Chapter 22 The Video With The Baby Was Seen By The Ex-Husband
When Martin returned to the ward, Patricia was chatting with Randy while hugging him.
"Mommy, do you know? When you're not with me, I miss you so much. I look at the photos, and every time I do, it feels like you're right here with me."
Patricia glanced at the photo that Randy had carefully placed under his pillow, her nose tingling with the urge to cry.
"Randy, I'm sorry that I haven't been with you all these years. Do you blame me?"
Randy shook his head gently. "I don't blame Mommy. I know you must have had important things to do. But now you're back, right?"
His understanding touched Patricia deeply. "Don't worry, Mommy will never leave you again. I'll always be by your side."
Randy nodded with determination, his cute face blushing. Seeing this heartwarming scene, Martin couldn't help but feel a strange sense of longing. If every day could be like this, it wouldn't be so bad.
He cleared his throat and spoke in a firm voice, "After Randy finishes his injection, can he go home?"
"Hmm?" Patricia looked at him, momentarily not understanding his meaning.
Martin walked over, gently ruffling Randy's hair, and said, "It's been a month, and he's been in the hospital for quite a while now. Can he leave soon? I know Debbie mentioned that it might be better for his condition to stay in the hospital, but he really doesn't want to. If it doesn't affect his treatment, I hope he can spend the nights at home and come back to the hospital in the mornings."
Patricia furrowed her brow. "Debbie said he can't go home?"
Randy expressed his dissatisfaction, pouting slightly. "Yes, Auntie won't let me go home! But I really don't want to stay in the hospital. I want to go home."
Patricia sneered inwardly and said, "Of course, you can go home. We just need to be a bit cautious about a few things, and everything will be fine."
Randy was so excited that he almost jumped up. "Yay! I can finally go home! Mommy, please come home with me! I don't want to be apart from you."
Patricia froze. "Me? Go home with you?"
Seeing her hesitation, Randy's eyes welled up with tears, making him appear like a pitiful little bunny. "You don't want to?"
Unable to bear seeing him disappointed, Patricia reluctantly agreed and then turned to Martin, seeking his approval. "Mr. Langley, is it alright if I go with Randy? If not, I can bring him to my place."
Randy looked at Martin with hopeful eyes. Martin, trying to maintain his usual aloof demeanor, haughtily replied, "Fine, whatever."
"That's great, Daddy, I love you so much!" Randy couldn't contain his joy and hugged Martin tightly, giving him a kiss on the face, leaving a trail of drool.
Martin wiped the drool off his face, feeling a mix of emotions. He realized that this arrangement had its advantages: it allowed him to keep a close eye on Patricia and investigate her connection with 'C,' while also bringing happiness to his son.
After completing Randy's treatment, they finally returned home. Martin had urgent work to attend to, so he headed to his study.
It had been five years since she last set foot in this place. The entire house had undergone renovations, and the staff had been replaced, except for the housekeeper, Barbara, who had remained loyal.
When Patricia and Randy entered the grand hall hand in hand, Barbara couldn't believe her eyes. She rubbed them vigorously, convinced it was an illusion, but when she realized it was real, tears welled up.
"Madam, you've finally come back! Young Master Randy has missed you every day."
Standing in the grand hall, Patricia felt like she had entered a different world. She never imagined returning here.
"Barbara, it's been a long time. How have you been these past few years?" Patricia greeted warmly.
Barbara's eyes glistened with tears as she nodded enthusiastically. "I've been doing very well! And you, Madam? Have you been well?"
Patricia's smile wavered as she recalled her time away. "I've been fine, Barbara, just missing Randy day and night."
Barbara tried to console her, saying, "Don't worry, Mr. Langley has taken excellent care of Young Master these past few years. Randy has changed a lot because of him."
Patricia smiled, albeit with a touch of self-mockery, but she didn't elaborate on her thoughts. If Randy had been taken care of so well, why was he still so sick? Congenital heart disease was one thing, but there were other issues too.
The mother and son had intended to spend more time together, but Randy eagerly tugged Patricia upstairs, eager to catch up on lost time.
"Mommy, let me show you your room first, and then we can explore the rest of the house. Daddy has set up a beautiful pergola in the yard with wisteria vines. It looks stunning when it's in bloom."
"Wisteria flowers?" Patricia's said, surprised.
She briefly entertained a fleeting thought, quickly dismissing it as absurd. Martin couldn't have planted wisteria vines because of her. He had no way of knowing her preference for wisteria.
After Randy familiarized Patricia with the house, he led her to the garden. A grand pergola covered with fifty purple wisteria vines came into view.
Wisteria was currently in season, and the garden was a sea of purple blossoms. A gentle breeze carried the sweet fragrance of the flowers, and the vines swayed gracefully with the wind, capturing the hearts of anyone who gazed upon them.
"When were this wisteria planted?" Patricia asked.
"They've always been here," Randy replied.
Patricia was taken aback. Had they been here for a long time? Randy proceeded to guide Patricia around the yard. In addition to the wisteria vines, several red date trees had been planted.
It was the season for the fruit, and the trees were heavy with crisp and sweet red dates.
"Daddy loves eating winter red dates the most. Every year, when the red dates ripen, he personally picks them," Randy said.
Patricia felt a moment of confusion. If it wasn't certain that Martin had always liked Debbie, she would have suspected that he liked her. After all, Martin never touched such inexpensive fruits like winter red dates. Both wisteria and winter red dates happened to be her favorites.
Patricia couldn't help but chuckle at her own absurd thoughts. She brushed them aside and continued exploring the yard with Randy, sharing lunch together, and eventually returning to their room for a nap. Randy, full of excitement and energy, took a while to settle down for his nap.
Once Randy was sound asleep, Patricia tiptoed to the balcony and initiated a video call with Charles. It took some time for the video to connect, and when Charles appeared on the screen, he seemed drowsy, with heavy eyelids and a lack of energy in his voice.
"Mommy, what do you need?" Charles asked.
Patricia asked sympathetically, "Sweetie, are you very tired?"
Charles shook his head. "It's not because of you, Mommy. It's because of that damn Dad. His employees chased me all night, and I couldn't get any sleep."
Originally, all he needed to do was to start a trending topic and activate a program to shut down the computer, then go to sleep. But damn Dad had gone to great lengths to remove the trending topic. In order to maintain the heat, he had to sit in front of the computer all night. It was exhausting.
Patricia didn't want to disturb him further. "Okay, then get some rest. We'll talk later."
"Okay, bye-bye." Charles nodded sleepily, puckering his lips as he kissed the screen, then his head tilted to the side, and he fell asleep even before ending the video call.
Patricia softly chuckled, about to end the call, when an abrupt chill ran down her spine. She turned around to find Martin standing behind her, uncertain of how much he had heard or what he knew.
"When did you... when did you arrive?" Patricia stammered. Martin's dark pupils loomed over her, gleaming with an inscrutable coldness. "You... you... when did you..."
"Who were you video chatting with just now? Why did they look exactly like Randy?"
Patricia's heart sank as she realized what had transpired. It appeared that Martin had discovered her secret.
