Chapter 860: Hannah's Agonizing Torment
Austin, being sharp, immediately sensed something was off with her.
Austin asked, "What's up? You look kinda down. Someone mess with you? Or did work suck today? Did the other employees give you a hard time?"
Hannah was taken aback, "Am I upset?"
Austin grinned softly, "You didn't notice? Just look at yourself; it's practically written all over your face that you're in a bad mood and not to be messed with."
Hannah instinctively touched her face.
Was she really in a bad mood? Why hadn't she noticed?
Austin continued, "Come on, spill it! If the other employees are giving you grief, I'll tell Charles! With the bond between his dad and mine, he'll definitely help you out."
Hearing him mention Charles, Hannah felt even more irritated and snapped, "He's not at the office."
Her tone was full of resentment, something she hadn't even noticed herself.
And at that moment, her mind kept questioning, 'Why isn't Charles replying to my messages? Did he not see them, or does he not want to reply? Why doesn't he want to reply to my messages? Is he mad because I didn't take care of him yesterday?' The more she thought about it, the more chaotic her mind became, and the worse her mood got.
But Austin picked up on it, his brow furrowing slightly, "Where did he go?"
It seemed the issue was related to Charles. Did Charles mess with her?
Hannah said irritably, "He went back to Sunset Bay."
Austin was stunned. At first, he just thought Charles wasn't at work, but he didn't expect him to have gone back to Sunset Bay.
Austin asked, "When did he leave? Why didn't he mention it when we went out the day before yesterday?"
And last night, when he left Hannah's apartment, he had still seen Charles's car in the underground garage.
"At four in the morning today," Hannah, in a bad mood, spoke listlessly and had no desire to talk.
Austin raised an eyebrow, unable to suppress the curve of his lips.
A four a.m. flight. It meant Charles flew back to Sunset Bay overnight.
According to the timing, Charles must have thought that he and Hannah had slept together during the few hours he was at Hannah's place and couldn't handle the shock, so he went back to Sunset Bay!
It seemed he had really pushed Charles this time.
Was Charles retreating in the face of difficulty? Was he choosing to withdraw from their love triangle? If he sensibly backed off, maybe Austin would show mercy and spare him. After all, he didn't want to resort to killing.
"Did he say when he'd be back?" Austin asked, pretending to be casual.
Hannah replied, "I don't know! Wyatt said that every time he goes back, he stays for a long time. As for how long, Mr. Watson decides! He doesn't know."
Thinking about not knowing when she'd see Charles again, she felt a void in her heart.
Austin's smile grew wider, "With Charles gone, you should be happy! No one will be around to boss you, and your workload will be lighter. It's a good thing!"
Hannah, already in a bad mood, couldn't hold back and retorted, "I'm here to work, to learn work experience, not to have fun! If that were the case, I might as well stay home, which would be more comfortable!"
Austin was a bit stunned.
Charles's departure seemed to have a significant impact on Hannah.
It appeared that Charles had unknowingly become very important to her.
Luckily, he had noticed early.
If he had realized after their relationship had stabilized, it would have been too late.
Hannah realized she was too emotional, rubbed her face hard with both hands, and apologized, "Sorry! Maybe you're right. I'm just in a bad mood today! I don't want to go out. Can you take me home?"
If she stuck around Austin any longer, she was scared she might say something even more hurtful. She didn't want that.
Knowing Charles had left, Austin was stoked and quickly agreed, "Alright, if that's the case, go home and get some rest!"
"Okay!" Hannah nodded, stopped talking, and leaned back in her seat, staring out the window in a daze.
Austin glanced at her through the rearview mirror and didn't say another word the entire way.
After arriving at the apartment, Austin walked Hannah to the door.
"Bye, rest well, and if you need anything..." Before he could finish, the door had already closed.
Austin was silent. His hand, hanging by his side, clenched into a fist. Though he was angry and jealous, he was happy thinking that Charles would no longer interfere with his and Hannah's relationship.
Finally, he had driven Charles away.
If Charles had any self-respect and shame, he wouldn't cling to Hannah anymore.
Great.
Hannah might be upset for a while, but she would soon accept it. A relationship of less than ten days couldn't be that deep. It was just a momentary infatuation.
Austin was so happy he almost started humming.
Inside, Hannah was different too him. She curled up on the couch, holding her phone, repeatedly locking and unlocking the screen. After hesitating for a long time, she finally gathered the courage to call Charles.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later."
Switched off? So, he wasn't ignoring her messages; he just hadn't seen them? Maybe he forgot to turn his phone on after landing? Maybe his phone had run down?
Thinking that his phone was off and he wasn't intentionally ignoring her messages, Hannah felt a bit better and kept comforting herself.
Once he turned his phone on, he'd see her messages and reply. Yes! He would definitely reply.
But what she didn't expect was that her self-comfort would last for three days. Three whole days. Charles was completely out of touch. Every time she called, his phone was always off. He didn't reply to her messages either. It was as if Charles had disappeared, leaving no trace.
The little bit of hope in Hannah's heart gradually faded, and she became more anxious and irritable, feeling helpless and unsure of what to do. Hannah stood at Wyatt's office door, hesitated for a long time, and finally raised her hand to knock.
Soon, Wyatt's voice came from inside, "Come in!" Hannah opened the door and walked in, immediately hearing a familiar voice.
Charles said, "I've marked the problematic areas in red. Have the design department revise them according to my requirements and send them to my email once done."
Wyatt, sitting behind his desk, looked up when he heard the door open and then replied, "Got it! I'll have them do it right away."
Charles nodded, "Good! If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
Wyatt replied, "Alright! I'll send it to your email once it's revised!"
Charles said, "No problem!"
With that, the video call ended.
Hannah stood at the door like a fool, her feet feeling like they were filled with lead, unable to move, and her face was pale.
Wyatt was on a video call with Charles?
The Charles she hadn't been able to reach for three days, Wyatt had been in contact with all along.
So, it was just her who hadn't received any messages from Charles, just her who was worried, while everyone else was living their lives as usual?
Why? Why wasn't Charles contacting her? Didn't he even have time to send one message? Or did he just not want to reply to her?
All her emotions spiraled out of control when she thought of this possibility. She couldn't breathe under the suppression and pain in these days and she felt deeply distressed.
