Chapter 646 Driving Patricia Away

Maximilian sent everyone to look for Kaleb.

When Patricia found him, he had just finished a call with his subordinates.

Impatiently, Patricia asked, "How is it? Any news?"

Maximilian shook his head. "He rarely goes to other places, usually just in the gazebo in the villa area playing chess with the old men. After recognizing you, he went to a few more places. So far, no one has found him."

Feeling guilty, he suddenly said, "It's all my fault! When he woke up, I already noticed his bad mood! I should have taken it seriously."

If he hadn't gone grabbing the food, Kaleb wouldn't have left.

Patricia comforted him, patting his shoulder. "It's not your fault. He intended to leave. Even if you stayed by his side day and night, he would still find a way to leave."

Maximilian sat on the sofa, leaning back wearily, rubbing his forehead with his index finger and thumb.

"I was wrong! I shouldn't have asked you to deceive Uncle! I searched for Margaret for over twenty years, without any clues! I thought I would never find them in this lifetime, but things turned out unexpectedly. Just after I found you pretending to be him, Joe found Margaret. What's even more coincidental is that they got into trouble! Uncle won't believe their deaths have nothing to do with the curse."

At this point, he suddenly froze.

It seemed like Patricia also had the same thought, and she hurriedly said, "Do you think Kaleb went to find Margaret?"

Maximilian immediately sat up straight, took out his phone, and called Joe.

Upon hearing about Kaleb's disappearance, Joe became anxious. "No wonder he suddenly called me, asking where Margaret's tombstone is. This Kaleb, he's always so stubborn."

Knowing they were on the right track, Maximilian asked urgently, "Where is Margaret's tombstone? He must be looking for her."

Joe immediately gave Maximilian the address.

After the call, Maximilian immediately drove Patricia to the destination.

Joe, fearing for Kaleb's safety, also instructed his driver to take him there.

For over twenty years, Margaret had been living in the Country D, never leaving the country. However, she resided in a very small, remote town, a four to five-hour drive from the Taylor Residence.

When Maximilian and Patricia arrived at the address Joe provided to find Margaret's tombstone, it was already dark. In the twilight, they could see a lonely figure sitting in front of a tombstone from a distance.

Even though they were far away, Patricia and Maximilian immediately recognized the person as the missing Kaleb.

The two exchanged a glance and walked towards him slowly.

Neither of them spoke, both following Kaleb's gaze to the tombstone.

There were no photos on the tombstone, only the words "Margaret's Grave." There was no birth date, only the date of death.

Next to Margaret's tombstone, there was another one without a photo. It read "Mike Taylor's Grave."

Like Margaret's tombstone, Mike's also lacked a birth date, only displaying the date of death.

Seeing the date of death on the tombstone, Maximilian felt guilty. "Kaleb, I didn't expect things to turn out like this! If I had known it would harm Margaret and your child, I would never have asked Ms. Watson to impersonate your daughter."

He never believed in curses.

That was why he asked Patricia to impersonate Kaleb's child.

Now, with this happening, he couldn't help but start to believe a little.

Kaleb touched the name on the tombstone.

His fingers traced the carvings slowly.

"I never had the chance to see Mike!"

He continued, "It's my fault. I let Margaret down back then, so I ended up like this today! I deserve it."

Patricia, feeling guilty, lowered her head. "Kaleb, I'm sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have deceived you for my own selfish reasons, I'm sorry..."

Compared to this morning, Kaleb was much calmer when facing Patricia again.

"I don't blame you anymore!" Kaleb said.

Upon hearing this, Patricia's face lit up, but before she could rejoice, Kaleb added, "But I can't pretend like nothing happened."

Patricia's expression immediately fell. "Kaleb."

Kaleb said expressionlessly, "Leave! Leave the Country D, I never want to see you again in my life."

Patricia's eyes welled up instantly.

She didn't know why.

He wasn't her biological father.

She only felt guilty towards him.

But when she heard those words, she inexplicably felt very sad.

Tears welled up in her eyes uncontrollably.

Taking a deep breath, Patricia fought back the tears. "I know I was wrong, I hurt you! I will leave here. I won't force you to save Martin anymore."

If Martin died, she would go with him.

She would never do such a thing again.

Her voice was filled with sorrow.

Kaleb hesitated for a moment, feeling a twinge of pity, but he also knew that her tears weren't because he asked her to leave, but out of guilt and self-blame after the lies were exposed.

Kaleb remained silent, turning his back to her.

Patricia knew she had no reason to stay any longer.

But she was still worried about Kaleb.

Seeing her concern, Maximilian handed her the car keys. "Don't worry, I'll take care of Kaleb here. You can drive my car back."

Patricia pushed his hand away. "No need, I'll find my own way back! You take Kaleb back in the car!"

Maximilian stubbornly handed her the car keys. "Joe said he's on his way here. I'll take Kaleb back with him. It's dark now, it's not safe for a girl like you to be outside alone. I would feel better if you drove back."

Patricia wanted to refuse, but then she heard Maximilian say, "You don't want Martin to worry, right? Drive back! You can return the keys to me tomorrow."

Thinking of Martin, Patricia hesitated for a moment, but ultimately took the car keys.

Before leaving, she couldn't help but glance at Kaleb.

Kaleb remained in the same position as before, seemingly unaware of her intentions.

Feeling uneasy, Patricia sniffed, tightly gripping the car keys, and turned to leave.

As soon as Patricia left, Maximilian erupted, "Kaleb, you're being too harsh! You can't blame her alone for this."

Kaleb tilted his head, looked at him with a hint of complaint, then shifted his gaze back to Margaret's tombstone.

He used silence to confront Maximilian.

Maximilian felt awkward, a deep sense of powerlessness washing over him.

How could he have thought Kaleb didn't blame him?

Kaleb was ignoring him.

Wasn't that blaming him?

Indeed, he had made a mistake! He even caused the deaths of Margaret and his brother.
