Chapter 1028 Carter Discovers Austin's Secret

Fannie patted Charles on the shoulder.

"Charles, trust me! I have a strong feeling that Hannah will come back someday."

Charles didn't say anything more; he just held Patricia and cried.

The servant silently cleaned up the room.

Martin also treated Charles's wound, handed the medical kit to Fannie, stood up, walked to the window, pulled open the curtains, and then opened the window.

A gust of wind blew in, and the smell of alcohol in the room dissipated a lot.

"I believe Fannie! Hannah is an adult, as long as she remembers you, she will come back someday. Since that person has no ill intentions towards her, it's impossible to imprison her for life.

We'll keep looking on our end, don't lose hope. There will be a way."

The three of them stayed with Charles in the room for a long time.

They only left when Charles was exhausted and fell asleep.

Not feeling assured about Charles, Martin specifically had Randy come in to stay with Charles and not leave his side.

Two more months flew by, and the weather was getting hotter.

There was still no news about Hannah.

Austin accompanied his professor to Country H for an academic conference.

At night, he sat by the bed, looking at the sleeping Hannah, and couldn't help but reach out, carefully tracing her face with his fingers.

From now on, they could be together forever.

Hannah was destined to be his, and only his.

He would never allow anyone to take Hannah away from him.

At that moment, the door was pushed open from the outside, and Tina walked in. Seeing the way he looked at Hannah, her chest ached deeply.

"Was it worth all the trouble to bring her here? If you're discovered, you're finished."

"Worth it!" Austin answered without a moment's hesitation. "As long as I can be with Hannah, it's worth it."

Tina bit her lower lip, not saying anything, her eyes filled with sorrow.

Austin asked, "How is she doing?"

Tina replied, "I've erased all her memories of Charles. She now only knows that her name is Evelyn Ross, that her parents died when she was young, and that she is your fiancée."

Austin asked worriedly, "Are you sure she's completely forgotten about Charles?"

Tina assured, "I'm sure! But her feelings for Charles were too deep, so she occasionally dreams about him! I'll need to reinforce the memory wipe periodically."

Austin nodded in satisfaction, "Thank you for all your hard work."

No one knew he had a backup plan.

Charles thought that by having people watch him, he could find Hannah.

How ridiculous.

He knew every step of their search for Hannah, so how could he let Charles find her?

From now on, Hannah would live in Country H, and her name would be Evelyn, no longer Hannah.

Tina looked at Austin with deep affection, "It's nothing, really. I'd do anything for you!"

Austin's body stiffened slightly.

Then, he quickly regained his composure and said in a deep voice, "It's been over four months, Charles is still searching for her all over the country. I can't come here often! I still need you to take care of her for me."

Tina nodded, "I know, I'll take good care of her."

Austin added with concern, "Remember, she must not use a cell phone. I've removed the webcam from the computer, so she can use it and watch TV, but no cell phones. If she gets her hands on one, Charles will find out."

Tina nodded again.

"I know, you've told me before. I'll make sure she doesn't use a cell phone."

Austin looked at Hannah for a while longer, then reluctantly moved his gaze away. He stood up and placed his right hand on Tina's shoulder.

"Thank you. Without you, my plan wouldn't have gone so smoothly."

Tina looked at his hand on her shoulder, feeling the warmth of his palm through the thin fabric. Her heart seemed to warm up too, making everything she did feel meaningful.

The air around them grew thick with unspoken emotions.

"There's no need to be so formal between us," she said softly.

Austin nodded. "I can't stay long, I need to go back quickly!"

Tina hurriedly replied, "It's okay, go ahead! I'll take good care of her."

"Charles." As soon as she finished speaking, they heard Hannah murmuring Charles's name in her sleep.

Austin's eyes suddenly turned cold, and his expression visibly darkened.

Tina explained, "She calls out Charles's name almost every time she falls asleep, but that's just a subconscious habit. When she wakes up, she doesn't remember him at all."

Despite her explanation, Austin's eyes still couldn't hide his anger.

"I'm leaving now. Take good care of her. I'll come back to see her in three days."

With that, Austin left the room without looking back.

He didn't understand it. Whether she was Violet, Hannah, or now renamed Evelyn, she still liked Charles and couldn't forget him.

What was so good about Charles?

Hadn't he been good enough to her?

As soon as Austin stepped into the elevator, his phone rang in his pocket.

The call was from Carter.

Austin took a deep breath, adjusted his emotions, and answered the call, "Dad."

Carter asked, "Are you in Country H right now?"

Austin replied, "Yes! I'm here with my professor for an academic conference."

"Still at H University?"

"Yes!"

"When are you coming back to Country D?"

Austin slightly furrowed his brow, "Why are you suddenly asking these questions?"

Carter laughed, "What else could it be, of course, to visit you! I don't want to make a trip for nothing."

Austin thought Carter was planning to visit him in Country D, so he answered truthfully, "Probably in about two weeks! I should be back in Country D by the end of the month!"

"Alright! See you then."

After ending the call, Austin didn't think much about Carter's sudden phone call, put his phone back in his pocket, and walked out of the elevator.

Three days later.

Carter stood at the entrance of H University, took out his phone, and found the address Austin had sent him a long time ago.

This was the specific address where Austin had come for an academic conference at H University a year ago.

He had visited Austin here when he was on a business trip to Country H.

It was this place last time, so it should be the same this time, right?

Following the address, Carter asked students along the way and finally found the place.

He had deliberately not told Austin in advance, wanting to give him a surprise.

Recently, he had focused all his energy on Violet and had neglected Austin. This time, while on a business trip to Country H, he thought he would take the opportunity to visit Austin.

Just as he reached the entrance of the chemistry building, he saw Austin walking out with his professor and classmates.

Seeing them engrossed in conversation, he didn't want to disturb them and quietly followed behind.

At the school gate, Austin parted ways with them

Carter took out his phone and dialed Austin's number.

As Austin's phone rang, a taxi stopped at his feet.

He got into the taxi, closed the door, and then answered the call.

Carter also hailed a taxi to follow.

"Austin, where are you now? Are you busy?"

Austin calmly lied without batting an eye, "I'm with my professors right now! Do you need something?"

Carter's brow furrowed slightly.

"You're with your professors?"

"Yes! We're discussing a paper! I'll be back in Country D at the end of the month. If you can't wait, you can go back first. I'll visit you in Sunset Bay when I have time."

"Alright! Don't overwork yourself and make sure to get some rest."

"I will!"

After ending the call, Carter's expression turned a bit grim.

Austin had just parted ways with his professors and classmates, so why did he say he was with them?

Why didn't Austin tell him the truth?

Suspicious, Carter instructed the taxi driver to follow Austin's taxi.
