Chapter 214 Patricia in Danger

Patricia rubbed her temples, wondering what was wrong, when Hunter's teasing voice came from above.

"What's wrong? Not feeling well?"

Enduring the discomfort, Patricia got up from the ground, moving her limbs and said, "I don't know, maybe because it's winter, the cold from the ground has made me feel unwell. But it’s nothing, I'll be okay in a couple of days."

Hunter's eyes deepened with a meaningful tone. "Do you want to rest on the bed for a bit?"

Patricia shook her head. "There’s no need! I'm not that delicate."

Hunter pointed to the steaming meal on the bedside table. "Omis just brought this in, seeing you still asleep, I couldn't bear to wake you. She made you a vegetable salad, so make do with it!"

"It's fine, I can eat anything." Patricia freshened up quickly, eating as she inquired. "What about you? Have you eaten?"

"I’ve already eaten a while ago!" Patricia swiftly polished off the food.

After ensuring that Hunter was well fed, Patricia cleaned his wounds, disinfected them, and applied medicine, before feeding him his medication.

Though he had numerous burns, fortunately, they were treated quickly and not too deep; thus, they were healing nicely, with the surrounding skin starting to scab over.

After taking care of his injuries, Patricia finally asked, "What exactly happened during your days back in the States? Kidnapping and explosions? The outside world thinks you're dead, and certainly, Davis Sadie will seize the chance to take over power."

Hunter felt a warm sensation in his heart and gently rubbed her head, asking, "Are you concerned about me?"

Patricia, both amused and exasperated, pushed his hand away and said, "Of course, I'm concerned about you! Why else would I rush over such a long distance?"

A mist began to fill Hunter's eyes as they reddened. "Since my mother passed away, you are the only one who has cared about me. I never thought there would be anyone in the world who would care, who would worry whether I live or die."

Her heart tinged with emotion; Patricia teased him "Fool, how can there be no one who cares if you live or die? The elder members of the Miller family are also concerned about your wellbeing, they almost turned the whole country upside down. Although it’s for their own interests, at least it counts as concern, right?"

Hunter couldn't help but laugh at her comment. "That day at the hotel, my assistant Peter called to tell me Davis Sadie was secretly buying up scattered shares from the small shareholders of the Miller Group.”

“I hold thirty-five percent of the Miller Group's shares, while Davis Sadie has only five percent, and her daughter has ten percent. Combined, the two of them hold fifteen percent."

"If they succeed in acquiring all the scattered shares, and trick my father into selling his five percent, they would have thirty percent and become the second-largest shareholder of the Miller Group."

"Being the second-largest shareholder gives them enough influence to directly threaten my position. I rushed back that day to deal with the situation. I never imagined that Davis Sadie and her daughter would be so bold as to kidnap me! They wanted to force me to sign a share transfer agreement."

"I pretended to agree and escaped when they dropped their guard. Just as I got out of the warehouse, there was a huge explosion. Although I was lucky to survive, I sustained serious burns. Davis Sadie had people looking for me everywhere."

"Omis and I have a deep friendship; knowing that she had a wine cellar, I hid there. I intended to borrow her phone to call you. But as fate would have it, Davis Sadie knocked on the door looking for me, and then I passed out, until you came."

He purposely omitted certain details to elicit Patricia's sympathy, not revealing that from the kidnapping to the explosion, it was all a set-up, one of his own making. The explosion was not originally part of his plan.

But that day, coincidentally, he received a call from Charlotte, which made him change his plans on the fly, and deceive Patricia into coming over.

After hearing his explanation, Patricia suddenly saw the light. She finally understood why the call from Hunter had been abruptly cut off, and why there had been so much noise in the background.

"What are you planning to do next?” she asked. “If it really doesn't work out, you could come back with me! Even the Miller family's influence isn’t far-reaching enough to extend there. With your skills, finding a job in Country wouldn't be hard."

Hunter gently rubbed her head and smiled tenderly, “If I left, wouldn’t that just hand the Miller family over to Davis Sadie on a silver platter? Wouldn’t that play right into her hands?"

Patricia quickly asked, “Do you have a plan?”

The smile on Hunter's lips grew wider, “If they can't take me down, it's their bad luck! I'll recuperate for a couple more days, and when my wounds have healed a bit more, I'll go back and claim what she owes me, every single thing.”

Patricia immediately asked, “Do you need my help?”

Hunter burst out laughing, “You’d be better off staying here and waiting for my good news! What if Davis Sadie finds out you're my weakness and uses you to threaten me?"

Patricia still couldn't shake off her concern, “Are you sure you'll be okay?”

Hunter swore confidently, "Definitely! You have to believe in my abilities.”

Seeing his assurance, Patricia didn't say anything more. Hunter rested for a couple more days and, once his injuries were almost healed, he left. Before leaving, he made Patricia promise, again and again, to wait for him there.

After he left, Patricia wanted to call Charles to let him know she was safe but then remembered her phone was broken and dismissed the thought. Hunter was gone for three days and three nights with no news. Patricia couldn’t even check the news.

On the fourth day, there was finally a stir. Patricia thought Hunter had returned victorious and immediately ran outside.

“You’re finally back! Do you have any idea how worried I’ve been these past few days...”

Before she could finish, she saw a swollen figure approaching. Upon closer inspection, it was Davis Sadie. Behind her followed four hulking brutes, each one towering over Patricia by a head and a half.

With bloodshot eyes, Davis Sadie glared at Patricia with venomous hatred and gritted her teeth, "So it was you who saved that little bastard, daring to ruin my plans. Let’s see how I deal with you.”

Realizing something was wrong, Patricia turned to run. The four thugs behind Davis Sadie immediately charged forward, grabbing the back of Patricia's collar and hoisting her up in the air.

Her wallet fell out of her pocket as a result. Davis Sadie stepped in front of Patricia with a sneer, sizing her up from head to toe. She picked up the wallet from the ground, found the ID card inside, and upon seeing the information on it, her eyes lit up as though she had discovered something extraordinary.

"So, you're the Patricia, that little brat Hunter has been obsessing over, for years? Haha... Heaven must be watching, delivering you straight into my hands. That little mongrel Hunter is as good as dead this time."

Patricia's breath caught, "What do you plan to do?"

Davis Sadie arched his eyebrow,, "What am I going to do? Take back what I deserve, of course! You think you can steal my shares, and kick me out of the Miller Group? No chance. This time, I'll make sure that brat has no place to be buried."

With that, she gestured with a wave of her palm. The thugs, holding Patricia by the collar of her dress, started dragging her towards the door.

"Let me go, let me go..." Patricia fought back in a frenzy, kicking and punching, struggling incessantly.

Alas, she was no match for the burly men. In order not to attract attention, one of the thugs delivered a sharp karate chop to the back of her head.

Darkness swallowed her vision, and she lost consciousness completely, slumping over.
