Chapter 796 Acting
Austin turned back to the woman and asked, "What's next?"
She smiled eerily and said, "Just wait a bit longer."
Austin frowned, "Will Violet be okay?"
"Injuries are inevitable for realism, but my people know their limits," she replied.
Austin got furious. He grabbed her collar and lifted her off the ground, "I agreed, but you can't harm Violet. Not a single hair."
She stayed calm, "To achieve great things, you can't be emotional."
"I don't care. If you harm her, I'll kill you. Call your people now and tell them not to touch Violet," Austin demanded.
"Austin, listen..."
He threw her to the ground, "Call them now!"
She stood up, dusted herself off, and made the call, "Do not harm Violet."
"But you said to rough her up," the man on the other end replied.
"My son cares for her. Do not harm her," she insisted.
The man agreed, and she put away her phone. She tried to take Austin's hand, but he pulled away.
"You need to make sure Violet breaks with Charles completely," she reminded him.
"You're right. She must forget Charles," Austin agreed.
The woman smiled, "Exactly. Now, pretend to search for her. After an hour, call Carter and say you were too worried to think straight."
Austin hesitated. "Should I trust you?"
She reached out to touch his face, but he turned away. She forced her hand on his face, "You're my son. I left you at the Moore family's doorstep to protect you. Now you're Carter's son, and things will be easier."
Austin frowned, "What things?"
Memories of their first meeting and her words flashed in his mind, and his expression changed.
She had claimed Martin, Carter, and Ryan killed his father and placed him in the Moore family for revenge. What a joke. For a father he never met, he was supposed to betray Carter, who raised him like his own son? No way. Plus, it was just her word against everything he knew.
Austin scoffed internally but kept quiet. Violet's safety was at stake.
"I'll leave now. Follow my instructions. We'll stay in touch," she said, ready to go.
Austin grabbed her, "How will we stay in touch?"
She smiled oddly, "I have your number."
Austin broke into a cold sweat. How long had she been stalking him?
"But I don't have your contact info. Give it to me," he demanded.
She dialed a number, and his phone rang, "This is my number. Contact me with it," she said and walked away.
Austin memorized the number and deleted the call record. Then he ran in the direction the van had taken Violet, shouting her name.
After an hour of searching, he called Carter, "Carter, Violet's been kidnapped," he said, his voice shaking.
Carter was shocked, "What? Kidnapped?"
Austin explained, "We finished evening classes. I went to buy water, and Violet went to the parking lot. In that short time, she was taken. I tried to save her, but there were too many of them. They threw her into a van, and I couldn't catch up. I'm sorry, Carter. I failed to protect her."
"Don't blame yourself. When and where exactly did this happen?" Carter asked.
"Around ten, at the parking lot entrance. It was dark, and I couldn't see their faces," Austin replied.
"Do you remember the license plate?" Carter asked.
"I couldn't see it clearly," Austin said.
"Don't panic. I'll bring the police. Violet will be fine. Go home. I'll handle this," Carter assured him.
"No, I must find her. If I can't, I won't come back," Austin insisted and hung up.
