hideout?"
Martin, unfamiliar with the area, asked, "Where is this?"
Sebastian explained, "It used to be an industrial zone. No one goes there now except for the workers. Two years ago, there was an accident. Lots of people died, so it got abandoned. There was almost no one around becase people think there is cursed."
Martin thought for a moment, "If that's the case, it makes sense. Remote, desolate, uninhabited."
Sebastian asked, "What now? Should we send people to grab them?"
Martin shook his head, "No rush. Let's watch a bit longer. If they stay put all night, we'll move in at 3 A.M."
Sebastian hesitated, "Are you sure this is their hideout? Should we wait a bit longer?"
Martin said confidently, "When they rescued Hunter, the first thing they'd do is meet up with their crew and then figure out how to leave. So, early morning is prime time. Between 2 and 3 in the moring people are the most tired and in deep sleep. If I'm right, they'll make their move then."
Sebastian nodded, "Got it."
Martin added, "From now until 2 a.m. is the most important time."
Sebastian nodded again, "Understood."
Suddenly, Martin looked around the room, a thought crossing his mind, "Are there any cameras or bugs in here?"
Sebastian grinned, "Relax, I've had the whole place swept. This is the safest spot on the Koch estate."
Martin finally let out a relieved smile.
What they didn't know was that someone outside the door was eavesdropping, ear pressed against the door.
Though the conversation was muffled, the person outside caught the crucial details. He quickly slipped away to inform Hunter, relaying what they'd overheard.
"They think you're hiding in the industrial area on the outskirts. They're planning to nab you at 3 a.m. Be careful."
Hunter's eyes narrowed dangerously, "Got it."
"I gotta go. It's risky to talk for long."
With that, they hung up and deleted the call record.
Time flew by.
Soon, it was early morning.
Martin and Sebastian took turns watching the computer.
Since arriving at that location, the red dot on the screen hadn't moved.
It was almost certain this was their hideout.
Martin turned to Sebastian, "Sebastian, it's time to go."
Sebastian nodded. Already dressed in plain clothes, he was ready to roll.
Martin shut down the computer and opened the tracker app on his phone.
As they left the study, they ran into Patricia.
Seeing them about to leave, Patricia anxiously grabbed Martin, "Where are you going? Did you find Hunter?"
Martin didn't want to lie to her. He knew she'd worry more if he did. So, he decided to tell the truth.
"Yeah, we found Hunter's hideout. I need to capture him now."
Patricia worriedly held his hand, "I'll go with you."
Seeing the worry in her eyes, Martin smiled gently and patted her head, "Don't worry, I'll stay in the car. His crew is skilled, so we need pros to catch them. I'll be fine. You should stay here and wait for me."
Patricia was still uneasy, "But Hunter's so cunning. Will it be that easy? His two accomplices are tough. I'm scared something might happen to you."
Martin laughed, "I've got a solid plan. You stay here and wait for me. If you come along, I'll be more worried and won't be able to focus."
Patricia bit her lip, looking down, not saying a word.
Martin coaxed gently, "We need to get rid of Hunter. As long as he's around, he's a threat. I can't let him endanger you and the kids."
Hearing this, Patricia reluctantly let go of his hand, "Alright, I'll wait for you here. Just come back safe."
Martin nodded, promising confidently, "I will. I'll call you as soon as it's over to let you know I'm safe."
Patricia nodded and sent Martin and Sebastian to the gate. She didn't turn around to go back into the house until their car disappeared from her sight.
