Chapter221 The change in Martin's attitude before and after.

Seeing that she remained silent, Martin showed her the door., "If this is what you wanted to discuss, talk, then it's done. Please leave. I have an international conference to attend shortly."

Patricia felt an icy chill course through her veins, her complexion turning deathly pale.

Indeed, her sixth sense hadn't been wrong.

There had been a monumental shift in Martin's attitude towards her.

Just as she had begun to be moved by him time and again, he was rejecting her once more.

A shroud of despair and sorrow enveloped Patricia, tears fillingwelling up in her eyes.

"Why?"

She wanted to ask him why he was treating her this way.

"There's no why. From the beginning, our marriage was a mistake. Ending it five years ago was the right thing to do. We shouldn't compound the error now." His voice was colder than his expression.

His voice was colder than his expression.

Patricia looked at him, searching his face for any sign that he was pretendinged to be cold.

But to her disappointment, there was nothing.

Martin stood up and began to gather his documents for the meeting, issuing another order for her to leave.

"Miss Watson, I have a meeting in ten minutes. Do you have anything else to say?"

His words implied she had ten minutes left.

Patricia felt as though she had been submerged in ice-cold water, completely chilled in ice-cold water. .

She stood up in a daze, her eyes red, her heart aching as if pierced by needles. PainThe

pain spread from her fingertips to her heart, making even breathing a heavy task.

It was as if the Martin who had taken care of her in the Los Angeles hotel was nothing but a dream. Now that the dream was over, it was time for her to return to reality.

Now that the dream was over, it was time for her to return to reality.

"Mr. Langley, I apologize for taking up your valuable time."

SheWith a hurried statement, she turned and fled the CEO's office, her departure as disheveled as her emotions.

Martin kept his head down, pretending to arrange his documents, only pausing when he heard the office door slam shut. Then, he stopped.

HeFor a moment, he slumped into his office chair, an unprecedented weariness on his face.

...

Patricia didn't know how she managed to leave the Langley Group.

At that moment, there was only one sensation she was aware of.

Pain, an endless tide of it, sweepting over her.

Every joint, every cell, every pore in her body ached.

This pain was even more intense than that which she had experienced five years ago.

Why did it have to be this way? If he didn't love her, why was he so kind, giving her hope, leading her to misunderstand?

If he didn't love her, why was he so kind to her, giving her hope, leading her to misunderstand?

If he didn't love her, why did he kiss her? Save her time and again? And personally, say he wanted to reconcile with her?

Why?

What was the reason?

Patricia racked her brain but couldn't understand.

Suddenly, a severe headache struck.

It felt as if someone was drilling into her skull, the pain almost unbearable.

She crouched down, clutching her head tightly, as if this could somehow alleviate the agony.

Passersby, seeing her distress, couldn't help but express their concern.: "Ma'am, are you alright? Do you feel unwell? Should we take you to the hospital?"

"Right, do you need to go to the hospital? You look very uncomfortable."

"There's a hospital right across the street. Why don't you go check it out? It's very close."

Patricia didn't want to be gawked at like a spectacle. She mustered her strength, stood up, hailed a taxi, and returnedwent straight back to Riverside Apartments.

Once home, she swallowed some cold and anti-inflammatory medicine and lay down on the bed, hoping to sleep off the pain.

Sadly, the medicine didn't kick in for a while, and she curled up under the covers, completely isolating herself.

As time ticked away, she lay there for an entire day, falling into a deep sleep only as night fell and her cold had yet to abate.

Perhaps it was the overthinking that led her to be haunted by nightmares as soon as she fell asleep.

In the dream,... d

Darkness surrounded her, so thick she couldn't see her own hands.

Martin was gone.

Charles, Randy, Fannie—all gone.

She ran desperately in the dark, searching for them.

"Martin! ..."

"Charles! ..."

"Randy! ..."

"Fannie! ..."

"Where are you? Don't scare me!"..."

She shouted until her voice was hoarse. Finally, two figures appeared ahead.

She ran towards them joyfully, only to find that they were Martin and Debbie.

They were holding hands, with Debbie leaneding into Martin's embrace; they held hands, Debbie's , her face beaming with happiness.

Martin looked at her indulgently, as if she was his entire world.

Silence enveloped her. Patricia

She could hear the sound of her heart- shattering.

"You... you..."

Debbie kissed Martin's face and looked at her triumphantly.: "Patricia, I told you before, you're no match for me. Martin has always liked me. You've been my loser from the start, my loser... haha..."

Debbie's hideous laughter echoed to the skies, reverberating in Patricia's ears as tears flowed like a freshly tapped spring.

Just when she was heartbroken, Charles, Randy, and Fannie slowly emerged from the darkness when she was heartbroken. .

It was like seeing a bit of light in the dark. She ran towards them.

Unfortunately, they hid behind Debbie, looking at her with guarded disgust.

Debbie protected them behind her, laughing even more triumphantly, more wildly.:

"Don't you understand? Your men, children, I'll take your man and kidsthem all away. Everything is mine..."

"Ah..."

Patricia could no longer bear the blow, letting out an agonized scream and rushing towards Debbie, intendingt on a mutual destruction.

Sadly, just as she took a step, the ground in front of her collapsed, her feet suddenly found nothing but air, and she plummeted down.

Despair, sorrow, anger, and unwillingness engulfed her. She

Unfortunately, she was powerless, only able to watch herself fall into the abyss.

Just when she thought she'd shatter into pieces, a jarring ringtone from a cell phone pulled her out of the nightmare.

She reached out from under the covers, found her phone, squinted, and brought it to her ear.

"Hello!"

Her voice was hoarse from the cold and, heavy with nasal congestion.

The piercing pain from the dream lingered, refusing to leave her heart.

Hunter's concerned voice came through the phone.

"Patricia, what happened to your voice? Is the cold really that bad?"

Patricia, drained of energy, spoke languidly.

"The fever's gone. Just a bit of a stuffy nose. I'll be fine in a few days! Don't worry!"

Hunter advised, "Why didn't you stay in Los Angeles a few more days and, wait to get better before returning?"

"I was bored staying there alone. Besides, I've been out for a while. I miss Charles and the others, so I returnedcame back with Martin."

Mentioning Martin caused her to teartorn up.

Hunter didn't pry further., reminding her: "Then rest well these next few days. There are some things to handle with the Miller Group. Once they're sorted, I'll come to see you."

"Mhm!"

Patricia responded faintly, not showing much excitement.

After ending the call, Patricia prepared to sleep some more.

Suddenly, the door to her room was pushed open, and with a 'click', the light was abruptly turned on.

Jade threw back the covers, exclaiming, "'You've been here all along!" The house was pitch dark; I thought you weren't home! What's wrong with you? Why have you been holed up in your room? Are you feeling unwell?"

The sudden brightness stabbed at Patricia's eyes.

She covered her eyes in discomfort.

"It's nothing. TheJust that the cold hasn't completely cleared up, so I wanted to rest a bit more."

Jade reached out to feel her forehead, relieved to find it normal.: "Then rest well. I'll bring dinner to you later, and tonight, I'll sleep here with the kids."

"Thank you!"

"No need to thank me."!"

Jade tucked her in again, turned off the room light, leaving only a dim lamp for illumination, and then left the room.

Patricia stared at the empty bedroom, thought of Martin's indifference, and felt as if her heart had been hollowed out, a warmth rising in her eyes as tears silently slid down her cheeks....
