Chapter 708 Taking Hair for DNA Test Again
The two cars arrived at Silver Birch Sanctuary almost simultaneously.
Joe felt guilty toward Susan. After getting out of the car, he walked over to her in a fawning manner, just about to say something, but Susan had already started walking toward the underground wine cellar.
At this moment, Hunter was lying on the ground, covered in wounds. There were two black-clad bodyguards guarding both inside and outside the wine cellar.
Seeing Joe and the others come in, Hunter gave Joe a sinister smile.
"How do you plan to personally kill me?" Hunter asked.
Joe was both angry and furious, his body trembling, but he couldn't do anything to Hunter.
Susan, however, seemed not to hear Hunter's words. She glared at Hunter viciously, wishing she could tear him to pieces to avenge Billy.
But remembering that Hunter was Joe's illegitimate son, Susan held back, gritting her teeth and saying to Joe, "I can take back what I just said and not make you personally kill him, but..."
She paused deliberately.
"But he killed someone and should be punished by the law! He must bear all the consequences! Send him to prison and let him face legal punishment, and I can pretend none of this ever happened."
Joe was pleased to hear her compromise, but...
"Let's put this matter on hold for now! I..."
Hearing Joe's initial words, Susan thought Joe was unwilling and instantly got angry.
"You said you only care about me and this family. I've already compromised, what more do you want? I'm telling you, he killed my son, and I will never let him go! If you insist on protecting him, then our marriage is over."
Joe panicked.
"That's not what I meant, let me finish. I..."
Susan glared at Joe, wanting to see how he would try to explain.
Seeing Susan's expression, Joe became even more anxious.
Unfortunately, before he could finish, Martin interrupted, saying, "Mrs. Hill, please leave this matter to Mr. Hill and me. We will give you a satisfactory answer."
Susan was already angry because Joe suddenly had an illegitimate son.
Now, hearing Joe and the others shirk responsibility for dealing with the murderer, she became even angrier and immediately exploded.
"If you won't send him to prison, then I'll kill him myself to avenge my son."
With that, she somehow found the strength to pick up a small can of vintage red wine from the ground and smashed it down on Hunter.
Hunter's forehead immediately split open, and a lot of blood gushed from the wound.
Joe was startled and instinctively pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, pressing it against Hunter's wound to stop the bleeding.
Before the paternity test, Joe only felt hatred towards Hunter.
Even if Hunter died in front of him, Joe wouldn't have blinked an eye; he would have felt it was well-deserved.
Now, seeing Hunter injured, Joe felt a twinge of concern.
Seeing Joe's actions, Susan completely broke down.
"Joe, you..."
Susan was so angry she couldn't speak, and after a long time, she said, "Is he more important to you now than Carol and me? Have you already accepted him as your son? You..."
Joe hurriedly said, "Of course not! Don't be angry, let me explain! In my heart, you and Carol are my real family! Whether or not he's my son, he killed Billy, and I won't let him go."
Martin realized that continuing the conversation was just a waste of time.
The urgent matter was not whether to kill Hunter but to first determine if Hunter was indeed Joe's illegitimate son.
Fearing that Susan's continued outburst would complicate things further, Martin gave Carol a pleading look.
Carol quickly grabbed Susan. "Mom, let's go. Give Dad a chance to prove himself. I believe in him, and as his wife, you should believe him, too."
As she spoke, she began to pull Susan out.
"Let's go. If you stay here, Dad won't be able to focus on dealing with him!"
Susan was reluctant to leave.
"I want to see him avenge Billy with my own eyes. I'm not leaving."
Carol forcibly dragged Susan toward the door.
"Mom, you're emotionally unstable right now and prone to impulsive actions. Let's go outside and calm down. Once we're calm, we can come back in."
Susan continued to struggle.
Unfortunately, Susan hadn't been eating or sleeping well recently, and her mental state was poor. She didn't have as much strength as Carol, who eventually managed to pull her out.
The wine cellar finally quieted down.
Joe felt overwhelmed, his temples throbbing.
Seeing how he had driven them mad, Hunter laughed unscrupulously.
Joe was very angry.
Martin was tired of wasting words and directly reached out to pull a few strands of Hunter's hair.
Before leaving, Joe couldn't help but threaten Hunter through gritted teeth. "You'd better not be lying to me, or I'll make sure you die without a place to be buried."
Faced with Joe's threat, Hunter remained indifferent, smiling mockingly.
Joe hated Hunter's smug look, as if he had everyone in the palm of his hand.
However, Joe couldn't do anything to him.
Martin said, "Mr. Hill, let's focus on the important matter!"
Joe reluctantly withdrew his gaze and left with Martin.
After a whole day of running around, it was already evening.
As Joe and Martin reached the front door, a man bumped into them, causing them to spin half a circle before regaining their balance. The hair sample Joe had been holding tightly fell to the ground.
The man who had bumped into them quickly picked up the sample and handed it to Joe, apologizing profusely.
"Sorry, I was in a hurry and didn't see where I was going. This is your item."
Joe took the sample, carefully checked it for damage, and said, "It's fine, you can go."
"Thank you." The man thanked them and hurried off.
Martin glanced at his watch and urged, saying, "We need to hurry; they're about to close."
"OK!" Joe nodded and quickened his pace toward the testing center with Martin.
Just like last time, Joe and Martin stayed nearby, watching the testing process with their own eyes.
The number of people in the testing center dwindled.
All departments had closed for the day.
Joe's palms were sweaty with nervousness.
He had never felt time pass so slowly.
Every minute of waiting was excruciating.
Time ticked by.
As night fell completely, the results finally came out.
Joe eagerly took the results from the examiner, skipped the data analysis, and went straight to the last page to see the conclusion.
The moment he saw the results, Joe was stunned.
