Chapter 920 Quentin and Lisa's change of attitude
A card with no spending limit.
Fifteen million bucks.
A freakin' Rolls-Royce.
Lisa had never even dreamed of these things, and she was so stunned she dropped whatever she was holding onto the table.
She thought Charles had either lost his mind or she was in some crazy dream.
Lisa blurted out, "Have you been binge-watching too many TV shows? You think you're loaded or something?"
Charles knew they might think he was full of it, so he got all serious, "My name's Charles Watson, and I started IntelliMerge Technologies. My dad's Martin Langley from Country D, and my mom's Patricia Watson, a big-shot cardiologist. My twin brother, who’s here with me, is the hottest pianist in the country. My sister, Fannie Watson, is a huge celeb in the entertainment world. I’ve got another sister, Maria Langley, who’s a jewelry designer and sculptor. And my youngest bro, Declan Langley, is studying business administration."
Usually, he hated bragging about this stuff, but today, to get them to accept him, he had to lay it all out.
Thanks to his powerhouse family.
Lisa thought she was in some kind of dream.
Lisa asked, "Who? Who did you say?"
She felt like she’d heard those names before, but the shock was so intense her mind went blank, and she couldn’t place them.
Quentin was way calmer and asked, "Your dad is Martin?"
He’d lived in Country D for decades; how could he not know Martin, the richest dude in Country D?
He was even more impressive than Carter!
Lisa grabbed Quentin’s arm and asked, "Who’s Martin?"
Quentin replied, annoyed, "Martin, you don’t know? He’s from the Langley family in Sunset Bay!"
With that nudge, Lisa finally remembered. Before she could react, she heard Charles nod and say, "Yep, my dad’s Martin! I’m the eldest son of the Langley family. I started IntelliMerge Technologies at sixteen and now I’m the CEO."
At this, she totally lost it and almost fell off her chair.
Quentin was also pretty floored.
The Langley family, any one of them, was like untouchable!
They were all big shots.
Each one was a powerhouse.
He actually ran into so many big shots at once.
Was he dreaming?
After laying out his family creds, Charles got to the point, "I really like Hannah, and I hope you’ll let us be together. If you agree, I can promise you any reasonable request."
Even though Charles had spelled it out, Lisa still couldn’t wrap her head around it, "Are you for real? Are you really Charles?"
Whether from fear or shock, her words were all jumbled.
Charles nodded, "I recently gave a graduation speech at D University, and Hannah did an interview with me. You can find it on their campus network. If you don’t believe me, ask Hannah to show you the interview."
Because he usually kept a low profile and hated interviews or being on TV. That interview was only circulated on campus and didn’t go public.
He had long set up blocks so that any info or interviews about him wouldn’t get out unless he wanted them to.
Lisa didn’t doubt him; hearing him say this, she kept nodding, "I believe you, how could I not believe you!"
He even had a card with no spending limit; how could she doubt him!
She just couldn’t believe that Hannah, who she usually didn’t think much of, would know such a big shot.
The kicker was, Charles wanted to marry her.
Charles said earnestly, "I really like Hannah. I know you might not warm up to me right away, but just tell me what I gotta do to win you over!"
"Accept? Of course, we accept." Lisa barely hesitated and jumped in right after Charles finished talking.
A son-in-law this awesome? She'd be nuts to turn him down.
Lisa grinned, "I believe you're genuine about Hannah! I’m all for you two being together. No objections here! You can tie the knot right away! I think Hannah has the papers. You could get hitched tomorrow."
She was terrified that if they waited another day, some other chick would snatch Charles up.
Charles was floored by her sudden 180.
Quentin's mouth twitched, and he was fuming at Lisa's reaction.
Even though he was super impressed with Charles in every way, Charles was perfect, and no one could compare.
But Hannah wasn’t their biological daughter!
"Mr. Watson," Quentin started, his tone turning all respectful, even calling him Mr. Watson.
"Mr. Watson, the thing is, even though you’re amazing, Hannah’s from a regular working-class family and really isn’t a good match for you!"
Charles was taken aback. Quentin went on, "Look, you’ve got a great family background, good manners, you look sharp, and you’re super capable! Someone as awesome as you should be with someone equally awesome! Hannah’s pretty average-looking. She doesn’t have a fancy degree, and she doesn’t have any special skills. We’re not exactly well-off and can’t give her a strong family background."
He was trying to let him down easy.
Lisa was so anxious she kept tugging at his clothes under the table, giving him signals.
Lisa thought, 'A rich son-in-law like this doesn’t come around often; no way I’m letting him slip away!'
Charles wasn’t dumb; he got the hint and wasn’t mad. He smiled and said, "I don’t care! My parents don’t care about my wife’s family background either. As long as we like each other and she’s got good character, my parents will accept her."
Quentin still wanted to object, but he couldn’t think of a good reason.
Charles had already laid it all out; if he kept refusing, it’d be ungrateful. If Charles got pissed and did something, he’d be in big trouble.
Austin and Charles, he couldn’t afford to piss off either of them!
Plus, Lisa kept kicking him under the table.
Seeing him stay quiet, Lisa immediately smiled and said, "We agree!"
Quentin stayed silent.
Seeing them finally agree, Charles happily poured them some wine.
Charles said, "Thank you, I’ll take good care of Hannah and never let her suffer!"
Lisa drank the wine he poured without a second thought.
Lisa replied, "Of course, we believe you! Whenever you have time, we can have a family dinner to make it official."
As she spoke, she discreetly pocketed the card on the table.
Charles immediately said, "Tomorrow, I’ll make the reservation."
Lisa quickly nodded, "Great!"
After she finished speaking, she pulled out her phone and said, all flattering, "Let’s exchange contact info! It’ll be easier to stay in touch."
Charles nodded and swapped contact info with them.
Quentin looked serious, but even though he felt it was a bit off, his actions said otherwise. Thinking about Charles’s status, he couldn’t help but want to get on his good side.
