Chapter 974 Catching the Human Trafficker

The next day, Charles tagged along with Violet to Angela's for her therapy session, just like always.

Usually, it was Lassie who went with Violet, but after yesterday's drama, she was worried about Shirley and decided to stay home to look after her.

Once Violet was inside for her session, Carter turned to Charles and asked, "Did you manage to get a good look at the kidnapper?"

Charles pulled out his phone and showed the image he had put together the day before.

The face was kind and round, totally not what you'd expect from a kidnapper. It was hard to believe someone like that could be involved in something so sinister.

With Violet out of earshot, Charles didn't hold back and whispered, "Actually, it was Hannah who saved Shirley yesterday."

Carter's eyes widened in surprise. "Hannah?"

Charles nodded and gave him a quick rundown of what had happened.

After hearing the story, Carter didn't seem mad about being kept in the dark. Instead, he agreed, "You did the right thing. With Violet's current state, it's best she doesn't meet Hannah. Who knows what could happen. She's just starting to stabilize; we can't risk her getting upset again."

Charles added, "The kidnapper probably didn't think I'd figure out her appearance, so she wasn't careful. I've already tracked down their hideout using facial recognition. What do you think? We can nab them anytime."

Carter was impressed by how quickly Charles had worked and couldn't help but praise him, "You're really something! I actually like the idea of you being my son-in-law! It's a shame things didn't work out between you and Violet. I really thought you two would end up together."

Charles didn't know what to say, so he stayed quiet.

Even though Carter never said it outright, Charles understood what he meant.

Carter continued, "The Violet we have now isn't the same. These past seven years have changed her. If it weren't for the paternity test and her face, I'd doubt we found the right person."

This was the first time Carter had seriously talked about Violet with Charles.

Charles wasn't too surprised.

He had noticed the changes in Violet too. How could her father, who saw her every day, not notice?

As a dad, Carter felt guilty and heartbroken for Violet, so he had been putting up with it.

Charles sighed and tried to comfort him, "She's been through a lot these past seven years. It's normal for her to change."

Carter rubbed his face and said, "I just hope therapy helps her remember everything and she can go back to being her old self."

Charles didn't know how to comfort him, so he just patted his shoulder.

In his mind, even if Violet got her old memories back, she wouldn't be the same.

Someone who could hurt her own sister, with such a dark heart, couldn't just turn good again.

The Violet they had now was no longer the sweet, kind-hearted girl she used to be.

After Violet finished her therapy, Charles drove her home.

Even though he felt bad for Carter, he kept his suspicions to himself.

Once they caught those kidnappers, he'd let Carter handle the interrogation!

At the door, Violet held onto Charles's hand, looking reluctant. "Charles, Christmas is coming up. Why don't you spend it with us? Your parents aren't here, and you're all alone."

Charles didn't want to raise any alarms, so he kept his tone calm and said, "I'm not sure yet! If I decide to come, I'll let your dad know."

Violet looked at him and said, "Why don't you come in and chill for a bit? It's still early!"

Charles shook his head, "Nah, your dad and I have some stuff to take care of. It might take a while. The weather's been pretty bad lately, so try to stay in."

Violet, looking concerned, asked, "What do you and my dad need to do?"

Carter, not wanting her to worry, said, "You're still not fully recovered, so don't stress about our business. Just rest up. We'll handle it as quickly as we can."

Seeing they were serious and really had something to do, Violet didn't push further.

After yesterday's events, she was more cautious and didn't want to cause any trouble, afraid of upsetting Lassie and Carter.

Once Violet was settled, Carter and Charles headed out.

The kidnappers were caught easily since they were just small-time criminals without any serious backing.

Jennifer, the one who almost kidnapped Shirley, was among them.

When she found out who Carter was, Jennifer turned pale with fear.

"I'm sorry," Jennifer stammered. "I didn't plan to kidnap your daughter. Someone approached us and wanted to sell her to us, so I went there that day."

If she had known it would be this much trouble, she wouldn't have taken the job.

Carter's eyes narrowed dangerously, and he gritted his teeth. "Who dared to sell my daughter?"

Jennifer shook her head frantically. "I don't know! We only talked on the phone. I've never seen her! Usually, girls don't make much money, but she wanted $100,000! At first, we didn't want to take the job, thinking it was too risky. But she said she had connections with an illegal organization, and after kidnapping her, her organs could be sold. Just one heart could go for $100,000. We couldn't resist the money and agreed!"

Hearing this, Carter lost it. He lunged at Jennifer, grabbed her collar, and lifted her off the chair, punching her hard.

"Do you know she's only five years old? You monsters! I shouldn't have called the cops. I should've taken an eye for an eye and fed your organs to the dogs."

He couldn't believe they wanted to kidnap Shirley to sell her organs.

He usually couldn't even raise his voice at Shirley, and these people wanted to kill her and sell her organs.

Just thinking about it made his blood boil. He kicked Jennifer several times.

Jennifer cried out in pain, begging for mercy, "Let me go. I thought she was just an ordinary kid. I didn't know she was your daughter!"

Carter had never hit a woman before, but thinking about how close he came to losing Shirley, he couldn't control himself.

As he was about to kick her again, Charles stepped in. "Now's not the time to beat her! She's just a pawn. The real villain is the one who ordered the kidnapping."

Carter, barely holding it together, looked at Charles with red eyes. "Charles, you can find them, right? Your computer skills are top-notch. You can help me find that person, right?"

Charles nodded firmly. "Yeah, I can. No matter what, I'll track them down. I won't let anyone who tried to hurt Shirley get away with it."
