Chapter 950 Go Find Hannah
Just when Charles was about to lose it, his phone buzzed again.
Yep, it was Violet. Again.
He was ready to hit decline, but Stella chimed in softly, "You better pick up! What if she does something crazy 'cause you didn't answer? Hannah's already left heartbroken. If Violet does something drastic, you're screwed."
Charles' hand froze mid-air.
After a beat, he answered, "What now?"
Violet's voice was all shaky, "Charles, where are you? Why aren't you here yet? I'm freaking out!"
"Aren't Carter and Lassie with you?" Charles sounded a bit annoyed.
Violet's voice was all whiny, "I don't care about them! I just want you. Only you make me feel safe."
Charles rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"No, I can't come right now. Carter and Lassie will stay with you. I'll come by when I can."
He never thought things would get this messy.
His usually sharp mind was now a tangled mess.
Violet kept sniffling.
"When will you be done?" Her voice was full of fear.
Charles tried to be patient, "I don't know. I'll come when I can. Listen to Dr. Perez and follow her plan. I want to see some progress next time we meet."
Violet latched onto his words, panicking, "Will it be a long time? I miss you. I don't want to wait."
Charles was running out of patience.
Hannah was missing, and Violet was clinging to him.
He felt overwhelmed.
But Violet was a patient, so he had to be gentle.
"No, just a few days. It won't be long. Be good."
Because of her illness, Violet was extra stubborn. Charles had to coax her for a long time before she finally calmed down.
Eventually, she handed the phone to Carter.
Charles asked, "Carter, what did Angela say? Can she help Violet?"
If she could, all these problems would be solved.
Carter sighed in relief, "Angela said she can, but it'll take time. Violet needs daily therapy. We might have to stay here for a while."
"Stay here?" Charles panicked. "What about Shirley?"
Shirley was Carter and Lassie's daughter, only five and in kindergarten.
Carter said, "Lassie will stay, and I'll go back first. When Shirley's on winter break, we'll come over."
He paused, "Looks like we'll be here a while. Staying in a hotel isn't ideal. I'm thinking about buying a house."
Charles sighed, "No need. I have plenty of empty houses. I'll get one ready for you. Stay as long as you need, and we'll figure it out after Violet's treatment."
Right now, nothing mattered more than Violet's health.
Carter didn't argue.
Given their situation, there was no need for formalities. If Charles could help, he would.
Charles said, "It's late. I got stuff to handle. Crash at the hotel tonight, and I'll have someone take you over tomorrow."
Carter quickly replied, "No problem. You do your thing. Don't worry about us!"
"Alright!" After a pause, Charles added, "I probably won't have time to see Violet in the next few days. Keep an eye on her, make sure she doesn't hurt herself again."
Carter sighed deeply, "I know! Sorry for the trouble! I don't know why things turned out this way."
Charles could only offer some comfort, "It's okay! Everything will be fine!"
After hanging up, Charles focused all his energy on finding Hannah.
But in a city this big, there were no clues at all.
No records of Hannah at the airport, and she hadn't gone back home either.
Stella paced back and forth, scratching her head. "What now? We have no leads! It's been a day, and we still don't know where Hannah is."
Charles bought a pack of smokes from the campus store, lit one, and took a deep drag to calm his nerves.
Stella stared at him, surprised. "Charles, since when do you smoke?"
Charles ignored her and asked, "Think carefully, where else do you and Hannah usually hang out?"
People tend to stick to familiar places, especially when they're upset. They don't want to deal with finding new spots to eat or stay. So they usually go to places they know.
Stella racked her brain. "No! We've checked all our usual spots, and we didn't find her! Even if we missed something, our friends would've noticed."
Charles pressed, "Ever traveled together?"
"No!" Stella shook her head. "Hannah's family isn't well-off. She works part-time whenever she can. I've asked her out, but she doesn't want to spend the money. She doesn't want me to pay for her either, so we usually just hang out nearby and grab something to eat."
Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "She must be on that street we often go to! Yesterday, when she found out about your thing with Violet, she was upset and dragged me there to eat. She might be there."
Before she could finish, Charles grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the parking lot. Following Stella's directions, they found the street she mentioned.
The street was packed, especially at night.
Standing at the entrance, Charles frowned.
"She can't be here! She's in a bad mood, and this place is too crowded and noisy. She wouldn't come here."
When people are upset, they usually want to be alone in a quiet place, not in a noisy crowd.
Stella scratched her head. "You're right! But where else could Hannah be? We've checked everywhere. The only place left is the resort at Crystal Blue Lake..."
She stopped mid-sentence.
"Yes, Crystal Blue Lake, the resort. Hannah must be there." She turned to tell Charles, but he was already gone.
