Chapter 962 Violet's Vicious Revenge
After a couple of months of treatment, Violet was finally on the mend.
Carter had wrapped up things at work and brought Shirley, who was on winter break, to Country D to be with Violet during her treatment.
That day, Charles and Lassie had just brought Violet back home after her session.
As soon as they walked in, a tiny figure darted over and hugged Violet tightly.
Shirley exclaimed, "Violet, I finally get to see you again! I missed you so much!"
She was so happy she even nuzzled her head against Violet.
It was obvious she really liked Violet, even though they hadn't spent much time together.
Shirley's face was lit up with joy.
But unlike her, Violet's face showed no happiness. She seemed to be put off by Shirley's touch, and a hint of impatience flashed in her eyes.
Seeing the well-behaved and sensible Shirley, Lassie felt pleased and pretended to be angry, coughing twice. "You only miss Violet? What about me?"
Shirley immediately went to hug Lassie.
Even though she was only five, she was taller than most kids her age. She pressed her face against Lassie's chest and said sweetly, "I miss you all! I miss Daddy, Mommy, Violet, and Austin! I missed you all so much. Where's Austin? Why didn't he come with you?"
Lassie gently patted her back.
She had been so focused on Violet that she had neglected Shirley, and she felt really guilty about it.
Luckily, Shirley was understanding and didn't blame her at all. She was very considerate.
Lassie felt very comforted by this.
Lassie gently rubbed Shirley's head and said softly, "Austin went to Country H with the professor for an academic lecture. He'll be back in a few days."
Shirley pouted and said in a sweet voice, "But I miss Austin so much. I haven't seen him in a long time."
Lassie patiently coaxed, "When he comes back, I'll have him come see you right away, okay? In the meantime, Daddy, Mommy, and Violet will be with you."
Shirley was easy to coax.
To be precise, she had a very good temperament, never throwing tantrums, and was considerate of her parents, so she didn't dwell on the issue and nodded with a smile.
Violet watched the intimate interaction between Lassie and Shirley, her eyes cold and frightening.
After greeting everyone, Shirley walked over to Charles and said, "Charles, long time no see. I missed you too!"
Shirley was different from Violet.
Not only was she tall, but she was also very beautiful, perfectly inheriting all the good traits from her parents.
She had a round head, naturally wavy hair, eyes that radiated childlike purity, and a face that lit up with a smile, showing her white teeth, making her very endearing.
Her chubby face was soft to the touch, and her delicate pink lips made her look like a doll.
She didn't look anything like Violet.
The only similarity might be their lips.
But every time Charles saw her, he would think of Violet when she was young, especially her eyes.
Although they didn't look alike, their eyes were very similar, giving the same impression as young Violet—cute, obedient, sensible, and with a good temperament.
Everyone who met her couldn't help but like her.
Shirley had an outgoing personality and made friends easily, even with people she had just met.
Charles couldn't help but rub Shirley's head. "Really? How much did you miss me?"
Shirley made a big circle with her hands. "This much!"
Charles laughed heartily and satisfiedly. "It's my honor to be missed by you. Although this honor isn't mine alone."
He hadn't spent much time with Shirley.
But because of his affection for Violet and her resemblance to young Violet, Charles had always liked Shirley and treated her well.
They got along great.
Shirley always saw him as a big brother.
Shirley pouted and held Charles's hand. "If I only missed you, that wouldn't be fair to everyone else. So, I miss you all."
Charles felt warm inside hearing her words. "Alright! I know you're the fairest and wouldn't hurt anyone."
Shirley's eyes turned into crescents as she smiled.
Violet's gaze fell on the hands of Charles and Shirley, her eyes turning vicious, and she clenched her molars.
Shirley suddenly remembered something, let go of Charles's hand, and quickly ran back to her room. After a while, she came back with two gift boxes, handing one to Charles and one to Violet. "These are gifts I brought for you! I picked them out myself. See if you like them."
"You know how to pick gifts now. Let me see what you got me and if I like it." Charles expressed his surprise and opened the gift in front of everyone.
It was a simple raccoon keychain.
The raccoon's eyes were round and very cute, just like Shirley, making it very endearing.
Shirley asked expectantly, "Charles, do you like it?"
Charles attached the keychain to his key ring and smiled. "I like it very much! You have great taste!"
Hearing that he liked it, Shirley smiled even more happily and asked Violet expectantly, "Violet, do you like yours?"
Violet's gift was much larger than Charles's.
When she opened it, inside was a rabbit plush toy. The rabbit had long ears that drooped down, as long as its body, and its eyes were slyly looking sideways, giving an arrogant look.
Shirley loved the rabbit. She played with its ears and said, "This is the only one. I wanted to buy two, one for you and one for me, but the store only had this one. I thought you'd like it, so I gave it to you. Do you like it?"
Violet looked down at the rabbit in her hand, her eyes full of disdain.
Violet thought, 'What is this? So childish. Only young children will like such things.'
If no one else was around, she would have thrown it back at Shirley without hesitation.
But with Carter, Lassie, and Charles around, she forced a smile and said, "I like it very much. Thank you! I'll take good care of it."
Seeing that they both liked her gifts, Shirley smiled even more happily.
The next second, Violet, who had just said she liked it and would cherish it, casually tossed the plush toy onto the sofa and went to the kitchen to pour water for Charles.
Shirley looked at the rabbit which was now abandoned on the sofa, and her face fell.
Children were not good at hiding their emotions.
Seeing her upset, Charles placed his palm on her head and gently coaxed, "Violet knows your intentions. I'll make sure she puts it away properly later, okay?"
Shirley looked up at Charles, still unhappy. "Does Violet not like it?"
Charles smiled. "How could that be? She said she liked it and would cherish it! Don't overthink it, or Violet will be upset."
Shirley, being only five, quickly got over her emotions and smiled again after being coaxed by Charles.
Violet came out with tea and saw Charles' hand affectionately on Shirley's head. Her eyes turned cold, and as she walked over, she pretended to trip, spilling the scalding hot water on the back of Shirley's neck.
She had deliberately chosen a spot where the skin was exposed.
With clothes as protection, no matter how hot the water was, it wouldn't cause harm.
But the back of the neck had only a few scattered hairs, and a cup of scalding hot water would cause injury, even disfigurement.
Violet wanted to teach Shirley a lesson for daring to flirt with Charles.
'Serves her right.' Violet thought.
