Chapter 840: Giving Up
Hannah was sprawled out on the couch, totally stuck, so she just chilled and dozed off right there.
Hannah shrugged, "He's been all jittery 'cause I've been hanging with Mr. Watson a lot. When I told him yesterday I was going on vacay, he was like, 'I'll come too.' I mean, it's just a trip, so I was like, whatever, the more the merrier."
Stella plopped down next to her, "So why didn't you give me a heads-up?"
Hannah looked confused, "I didn't think it was a big deal! That's why I didn't bother telling you! What's the big deal? You mad 'cause I didn't tell you? Didn't think you'd be that petty!"
Stella just rolled her eyes.
She couldn't spill the beans that this whole trip was a setup to get Hannah and Charles together! If she did, Hannah would flip out!
And then good luck getting her to come along next time.
Hannah hugged her waist, grinning, "Come on, don't be mad! I think it's cool! The more, the merrier!"
Stella smiled back, too lazy to argue, and pushed her hand away to start packing.
Charles seemed super chill earlier.
But who knows if he was really chill or just faking it.
Nah, she still needed to find a way to explain things to Charles.
After packing, Stella made up an excuse to go to Charles's room.
Charles was on the phone when he opened the door.
Seeing Stella, he stepped aside to let her in and kept talking on the balcony.
For once, Stella didn't make a scene and just sat on the couch, waiting.
The call seemed pretty important, and Charles talked forever.
By the time he was done, Stella was almost out cold on the couch.
He tossed his phone on the table and said, "What do you want? Need something?"
Stella grabbed his sleeve, looking all pitiful, "Charles, I had no clue Austin would show up today. If I knew, I would've stopped him."
Charles wasn't planning to bring it up again; what's done is done.
Seeing her bring it up, he pulled a chair over, sat down, and looked at her with no expression. "So, you knew from the start that Austin is Hannah's boyfriend?"
Stella knew there was no point in hiding it anymore. The truth was out!
She just nodded.
"Yeah, I've always known Austin is Hannah's boyfriend!"
Charles raised an eyebrow, crossed his arms, and leaned back.
"Introducing someone else's girlfriend to me. Stella, what were you thinking? You know that's messed up, right?"
Stella thought he'd be mad about her setting him up with a girl who had a boyfriend.
But she didn't expect him to be all about ethics.
For a second, she was speechless.
Stella explained, "It's 'cause Austin's a jerk! He thinks just 'cause he's Hannah's boyfriend, he can run her life and make all the decisions! Hannah's her own person; she deserves respect! I don't like him and think she deserves better, so I wanted to find her a good guy! And she looks like Violet! You two are perfect together!"
Charles sighed inwardly.
Honestly, when he found out Austin was Hannah's fiancé, he was kinda bummed.
But he quickly shoved those feelings down.
Hearing Stella's words, he just frowned a bit and reminded her, "No matter how they're doing, that's their business. Only they know if they're right for each other! You can't just decide to find her a new boyfriend based on your own judgment! If Hannah feels they're not right, she'll break up with him on her own. You shouldn't mess with their relationship. How are you any different from Austin?"
Even though he and Austin never really clicked.
Austin's character was still solid.
Carter and Ryan raised him well; he wasn't a bad guy.
Plus, over the years, Austin made his own way without leaning on Carter, earning scholarships and moving up through his own skills. A guy like that wouldn't have a bad character.
Stella, feeling wronged, said, "That's 'cause Hannah doesn't know! She thinks Austin's doing it for her own good, but he's not! He just wants to control her! Only Hannah's good nature can put up with it."
Charles frowned even more.
"Stella, I said, don't meddle in other people's business! It's their private matter."
Stella suddenly had an idea, her eyes darting around. She looked at him and said, "Charles, don't tell me you don't care! When Austin introduced himself earlier, I saw the disappointment in your eyes."
As she said this, Stella kept her eyes locked on Charles.
Actually, she hadn't seen anything; she was just trying to trick him. And it worked.
After hearing her words, a flash of disappointment crossed Charles's face, quickly disappearing.
Even though it vanished fast, Stella still caught it.
"Charles, if you like her, go after her. How will you know if it won't work if you don't try? Besides, I can tell Hannah likes you too! She's just a bit slow and hasn't realized it yet."
Charles shook his head, "No need! My heart belongs to Violet!"
Even if he had a slight liking for Hannah, it vanished at that moment.
He didn't like taking what belonged to others.
Stella, getting desperate, squatted beside Charles and grabbed his arm, "Charles, I really think you and Hannah are a better match than Austin and her! You respect her, understand her, and support her! Austin's the complete opposite! Hannah will regret marrying him! You don't want to see her unhappy, do you?"
Charles stood up, pulled her up from the floor, and pushed her to the door.
"I said, this matter is over. I don't want to hear you mention it again!"
With that, he opened the door and pushed Stella out.
Stella refused to leave, clinging to the doorframe.
"Charles, I'm serious. If you don't act, you'll regret it later. You really will."
Charles smiled, prying her fingers off one by one.
Stella was forced to let go of the doorframe.
"Go back to your room and rest, then let me know the itinerary!"
With that, he forcefully closed the door, completely shutting Stella out.
"Charles, Charles." Stella still didn't give up, knocking on the door for a while. When she realized Charles wouldn't open it, she left disappointed.
Charles stood inside, his smile suddenly disappearing, looking at the balcony with a long sigh.
Since Violet's disappearance, this was the first time he had feelings for another girl.
And this was the result.
It seemed he was destined to be alone for the rest of his life.
